Not much to get, really. It's just that this chick has a skewed view of what "feminism" is, and generally speaking Betty Friedan has a more accurate assessment of the situation even though the book is forty or fifty years old or whatever. I'm just suggesting that you can't call yourself a feminist if you're still crying emo tears, therefore you can't claim to be tearing it down on account of a rape that you haven't the balls to deal with. As someone said on her post, "grow a pair of hairy ones" or whatever it was.

I didn't see the word rape on her post anywhere. Funny, that. I didn't see her claim to be a feminist, either. Exact opposite actually. It was a pretty crappy post, but you ladies are reading too much into it, methinks.
I think you're just having a bit of fun with an easy target, using her misappropriation of the word "feminism" as an excuse to do so. Feminism isn't about seeing a person that's miserable and batting her about like a mouse that you're about to kill, either, you know.
I don't care if people want to chuck shit at weaklings around here, maintain the pecking order, etc, but at least be honest about what you are doing. Don't try to operate under some guise of defending feminism when you are really just taking the piss out of her.
Were you even around when all that shit with lojope was going on, anyway? I wasn't and don't pretend to know anything about it. How can you even have an opinion?

That was me. I didn't want to bite her head off but women like her really do feminism a diservce.
Ultimately one of the tenants of true feminism, once you strip the rhetoric away, is that women have a right to control their own destiny.
When you assume the role of a victim, you give away your power and your control. Yes, rape is a horrible thing. I've talked to women who have been raped and it's terrible to see what rape does to their psyche. But it is possible to heal and become stronger for it.
If someone jepordizes their emotional health because they continue to allow another person to have control over them, they'll forever be locked into the victim/abuser relationship.
Also, to completely reject all gender roles as a matter of principal is not what true feminism is about.
Women ARE different than men. This is not to say that women are inferior to men. An orange is very different from an apple but the orange is not inferior either.
The feminist movement did need to happen. The problem became that the movement, like so many others, became extreme and alienated men and women alike. Nowadays, the word feminism and feminist has taken on a negative connotation.

It's funny that it's taken this long for someone to accuse me of being an alter. I'm really not. I'm just a long time lurker and a newbie with no particular wit or talent. I find this site entertaining myself, that's about it. I'm not about to post personal information, but I have said before that I live in Southern California and that I am a registered nurse.
