It's kind of disconcerting, you have Federer - the greatest player ever, fuck arguably, Nadal probably the next best, so if you weigh up the equation, Novak is pretty fucking special in his own right, especially at 20. I'd love to see McEnroe/Bjorg sp and company mix it up with these guys. It's not like Pele v Maradona, they have a certain 'sublety', it'd be like comparing the pair to Charlton/Grieves/Beckenbauer/Cruyff/Gullit/Zidane/Figo/Stoichov/Ronaldinhio/Kaka, it's not the fucking same, and you don't need the match-up to prove it, just as you don't need to match Pele against Diego, regardless him carrying Argentina to two world cup finals against sub-par, slightly wolfenstein demonic, by the book German sides. Whilst in the past, I have shown contempt for Lleyton Hewitt and possibly even derided him, I believe I may have 'turned' slightly - during the fifth set against Baghdatis.
I have found this recently added emotion to my complex emotional jigsaw, puzzlying.
When the commentators were egging him on, nay pleading for him to unleash something from within, (hang on I'm watching a point...sweet - deuce), I felt that, cool - deuce again, I felt that our ugly Australian was operating and had called upon something else - intelligent resolve. Calm, understood, resolve.
He has since gone up a notch in my highly anticipated who's who in d-r's favour of who's who notch book.
