I was watching Family Guy on Global just a few minutes ago, and I saw an ad for a program that was called "The Guard". As far as I could tell, the premise was that it followed the events in the life of a search and rescue swimmer (or something like that), and it showed a few clips which showed him being righteous ("I don't take advantage of drunk women, I believe) and putting his job on the line and going above and beyond the call of duty and all of that.
Undoubtedly, the character is a fervent christian who thinks alcohol and cigarettes are sin. It could be worse - he could be abstinent (probably the only reason he isn't is because then no one would ever watch it for any reason.
The reason for this post isn't because of that one program, but a disturbing trend I call the wimpifying of TV. That is, that networks such as Global and NBC prefer programs that focus on feelings, soul-searching, and other pointless things, mainly because:
1. Programs like that are cheap to make, and since it won't cost them much to make, they won't have qualms about abruptly cutting it after the first season.
2. Since nothing happens, for instance no nudity (the CBC, a Canadian government-funded network, on the other hand, is airing an R-rated (for sex and nudity, mainly) drama called "The Tudors", which is the only primetime R-rated program I have ever seen), very little sex, and less violence than any given James Bond movie. Also, since most of this introverted soul-searching doesn't involve treating women like slaves, insulting Jews, or dealing with terrorism (The Unit, a program which I fully despise, at least has "sensuality" and some violence, as well as torture scenes), so the networks won't have to fear lobby groups.
I don't think there's any real way to solve it, because feminists and people from minorities have gradually worn the networks down, until they will air any old shit as long as it isn't controversial.

Step back a moment and see the big picture. It is this: There is nothing on TV. Go outside and play.

I don't actually know that much about soap operas, mainly because while I have watched every kind of TV (documentaries, dramas, sitcoms, the news of course, and some reality TV), I have never, ever seen a soap opera from start to finish.

I believe the Americans ALSO have the Tudors.
----------
that wasn't my point, my point was that it was produced by a canadian network, not an American run. The Guard, to make an example, is filmed in canada and is described over and over as a "Canadian" film, but it's actually run by Global, which is an American network.

===
Solve what?
And you think 'feminists' are responsible for the downfall of television? Are you kidding? 'Reality' TV has assured us an abundance of all sorts of celebutards and desperate females staggering around drunk and stupid any hour of the day. How was this orchestrated by feminists?
----------
I wasn't really specific, I wasn't talking about reality TV. Reality TV is a whole different kettle of fish, not many people actually watch it regularly (most of us have probably tried to watch an episode of Big Brother, Survivor, or the Amazing Race at some time), and the people who do have sad, sad lives.
What was talking about is where there are outcries when people see a television show without black people, or where women aren't completely dominant, that generally inconveniences networks, so they shoot down anything that might possibly be offensive to anyone.

Uber's been especially boring of late. I've been watching more TV, perhaps as a result. I used to enjoy having sex. Those were grand times.

Your observations are incredibly limited and simplistic.
Your conclusions are lazy and childish and carry a distinct stench of ignorance and entitlement.
Still, inexplicably you scratch on some basic truths.
More questions - less presumptions.
Keep skating.

Actually, there is no proper term. Newb, Noob, n00b, n0ob, noobi, nooby, noobie, noobee, newby, newbie, newbee, and all other variations are perfectly acceptable under any circumstance where the word applies.

I solved the problem you're having a year and a half ago by not having a tv in my home.

There is a button on your TV called ON/OFF. Use it.
