I tried doing all of the strings and with more definition, but my paintbrush was too thick and it looked bad.

I thought this was instructions.
I've been doing my own version of sunbursts which look pretty nice, and I havn't found a good way to do that quilted top look. The Van Halen style is easy. Solid doesn't take any thought at all. Metallic is just as easy. Metalic flakes is pretty standard.
This would have been so much better had it been instructions.
