My Predictions for 2010 (1577 hits)

This is exactly what is says, my predictions for 2010. Since it's still january, I suppose it's still new year-ish enough to make it. I put it in computers & internet because most of it is about that.
1. Console games will finally disappear.
This hasn't been a sudden defeat but a slow, drawn-out thing. PCs are more versatile, easier to use, and generally more stable than a lot of consoles (*glances at the Xbox 360*). One by one the old console makers, Atari, Sega, all crumbled. Really, the only one left is the king, Nintendo (Microsoft doesn't count because Xbox is only a side-project, while Nintendo depends on the console alone, while Sony just make crappy TVs). The DS and then the Wii certainly bolstered them, but I believe that eventually consoles will be a thing of the past. I'm predicting 2010 because this will be when Nintendo will start to decline (the Wii will be a few years old by then and I doubt that their next console will be as good).
2. Apple crawls into a corner and dies.
I mean, Apple should never have truly lived, for years they have snapped up the scraps that Microsoft leaves behind, and without them making such good specialized "artsy" software (graphics editing and Publisher-like programs) they would have tanked long ago. They preserved themselves with the iPod, but the iPhone is already pretty much a failure, Leopard is pretty much unnoticed, and fairly soon they will start bleeding money.
3. Barack Obama will be elected.
I'm not informed on the whole story, but as far as I can tell, no one will vote for Ron Paul (the media hates him), Hillary Clinton (even feminists hate her), and Mike Huckabee is a failure. The majority will vote for Obama just for the hell of it, but there's no guarantees about what they'll be saddled with.
4. Because of the recession (which will happen, regardless of how much money the US Treasury throws at it), people will hoard their money and stop investing as much. This means that people will be reluctant to buy expensive computers, iPods, video games, and office software. Because of their natural cheapness, companies will start using Linux and freeware word processors and spreadsheet programs, which will slowly, inch by inch, gain more popularity, eventually driving a lot of software companies out of business and impoverishing the rest.
5. The war in Iraq. That's all I'm saying, you can search the lists of posts by a person named "electrictoothsyndrome" and formulate your own opinions, I'm leaving this one open for speculation.
I'll leave you all with a screenshot of microsoft.com circa October, 1996 (unfortunately, I couldn't actually get a screenshot so I cheated and used web.archive.org, which means no pictures). Laugh at the ridiculous yellow sidebar, it's begging for it. It even has one of those stupid rating icons, that not even idiots have any more.

I read this, and was so overwhelmed with the stupidity in this article I shot myself. But I made sure to put this in my will before I blew my brains out. Here is my last will and testament.
1.I would like to give all of my posessions and funds(pff) to my family spread out evenly
2.I would also like to have the writer of this particular article executed at once.

maybe some of this will happen, but not in 2010.
consol games are a multibillion dollar industry. its not going to colapse over night.
ressesion is about two months away if trends continue. its really not a huge deal. we were in recession 7 years ago.
apple isnt going anywhere within 2 years. its still a strong brand.
microsoft will still be the stanard in governments and buisiness.
obama could very well be president. he seems on top right now but its still VERY early.
iraq will still be a fucked up shithole. us troops will still be there.

"PCs are easier for gaming" is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard.
PCs require installing the games, fixing the settings to be compatible with your computer, often require a boot disk. Most computer games require updates and other lame shit. Think about it. It's really a huge pain in the ass.
With a console, you put the game in, and you turn it on. It's that simple. You don't have to make sure you have compatible hardware, you don't have to download updates, you don't have to trouble shoot stupid bugs in the game, and you don't have to change the settings for efficiency.
There's actually not a single thing easier about gaming on a computer, but there are many things that are harder and annoying.
Up until about a year and a half ago, I had played my fair share of computer, and console games since I was 4 years old. I know the difference. I don't understand where your horrible stance on this comes from.

MS Paint and video games are a fairly different subject. When someone argues that I should have a Mac instead of a PC, because "MACS ARE FOR ARTISTS LOL", I just tell them that they are probably right, but Macs don't have MS Paint, so they lose by default.
That's just my excuse for getting a ThinkPad, though. I don't particularly care for MS Paint other than nostalgic reasons.

FTW: games have not used boot disks (unless you count having to have the game cd in the drive when you play it) since Windows 95.
Consoles are VASTLY easier to game with, especially now with the online component.

Take the DS (I don't know about the Wii myself, I haven't played one) - every time you get bored with the game you are playing, you have to shut off the DS, remove the cartridge, put another one in, and start the DS up again. With a PC you can switch games without having to turn it off, and can even have more than 1 running at once.

I've heard a lot of people talking about #1 happening and I honestly don't think it every will. A lot of people don't like playing games on a computer (myself included, for the MOST part) and much rather prefer a console. Plus, should Microshit and Nintendo release new consoles, they would have very strong sales soley based on the success of their previously released systems (the 360 and Wii).
Plus, to play most high end games on a computer, I'd need a new computer. Like, totally new. It would be expensive, whereas I can pick up a 360, PS3 or a Wii for much less and not have to worry about upgrading until the next system comes out.
