Yes, I realize this movie just came out. The only reason why I'm putting it under my BFTG series is because:
a) The movie's reception was less than enthusiastic after its release
2) Nobody really talks about it because it's considered "really gay" to talk about musicals over a few rounds of beer and anal sex
brown) The entire soundtrack was covers of Beatles songs, and as we all know, the Beatles died when Ringo Starr decided to star in "Caveman".
In any case, I'll give you the lowdown on the plot by stealing directly from http://www.imdb.com:
OVERVIEW:A dock worker Jude travels to America in the 1960s to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy. When her brother Max is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism.
To be perfectly frank, I really enjoyed two-thirds of this movie. As the story progressed, we could see the changes in each character as they went from innocent kids, to a corrupted youth, to disillusioned adults.
What was nice about this movie were all of the "HOLY SHIT!!" moments.
HOLY SHIT!!! THAT'S JOE COCKER PLAYING A PIMP!!
HOLY SHIT!!! THAT'S BONO PLAYING A DRUGGED OUT HIPPIE!!
HOLY SHIT!!! THAT'S EDDIE IZZARD ON A BICYCLE!!
HOLY SHIT!!! THAT'S SALMA HAYEK IN A NURSE'S OUTFIT!!
HOLY SHIT!!! THAT'S ETS MAKING A BOMB!!
Yes, Bono was in this movie, and I daresay he was pretty good, not with just his acting but his rendition of "I Am The Walrus". Unfortunately, it was at this moment where the movie itself took a turn for the gay and I had NO fucking clue what was going on.
This is the one-third of the movie I could care less about. Everybody was drugged out, there were a bunch of blue people, and I felt high just watching it.
After this point, the movie picked up again and completely rocked my face off.
The music fit the story perfectly, and I really enjoyed myself watching it. The ending wasn't long and drawn out either (*cough* Lord Of The Rings *cough*), so I was pleased with just about everything except for that really fucking weird one-third of the movie.
PLOT: 9/10
EFFECTS: 8/10
MUSIC: 10/10
Eddie-Izzard-On-A-Flying-Bicycle Bonus: +3
OVERALL: 10/10
Watch it for the Beatles' sake.

Watching musicals don't automatically make you gay. PERFORMING in them does.

If I didn't like you, I'd punch your face off for this post. As it is, I have to subtract an additional point form a rather run-of-the-mill "I've seen better (-1)" because you didn't at least include a picture of Selma Hayek in a sexy nurse outfit.

Sweet review.
I think I might just indulge. Which makes me alarmingly gay.
I can't even wait. WEEEE!

The only thing worse than this movie is this review.
That's not fair!
They're both equally horrible.

Fixed.
Bono is a douche and U2 sucks.
Seems like an interesting movie, but I'm not really one for musicals (esp. where everyone gets drugged out and it turns in to some weird drug-manifested artsy shit). You seem to give it a pretty solid review. However you like the Beatles, where as I hate the Beatles, so I probably wouldn't enjoy it much. If it's ever on TV perhaps I might give it a chance. Eddie Izzard and Joe Cocker are pretty awesome, and Selma Hayek is hot. So for that I'd give it a shot.
