You see what you want, what's familiar.
I like the phenomenon of pareidolia. Everytime you look at the clouds and see a bunny - pareidolia. Of course there is no bunny there, that's impossible and insane. Your mind, however, still tells you that there is a bunny. In shape, at least.
Pareidolia is better known when people see Jesus or the Virgin Mary in common things like doors, glass, pavement stains, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Of course, there isn't a human being alive that actually knows what Jesus or Mary looked like. What we have are the Middle Ages and on paintings of what Europeans said they looked like. So, people run with that.
That's the most amazing part of this phenomenon.
People think they see something even though it is completely impossible to know what the thing they think they see looks like.
Astounding.
It is even more prevelant in nature. People will see faces, human poses, animals, and (more frequently) sexual organs.
With the internet, you can finds thousands of examples of this. Here are a few.
