The New York Giants,
Ever since I can remember, a Giants game was revered in my family.
4 Generations of my family have supported the Giants, including my Grandfather and Great Grandfather who each had a hand in the Giants being admitted to the NFL in the 1920's.
When I was growing up it was just assumed that I would follow the family footsteps and for so many years, I did.
I can name pretty much every star player from the 1960's which is when my father started collecting Giants memorabilia full time.
Yes, Full time, as in, THATS HIS 'JOB'.
My Great-Grandfather has always been convinced that when my father started collecting full time it also started the "16 year death stretch" - the period from 1964 to 1980 when the Giants couldn't even get to the play offs. My Great-Grandfather died in 1980, and even on his death bed he cursed my father for causing the Giants downfall. The next season we qualified for the playoffs and in 87 we won the superbowl.
At a special gathering in the off season Bill Parcells (genius head coach) actually congratulated our family for supporting the Giants from their first days on the field, and when my grandfather passed away in 89 our family received flowers and gifts from the entire team including Phil Simms, who had played his entire career for the Giants and he had a lot of respect for our family because of our undying loyalty.
My Families obsession with the Giants was so great that when my father heard the Giants would start using The University of Albany as its summer training camp he informed me that whatever I wanted to pursue in life would be okay with him, if I went to Albany State.
That conversation was 12 years ago, and up until this point I have grudgingly accepted that by being a part of my family I am a part of the Giants, but today I just can't fucking take it anymore.
EVERY FUCKING THING my family does is related to the fucking Giants, my parents house is emblazoned with team colors, my folks send out a Giants Christmas card every fucking year, Every single male in my family has attempted to play NFL just to get into the Giants and we all fucking suck.
If you have ever gone to a Giants home game you have seen my father and his brother, dressed as fucking idiots giving it their best shot to be unofficial mascots.
If you have ever looked for Giants gear on ebay you have seen my fathers ebay store.
My uncle has an 05 mustang, with Giants logo's painted on each body panel. People laugh and stare - My family thinks they are supporting us and the Giants.
I realised about a decade ago I hate sport, I honestly do. From when I was a kid EVERYTHING revolved around the Giants game. My father refused to drive my mother to hospital when her water had broken until after a Giants game in 1974. After my older brother was born IN THE HOUSE WHILE A FUCKING GIANTS GAME WAS ON the family thought it was an omen that would bring good luck because 1974 was the 3rd worst season in history for the Giants.
My Brother was married in Vegas last year dressed in the full Giants get up from head to toe, I bet you assume his wife was dressed as a cheerleader right? Nope - she had on the 75-79 uniform. How FUCKING GAY is that?
My family has even been interviewed by Regis, and we are featured on 2 DVD's about the Giants.
Its pathetic, and I am well aware its pathetic. My father would rather me come home and say "HEY DAD I AM A FRUITY ASS COCK BOY WHO LOVES THE COCK"
Than come home and say "GIANTS GAME? HMM ISN'T THERE ANYTHING ELSE ON?"
So I sit on it, I suck it up I 'skate it off' as it were. I don't go home for games but promise the Family I'm having a Giants party in my apartment, then I check the net to see if anything memorable happened because my father always calls right after the game, lately he has been calling on skype and conferencing in my Uncle and older brother.
Fun.
Well Fuck him and Fuck the Fucking Giants, I have no idea what my family has spent on Giants crap over the last 8 decades but if it had been invested properly we could buy the fucking franchise now.
Fuck the Fucking Giants.
