Ok, I'm gonna tell you all about the lead up to, and what its like on the field, from a players point of view.
Scene:- Friday night. 7:00pm Home, just out of the shower getting ready
I stand in my room, with my large black bag wide open, some things allready placed in there. My football boots, my towel, my shorts.. I have some calm music on my stereo, playing quietly, I walk back and forth around my room, gathering things for the game..
I grab electrical tape, to tape over my laces, my lycra shorts which I wear under my uniform shorts, to eliminate chafing. My discman, and cds to listen to on the way to the venue. Once my bag is packed, My ride is usually there, one of my school friends, who drives me to training and the games, he also plays in my team
Scene:- Friday night. 7:30pm Road, driving to football field
We have five guys in the car, laughing, just making jokes and shit like that, on the way to the ground, talking about the game, giving each other pointers, what we need to excel in. I usually sit quietly in the front, with my discman on, looking out the window blankly.
I like to arrive at my games blank, completley clear of mind, so I can get on the field and play as hard as I can, and focus completley on the game.
Scene:- Friday night. 8:00pm Oppositions home ground.
We get out of the car, all wearing a team polo shirt, all carrying our bags. I have my discman in the front pocket of my bag, my ears filled with music, as I make my way to the field.
We stand near the dressing rooms (locker room) and watch the game that is being played. It is usually it is a younger team. My team arrives at different times, and congregates in the one place, standing around, talking, laughing. This is where the adrenaline first begins to pump through my body.
Scene:- Friday night. 8:15pm Dressing room
The coach calls the team into the large room, to get ready. The concrete walls echo our laughs or war cries, loudly booming to the outside. Everyone takes a seat on the benches around the walls of the dressing shed. The adrenaline is kicking, its cold but I cant feel it, Im completley focused and clear minded. I calmly take my shoes off, change into my football jersey and shorts.
I stand up and lean against the padded bench in the middle of the room, near the end of the line for people to be strapped before the game, I look around the room and see my team mates get shoulders strapped, ankles strapped, back massages, people warming up by jogging on the spot, people cracking necks, warming up shoulders or punching the bag hanging in the corner. I get to the bench, and sit up, as our physio straps my ankle carefully..
I finish putting my football boots on, socks up, laces taped down, socks taped up,my jersey neatly tucked into my shorts which are tied taughtly around my waist. My mouthgaurd is tucked into the overturned top of my sock, as I join the line of football players walking out of the dressing room.
Scene :- Friday night. 8:30pm Warmup oval
The team walks over to the warmup oval, which is covered in fog, the cold air freezing us, untill we drop our bags and start doing warmup exercises (sp?) When we finish our warmup, we line up on the sideline, at half way, studying our opposition on the other side of the field, we jog onto the field in single file, meeting at the kick off area, eyeing off our corresponding opposition player.. This is a test against this man. A physical test, survival of the fittest.
Scene :- Friday night. 9:00pm Field.
We stand face to face against the opposition, everyones adreneline is kicking. The two captains stand, and talk to the referee, who holds a coin ready to flip. Our captain calls heads, we lose the flip. We have to kick off, and we all line up, across the field, ready to chase the ball and tackle whoever happens to catch it.
My heart goes crazy as the referee blows his whistle, and signifies the start of the game. The ball flies through the air, and is caught by a member of the opposition, who passes it to a bigger player, who runs as hard as he can, trying to bust through our defence. It doesnt work. He is tackled hard, and put to the ground. The play continues, untill half time, when the coach tells us what is going wrong, what needs to be done, general coach stuff, we go back onto the field, and continue play once more.
There is a few moments in the game when time is stopped, because of an injury, and a player needs to be assisted off the field.
I thought Id keep this post short, and not rave on about every detail in the game. The games last for 80 minutes... And a lot of shit happens in the games.
The game ends, the team grabs bags, and walks to the dressing room, the coach will either praise us, or tell us what we have done wrong. Depending on whether we have won or lost the game.
Thanks for reading.

I think League, AFL & Union are about as tough on each other, but you need to be burly to play both League and Union, extremely fit and tall to play AFL.

Yeah .. A.F.L is a LOT different.. bigger rounder field.. less rules.. more kicking..
Rugby League is more pain, more blood, and more fun. ... Oh and you dont need to be as fit to play league

(+2) for violent contact sport.
What's worse though, this or Australian Football? Also, excuse my ignorance, but what are the differences as I have never watched a game of rugby, while A.F I have?

Rugby is a cool game. I played a little bit while I was in Australia. It wasn't the real stuff though.

This is great work Dooz. How big are you, height and weight?
I love hearing the word cunt in any accent save American.
Scottish is probably my favorite to hear it in.
