It snowed yesterday. I left work at 130 and there was about an inch after maybe 45 min of snow. As I departed work, the roads were terrible. However, some people seem to think driving 45 is a good idea.
Example 1 is some douche in a Maxima. We're at a red light. He's next to me. While there are cars still in the intersection, while we still have a red light, this moron takes off and T-bones a pickup truck. I have absolutely no idea what this retard was thinking.
Example 2. At another intersection I saw a guy in a Jeep CJ7 try to take a hard left turn, while not in 4WD, spin out, do a 360 and side-swipe a car parked on the side of the road. He had the turn, but decided to gun it for some unknown reason, lost control, and made a fool of himself.
Example 3. Another red light. The jackass next to me is in a Subaru. Again, he starts to inch forward and before the light even turns green for us, he guns it through the intersection, loses control and smashes into the guard rail.
Example 4. A Mustang was tailgating a Jeep. The Jeep had to stop because some fucking genius was cutting him off driving a Civic. The Civic lost control and hit a guard rail, the Jeep hit the brakes and the Mustang rear-ended the Jeep.
Example 5. A woman in a Ford Excursion was reading a book while driving. I shit you not. Reading a fucking book while driving through the snow in which you couldn't see more than 50 feet. She ran a red light and caused 2 cars to spin out. No one touched paint, but still.... what the fuck?
I figured that people who live in New England have had plenty of experience driving in snow. I've had my license for 7 years, since I was 16, and have never had an accident in the snow. How people who are much older than I, who have experienced way more snow storms, can be such poor drivers is beyond me. But then again, I'm not that shocked. 9 out of 10 people are terrible drivers anyways. They freak out in rain and forget how to drive, freak out in snow and act like total fucking morons...hell, they can barely drive when it's sunny and dry out.
Bottom line is, people are fucking dolts. On the bright side it only took me about 45 min to get home from work, which is normally a 20 minute drive. On the bad side, it took me about an hour to shovel my car out this morning. I love snow, though. I think I'm going to build a snow castle when I get home today.

Ditto.
I'm not scared of driving in heavy snow or ice, but I don't do stupid shit like speed around in it or try to fellate myself on the interstate.
I only do THAT in the summer.

Even though I thought it was gonna be a post about making snowmen and having snowball fights.
More than an inch of snow and the UK grinds to a complete halt. It is pathetic.

No one knows how to drive in western Michigan, ever. They've given me road rage, which doesn't bode too well with my regular rage.
And it snowed last night. I will probably witness every idiot you described, possibly even the book-woman.

worst driver I have ever seen was in new england, a minivan moron.
I was driving a semi, loaded heavy at 42,000 pounds through a little snowstorm one night.
I was driving across I-84 down that little mountain when this buffoon decides that despite the fact I am only going 55 I must be stopped!
He passes me on the right side (I was in the hammer lane) then cuts me off. now what amazes me is that other than the two of us the road is EMPTY.
I lay on my brake so as not to spalt the childraping assclown. (You know how hard it is te get shit out of the grill of a semi?) Barely do I miss the fool who in a burst of get the fuck awayness speeds up until all I can see are his tail lights about a mile up the road.
Shrugging I resume my pace of 55 mph. During the next 15 minutes I slowly gain on the moron Who is now in the slow lane. I draw abreast of him, he is falling back past my mudflaps.
Repeat above, he guns it, and as soon as he is past my front bumper locks it down. Again I swear loudly and brake to avoid this suicidal horsefucking goatlicking frograping assmuncher. My wife was sitting next to me in the jump seat the whole time. I get over in the slow lane and resume my sedate pace. The moron gets about 100 feet in front of me and stays there.
I tire of this little game, so at the next rest stop I wait until it has passed the exit ramp before getting off.
HE PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE!!!
Now I am just plain pissed. I probably wouldn't have been so irate had my wife not been in the truck with me and endangered by this moron.
I see a dome light come on and a door open.
I assume he is reaching for a weapon.
I reach down into the bag by my shifter and produce my handy dandy .38.
I open the door and jump down gun quite visible at my side.
He shut his door and floored it outta there. The other patrons of the rest stop looked at me shrugged and went about their business.
To this day I don't know what his damage was, It seemed like he wanted me to lose control of the truck and kill him.
Never saw the ass again. But if thats a typical new england snow driver then I doubt I will ever go back unless I am heavily armed. :P
The moral of the story, don't endanger my wife I might just shoot you.

Its like people forget what snow is like. They know it snows in the North East. They know it will snow at least once every year, yet they are shocked and confused when it does snow. I bet if it snowed here like it does in Canuckistan, people wouldn't freak out as much.
Naw.
They'd still be retarded.

That's basically what I'm trying to explain, Le Mans. When we get snow here it's just snow. On Wednesday of last week we got 1, maybe 2 inches. It sent the area into crisis mode. We had trucks ready and running from 4AM on loaded with some beet juice concoction to help the roads not freeze. People were driving around at 6MPH because they get paralyzed every time something white falls from the sky. They'll drive 92MPH if it's raining harder than a four hour priapism, but watch the fuck out if the sky starts to dandruff all over. It's not like we ever get hit with monster snowfalls or terrible ice/sleet mixtures. Me? I just try to drive to work. The normals? They're quaking in their boots doubting every road and turn and acting like staight McGoos.
Don't even get me started on the grocery stores. They get picked clean after a snow advisory the day before potential - not guaranteed - snowfall. Everyone buys bread, milk and toilet paper. Why only those items? Like you're even going to need toilet paper after stopping your system up with all that bread and milk.
===
You forgot duct tape. And that's because americans are afraid of the slightest thing.
Seriously, it's probably just because people are not as well prepared and as well equiped as we are in Canada for instance.
A foot and half of snow fell on the first snow storm and almost everyone had their winter tires installed and our numerous snow plows were buzzing.
About 5 inches fell this morning and they annoucned 12-15 inches for the weekend.
It's been none stop for two weeks and I can only imagine the chaos in a city not used or prepared for that kind of temperature.

No. I did see all these, but believe what you will. It's the internet and everyone is always right. If it makes you feel better to be edgy and attempt to call me out, then so be it! But realize all I was trying to do was share my insight on why people do stupid shit when it snows. Regardless if you believe these events to be true or not (even though they are true), you have to agree that the majority of people act like complete morons when it snows.

we've been having snow storms in the last two weeks and a pretty big one coming this weekend and everytime i went outside, it didn't feel like i was brandishing a sword and riding a white horse in a frontal assault on a mediaval army.
it just felt like walking in the snow, midly cold and annoying.

Evangelize. Shepherd the flock. Bring to the fold the innocent, the slutty, the thrillseekers, the shoeless, the anfry and the jelus, the simple, the complex, the cripples, the war widows and the celebrants of Fanta Orange.

You went to school the next time, whereas the pussies here would just keep the kids home even if a "chance of snow" didn't pan out and schools were closed anyway. And on your way to school, on the bus, you had a scary ass incident that you survived. This incident has doubtless changed you in ways you hardly realize, likely in all the positive aspects of your life. You are better for manning up and going to school, unlike the protected bubblewrapped gloids people are raising these days who can't go to school "if it's too cold" or "there might be snow."
Celebrate your experiences. Experience beats shelter any day.
Unless we're talking about the Holocaust or something. Then shelter is preferred.

I fully believe all of these sightings occurred in one day. One need only watch those films of pileups on seemingly clear roads during only minor inclement weather on YouTube to become faithful.
People that live in places where weather gets shitty just seem to have lots of trouble driving in it. Makes no sense.

Fucking schools closed last year on a Wed. night because we MIGHT have had snow on Thursday.
We didn't.
The schools stayed closed.
==================
I remember one time in high school, it started snowing really heavy around 10pm. School was then canceled for the following day. When I awoke, I found that the temperature had risen to 40, the sun was out and all the snow had melted. To make up for it, the next time it snowed we went to school. The roads were solid ice and our bus ride was terrifying. The driver would hit the brakes and slide 20 more feet down the street. By the end of the school day, there was about a foot (give or take) of snow. It sucked.

Everyone flips out and acts a damn fool on the roads, only they do so at 8MPH and still manage to fuck it all up and hit other cars/streetlights/cripples/war widows.
I hate this place when it snows. Or when there's a chance of snow.

I, too, have been known to have Tourette's-like outbursts and say "fucking cunt" numerous times a day. One of the things I always observe during snowstorms, having lived in Maine for 33 years, is that when it snows, all of the fuckbubble rednecks with their goddam pickup trucks with snowplows attached have to drive around at about 50 mph from driveway to driveway like they're on an urgent mission. These asshats could never stop or make an evasive maneuver if they had to. They gotta haul ass all over the place so they can whack another guy 50 bucks to plow his lawn halfway into the next county!

inion_de_trua, I agree with both you and Sico. It mostly depends on the weather conditions and the car you drive. For the weather yesterday, I was in my RWD car and driving 20mph was fine with me as. If I had been in my Jeep I would have felt much more comfortable driving around 25-35 as that car is amazing and never gets stuck/loses control. Also, I know how to drive safely in all weather conditions. You haven't been through anything until you're driving up 95 north, single lane of traffic, snowing so badly you cant see past the tail lights which are 2 feet ahead of you, 3 feet of snow on the ground (and counting), and its thundering and lightening. Freaky shit.
But yeah. I see your point and agree with you, but I also agree with Sico. Mostly, it depends on the weather, imo.

hmmm well, this made me think. i generally travel above the speed limit. when it rains i stay within 5-10 of the speed limit. when it snows bad i generally go the speedlimit and perhaps under. i live on a shitty road. i am surrounded by shitty roads. these shitty roads are also not plowed very quickly. i have a very light, front wheel drive automatic (weep) honda civic, ie. shit for snow.
i find out what speed i lose traction at and then stay just below that. if i find that's 20mph in a 25 zone, then tough shit. i also think of it as loss of stupid people prevention because i do slow everyone else around me. there are TONS of suvs and all wheel drive vehicles in this area. what people don't realize about 4wd is it is meant to help you go, not to help you stop. so sure, you start without fishtailing right off the intersection and you're handling curves very well. but if you slam on your brakes and you're behind me and we're all doing 35 mph you are still going to skid to a stop and possibly(probably) into me. if someone is going to drive up my ass in bad weather, i'm going to make sure they're not going too fast if and when they do smash into me.
excuse me if i don't want to die.

well, you made the assumption that i rode the shot bus aka was special ed. until i was 16 upon which time i received a license to drive a motor vehicle and made the implication that acquiring said license for motor vehicle operation was otherwise unattainable due to lack of a stable mental condition which would otherwise allow me access to the wondrous world of motor vehicle travel when in actuality the legal age limit to attain said license is 16 under the conditions that the person in question has passed a driver's educational program, had their driver's temporary permit for at least 6 months, and had 6 hours of driving time with the appropriate instructor. henceforth 16.5 is the earliest age any individual in the commonwealth of massachusetts can attain a license to operate a motor vehicle.
if you were not implying that then i apologize as i got zero sleep, woke up early to shovel my car out of 3 feet of snow (thank you, plow trucks) and am rather tired/out of it.
good day.

While I agree with the general sentiment of this post I hate the dipshits that go ridiculously slow as if to prove a point that they know how to drive in the snow. No, Jackass, you don't or else you would drive at an optimal speed while maintaining control of your vehicle instead of looking like circus clown pedaling a tricycle with a size 32 shoe.
good god, i'm agreeing with sico

Ah, the awakening. 23 and you are starting to realize that people are idiots. Now the fun part. Over the next 10-15 years, these types of things will chew on your soul. When you get to the point that you just can't take these fucking morons anymore and you start to set down concrete plans for a killing spree or a long and drawn out series of serial murders, just take a moment and think. And when you are done, take just one hostage. It is extremely cathartic and you'll cut down on your sentence.

sicosemen: I agree. However, it's hard to drive faster than 20 when there are cars in front of you. I wish I could push them all like shopping carts :(

This is precisely why I moved into the city. I can get to work, school, and the store by bus, rail, or foot.
Fuck the autos.

my favorite yesterday was i hopped in the highway shortly after it started cuz while everything slows down because the amount of traffic the snow doesn't have much of a chance to stick except on the on/off ramps. and i was right, highway was fine, everyone was being pretty smart and not speeding. cept for this one guy who cuts off a semi and slides sideways to the offramp.
no accident, but really dude, miss the fucking exit and take the next one.

Photograph your snow castle sir.
Sounds like you saw a bunch of fucking morons almost get killed. Good stuff. Rain did the same thing to people in California. Obviously being a Brit I could handle my car, but some people just lost it entirely.
What's this 2 girls 1 finger thing? It's not some kind of elaborate Urbane joke is it?
