In the book the guy gets caught by vampire hunter hunters and sentenced in a court of vampire law and he's all like "wow, I'm like Dracula only everyone else is dracula and I'm the only guy with a pitchfork and a flaming torch" and that's it.
Also there is an entire chapter about how the guy gets fat, grows a huge beard and spends afternoons in a field chewing a stalk of grass.

Maybe she commandeered a ferry. Maybe she didn't drive but simply took a boat and appropriated supplies and vehicles on what ever side she reached. I don't think this is a major plot hole. Cars and equipment were strewn everywhere.

This one was in the works for fifteen years and in turnaround for 10. The only reason they got it made at all was because Will Smith came on board and Akiva Goldsman salvaged the script (if you could call it that) and exec produced.
You're speaking in generalities about Hollywood and how they beat a dead horse but this project will not be sequelized.
It's more likely someone would remake it by more faithfully adapting the original novel.
This one was based on the Charlton Heston film which was based on the book.
Since no one yet has actually done this that is more likely in 10 years or so.

Don't forget the 60's version, The Last Man on Earth. Starred Vincent Price, and as cheap and shitty as it was it was more faithful to the original story than Omega Man or IAL.
The book is a very simple, straighforward story (yes, I'm a huge fan of Richard Matheson). Amazing how Hollywood fucks it up time after time.

I didn't see it. I don't plan on seeing it, but it'll be on cable someday, and if it comes to HBO instead of another premium channel exclusively, then I might see it someday. Not that I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I reckon it might be on HBO one evening, or night, and I might watch it for lack of anything more exciting to do. I remember Anthony Zerbe being quite good in The Omega Man. I always liked Anthony Zerbe. Well, I haven't seen him in many things, but I remember him from Harry O, which was one of the favorite shows of one of my older brothers. I like David Jansen, too. I read he drank a lot. I mean: a lot. Harry O was a good show. I used to watch the reruns with my brother very late on weekend nights in Missouri. O, halcyon days long past.

The movie was exactly what I was expecting it would be. I figured that since it was getting such good reviews, there might have been something special about it, but no. The landscape effects were really cool in that it actually seems like Manhattan is a ghost town, but the zombie effects were so ridiculous that it balances out.
In the one critical scene with the dogs who are trying to attack Will Smith, you really mean all the ambient light is ok, but they can't cross over the one foot wide ray of sunshine? Hell, even Dracula could do that and these are attack dogs.
Plus, what the hell are the people on the farm supposed to do with a vial of blood? It only took him three years to figure out how to isolate the sample and he's the world's top scientist.
Whatever, it's a good movie if you go in expecting it to suck.
