The phone rang early in the morning. "I'm coming to pick you up," he said. She consented. That was it.
When his headlights flashed up the driveway, she was ready to go with a purse and a coat. She didn't wait for him to come to the door.
He didn't smile when she got into the car. He rarely showed emotion with facial expressions; you had to guess what he was feeling by watching his eyes. They were wet and he was staring. To her, it meant that he had missed her.
They drove on the empty highway until skyscrapers became trees and trees became dust. The sun rose, and people with plans passed by on the way to their places to go. The sun set, and they pulled over and slept in the backseat.
He gave her no clues as to where they were going, if he even knew. The only hints were a suitcase in the back and a tank full of gas. She could have asked a hundred questions. How long will we be gone? Should I have packed a bag? Do you have enough cash? It's not that she didn't wonder; it just didn't matter.
What mattered was that wherever they were going, they were going there together, and whatever was about to happen, she would be beside him while it happened. The reason was irrelevant, as long as it was theirs.

No thanks, I've had my share of emotionally fucked up men that only want to think about themselves. It would be nice to have a relationship with someone who is capable of emoting like a human.
It's about loyalty and connection--a story about a woman who is so dedicated to this guy that she's willing to be next to him through whatever, and the "who, what, where, when, why?" doesn't matter.
