What? It's a legitimate question. No, I'm not trying to pry or spark a heated political debate. I just don't think enough people are actually aware of who they want to vote for. I have no doubt that you know exactly where you stand on the issues, but sometimes it's hard to see through the layers of bullshit and know where each candidate stands on those issues.
And frankly speaking, it's HARD to just get a straight answer. I don't have time to watch hours of political debates and public addresses. I don't have time to check every candidate's website hoping to find a mission statement categorically organized into key topics. Hell, that won't usually appear in writing anywhere anyway. Presidential candidates don't want to advertise themselves out of a Flip Flop card, right?
So what do you do? Well, try this on for size:
http://www.wqad.com/Global/link.asp?L=259460
"Answer the 11 questions below to find out which candidates are most aligned with your views and opinions. You may skip questions if you do not want them factored into the results. This quiz is not meant to pick your candidate for you. It is designed to inform the public of the various stances candidates make."
It's not perfect, but it gives you a starting point. By all means, I'm not telling you to take this quiz and then just vote for whomever it spits out. However, if you were planning to vote for someone because they were pro-choice and then find out that they've spoken at length in the news about their undying passion for the pro-life movement, at least you know you need to do some more homework.
Fuck party affiliation and whatnot. Just keep an open mind, fill out the questions honestly, do some more research, and vote for what matters to you. I thought I knew who I wanted to vote for and then found out that candidate is damn near retarded. Whatever. Just don't be among the mouth-breathing, ignorant floaters that are going to vote for someone solely because of their sex, race, or party affiliation...or even worse...because a fucking celebrity told you to.

I had written a long spiel about why exactly I wasn't going to vote, and just left it sitting on my screen while I went home to enjoy corn-dogs.
While I was away, I thought about it more, and I think one of the problems with apathy toward voting is due to information overload, much of which is pure BS.
I would like to cast my token vote, but where do I find generally unbiased information about the candidates, that is fairly clear-cut and straightforward?
Does this place even exist?
Keeping in mind that I'm likely to shut out the window if if feels like political mudslinging, does anyone have any recommendations?
The corndogs had cheese inside them and were delicious.

---
Of course it would! Unfortunately it would require effort, coordination, transparency and all kinds of seemingly impossible concepts and big words that cause people's brains to shut off.
You have clearly demonstrated the unwillingness for some people to proactively talk about change - even if they might agree on the principle, motivation and all the facts presented - sometimes its way more fun to be the devil's advocate and argue endlessly over minutia.
I have every confidence it will happen, though. I'll be sure to email you when it's on.

well since the USA has rampant anti-intellectualism similar to Soviet Russia, China, Iran and generic thirld world nations (i'm not making that up), it is no wonder the retards on radio shows have so much importance.

And frankly speaking, it's HARD to just get a straight answer.
----------------------------------------
I think that's what they're counting on. I might not vote at all, but if I do it will be whoever is the least retarded and greedy.
It doesn't really matter either way, because politicians in general are all untrustworthy. Unfortunately, there is a need for governance, just as their is a need for law and order. (though the laws may be unjust/debatable)
I could say much more, but I doubt anyone wants to hear it, and it really just boils down to picking the turd that stinks the least.
That last sentence read very foul in my mind, just like politics.

Rudy Giuliani came to speak at my school. As he was leaving I stood in front of the door and more or less demanded a photo, and dammit, I got that photo. I was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a newspaper with the headline "President Shot Dead." Underneath that it says "Point, take aim, and liberate." I'm so punk.

It's so bad that I heard something on the radio a couple of days saying there are rumors Obama is a "closet Muslim". The only thing worse than a ridiculous transparent ploy to turn predominantly conservative Christian voters away from Obama is that hey were talking about being Muslim like it was the equivalent of being a recovering meth addict.

my vote, even though it is probably a toss in the garbage, has been for obama for a while now. my views line up with his on the things that matter more to me. i've met him and worked with him a number of times from when he was in the illinois senate. while i didn't necessarily like him as a human being, he, at least in those interactions i had, was a person who acted on his word.

sadly the race for president is between Romney and Huckabee
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meh, I think it's either Giuliani or Romney, which makes me sick because people are only voting for Giuliani because he couldn't really fuck anything up after 9/11 and if people actually see through Giuliani's horseshit they'll vote for Romney not knowing he did absolutely FUCKALL as Governor of Massachusetts. So we've got a hero-by-default that married his cousin or the state governor that has the distinction of politician-with-most-days-spent-outside-of-his-state-of-responsibility.

I wouldn't vote for my mom either. That would be a throwaway vote for sure. She's a black woman. I'd be better off putting my ballot in a recycling bin than voting for a black woman. See, Obama's not THAT black and the only reason even other women are voting for Hillary is because they're dumb enough to believe she absorbed some kind of knowlege and ability from Bill when he was in office. So yeah, if you're black AND possess a vagina (even one that once engulfed Presidential Peen), there's no fucking way.

I agree with Karl Rove in that the winner will not be a Republican. The majority of the populace is bitter about the last 8 years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd LOVE to believe that, but the fact of the matter is that it will either be Clinton or Obama as the democratic nominee and the American public just will not swallow it. Advanced as we may think we are, Hillary is still a dumb cunt and Barack is a dumb nigger (possibly sand nigger) in their eyes. I hope I'm wrong, as nothing would make me happier than to see Obama in the white house for the next 8 years. But really, take a look at your average Oklahoman/Texan/Minnesotan/etc. and tell me it's not true.

it doesn't matter who you vote for. the candidate who will say the words "9/11" and "terror" the most times wins per default.

i suppose a better question than who do you line up with about the issues is who do believe to be less full of shit.
I could take a decision that is made that I don't agree with if you told me about it in an upfront way, explained your reasoning and didn't fill me with bullshit reasoning and unsubstantiated claims.
I'm also in favor of small government, more decisions made by the state as opposed to the Feds that way if I didn't like certain things I could move to another state instead of another country.

Y'know, it doesn't really matter who the next President is. In a normal Administration, plans/bills and laws are put into action that literally forces the incumbent to re-enforce the previous Policy for approximately 2 years. The Bush Administration has turned that on its head; the next President will be lucky if he/she can get ANYthing done in his time in Office.
Still, as far as things go, I'd prefer it if the next occupant in the White House was a Democrat. At least then I could play at being the wounded political cynic and jeer incessantly at every snafu made by our Leader, no matter how mundane or minor.
Plus, the country needs a bit of a break before the *really* unpleasant stuff starts happening...

Yeah, turns out I most agree with Obama, but that's a throwaway vote for sure. I mean, let's sweep aside the fact that he's WOEFULLY inexperienced and every time he makes a public appearance he looks like a little kid that got thrown in the deep end. When it comes down to it, no matter how much Oprah backs him up, he's still a black man whose last name rhymes with Osama. He'll never get the redneck vote.
It's so bad that I heard something on the radio a couple of days saying there are rumors Obama is a "closet Muslim".
===
I'm more uindecided at this point than ever. Before last election, I was a total newswhore- punditry, e-mails, getting info from every direction. I was so disillusioned that this fucking retard was voted in again, that I got burnout and took way too much of a step back. And now, the candidates I agree with most either have no chance or the results surprise me a little.
I will say that I apparently have very little in common with Ron Paul despite the staunch support he's been receiving across party lines.

No. I really don't. Strangely enough, this was the exact thought I had as I walked to breakfast this morning.
Every one of them is the same except for Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. I can't vote for a man my little brother could beat up and I don't want to vote for someone who believes that the North American Union will be occurring any time soon.
For the rest of them, it's just a question of "What makes this one an asshole?" You'll find an answer to that question for every candidate on all two sides of the debate.
