I remember when I first met you. I had wanted to find someone just like you for years and had almost given up the search when you fell into my lap. Your big brown eyes. Your black hair and that little patch of white on the end of your tail. You were my first dog. You were my first love.
I remember when I brought you home, Nichole thought I was spending too much time with you and not enough with her. But she couldn't understand. She could never know the connection between a boy and his dog. I could just hold your little warm puppy body and fall into you like you were holding me. You could warm me on the coldest day. You were my dog.
You weren't very bright. You didn't sit down. You didn't roll over. You didn't lay down. You didn't stay off the couch. You never stopped chewing those shoes. Your bark could split an atom. Your breath was enough to make James Bond stutter. You were fast enough to run away when I wanted you to come home, yet slow enough to take 7 minutes to cross an entire queen size bed when I yelled at you to "get off my damn pillow".
Every time there was a knock at the door, you were there, ready to protect me. Ready to die for me. Without a moment's hesitation, you would be between me and whomever was at the door. And as soon as you knew it was someone familiar, there was no hesitation in burying your nose in whatever it could reach.
I remember with the time you nearly killed yourself in my car window.
I remember the time you nearly burned yourself to death chasing that rabbit.
I remember when you jumped over the rail only to realize it was the rail to the stairs, and an 8 foot drop.
That time you locked my keys in my car while it was running. Absolutely entertaining.
I remember you digging through the gun cabinet and eating all those bullets.
I remember you eating that cat.
But you have to wake up from every dream. All good things have to come to an end. And something else that signifies the finality of stuff...
My dog is gone. He was taken from me Monday, October 29, 2007. And along with it, a piece of myself.
This one time I saw a movie called "All dogs go to Heaven." I hope it's true. I hope you spend the rest of eternity digging up bones with other dogs who sound like Dom DeLuise. I hope there are a million different butts a day to sniff. I hope there are a million stumps to pee on, and fields as long as you can run. Rabbits to hunt. Birds to catch, and roads to cross without the fear of ever getting hit.
Goodbye, old friend.

FUCK YOU IN THE ASS FOR POSTING THIS!!!! :) :)
We have lost two dogs in the last three years, and the 16 year-old Border Collie is about to go.
Luckily, we have a four year-old Australian Shepard/Malamute and an eleven month-old Border Collie.
Losing a dog is right up there with losing a child, at least to me and my wife.
Get another dog and smother it with affection. You won't regret it. . .

I clicked on this post expecting a hilarious Drake ancedote involving a dog.
Gotta admit man, this kind of bummed me out.
Sorry about your dog, though it sounds like he had a good run.
On a totally relevant sidenote, I believe I own that exact same toaster.

There's no connection in the world like a man and his dog.
It trancends the connection between a man and his family.
A really good dog is worth more than your son. I have three dogs, they'd all die for me and I for them I think.

More hugs are always better.
I welcome and distrubute them rather freely, in fact.
Doesn't change the fact that I don't feel I could 'use' more.
ergo: you are wrong. Yet, even in your wrongness you are right.
So nice work, eh.

That was a really dramatic reaction to my opinion on pets, which I'm entitled to have. Does the fact that I don't kiss everyone's ass make me a miserable person?
---
It's only as dramatic as you are willing to make it there princess. I assure you they are little more than just words on the page.
You are absolutely entitled to be a cunt - and lets face it sister, you rock that shit out.
I'd suggest the fact yer a miserable person makes you a miserable person. Shame that you never learned that being thoughtful and nice to strangers doesn't necessarily equate to "kissing ass".
You and iddqd should get a room.

I'll never understand why people spend money to feed and house animals. You have to pick up their shit, they tear up your belongings, and what do they provide for you? Their "love" is just a shallow dependence on you for the food you provide.
---
Duh,
Because it makes them happy, silly. I don't particularly like pets myself - but Pebbles is pretty fucking cute and I know my best friend loves that little yappy dog.
You seem to have desperately damaged little soul there princess. Seems to me you have some healing to do away from this nasty little shit hole. I truly dig that your hobby is coming here and unloading your misery on the collection of nerds around here.
Heck, you really did seem fairly enjoyable most of the time - for an uppity angry wee bitch n' all - but showing up here and acting like such a detached, thoughtless cunt on post about a guy losing his dog?
really?
you = FAIL
I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest you probably could've used a few more hugs in your life.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear. I miss my dalmatian, Casey, too..this brings back memories. RIP, boy.
