I saw The Exorcist. Kind of cool, but not frightening to myself.

I saw Jaws. I didn't want to go into the water like millions of others.

Jesus Christ, I was scared to death over Jaws. I had to have it explained to me that our local lakes were fresh water and would not contain said creatures.

Yet, most people I knew where frightened of The Exorcist.

I really wish someone had the skill to make a movie that truly could scare the shit out of people. Something better than what we are given now. But maybe I've missed something. What is a movie that you've seen that you'd consider the most frightening movie in existance?

Watch this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deoJUBW9CI8 and pay close attention to the "demon child" last part in the mirror. WTF?!? That can't be real, can it?

Anyway, hit me with your best scary movie. I had a friend that was scared to fucking DEATH over the creature below.

"The Exorcist" is still one of the scariest to me. I find Japanese movies like the "Juon" series to be very creepy.("The Grudge" movies were based on these.)"Ringu", "Ringu 2", "Rasen","Kairo", "Dark Water", and "The Eye" were all disturbing to me. They all pretty much kicked the ass of the American remakes, and with a fraction of the budget. They are light on "special effects", but use lighting, sound, and imagery very effectively. They seem to fuck with a primitive part of my mind where childhood dreams dwell. Oh, and "Kairo" (Pulse) had one of the most realistic-looking hanging victims I've seen in a movie. No cheesy "harness-under-the-clothes" look there, boy.

i saw part of one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies when i was a kid and was terrified to death of the closet in my room, thinking Freddy Krueger was in there, waiting to kill me in my sleep.

i also remember having to cover my eyes at the end of Roger Rabbit when the badguy was melting. that cheesy animation scared the shit out of me for some reason.

forensic- i have a shirt that has a picture of a newlywed couple cutting their wedding cake and smiling and underneath it, it says "BIG MISTAKE".

It scared my woman shitless, but I didn't think it was scary. Afterwards when it was dark I pretended to be a vampire, complete with roaring and attempted neck bite. We did not have sex that night.

I'm not a good scary-movie watcher at all. I get very freaked out and my best friend loves to torment me about it. She peer-pressured me into watching Dawn of the Dead not once but twice, and I still have zombie nightmares on a regular basis.

That was a cool YouTube link by the way. They're all fake, but cool nonetheless.

i don't know many horror movies that scared me. Haute Tension (High Tension) made me shit my pants a little (http://www.commeaucinema.com/bandes-annonces=11731.html) but taht's about it.

i was more scared watching a movie like Hotel Rwanda than some horror flick with hot chicks getting massacred.

on the other hand, the horror movie "Severance" isthe coolest horror movie i've seen.

the way it's filmed, you think it's like all movies...one stalking murderer with a trench coat picking out people one by one, but the ending is pretty cool. it's more like a comedy but very refreshing. rent it!

Silent Hill is pretty fucked up scary, for some reason it wasn't that it was full of lots of blood and gore, but the straight up WRONGNESS of some of the creatures is what got to me.

"Look mommy.. I'M BURNING!"

The faceless nurses, etc.

The freaky ass little larva/worm/ape creatures from "The Gate" make my skin crawl every time.

a few other things that scared me in movies when i saw them at the time:
- the freaky children in the passion of christ
- the second part of Das Experiment
- indiana jones going nuts in the temple of doom
- those creatures that strangle people and lay eggs in their mouth in Alien
- the giants in Fraggle Rock (this gave me nightmares for years)

The most genuinly scary movie of all time is, of course, granny does tranny. the one scene alone with the old lady's collapsed abdomen hanging down in front of the camera like a ghastly second pair of tits is enough to destroy one's enjoyment of sex forever.

doesn't count if it can scare you as a kid. nearly anything can, like that scene in that care bears movie when the devil kid hit the blond girl with red-diamond radiation.

anyway, it's tough to top Event Horizon. Hellraiser is a close second.

=========

Fuck off it doesn't. Night of the Living Dead is a genuinely scary film, regardless of when you watch it. Just for admitting you watched Care Bears means you're a massive homme, or that you have sisters. For your sake, I hope it's the latter.

Event Horizon is one of the most overrated movies of all time. Hellraiser rules, but it wasn't scary, unless, like your good self, you're a massive homme.

'The Fly' was pretty spooky, come to think of it. Anything with Jeff 'I rape Kids' Goldblum generally is. I watched 'The Big Chill' recently and fuck me he's terrifying in that.

----

I laughed at night of the living dead. you can't be scared of people who walk like your grandmother when she is constipated

i watched care bears because i was a 5 year old in america who likes cartoons in the mid-eighties. there were a few of us.

who calls gays homme's? must be an english thing.

event horizon is one of the most original horror movies i have ever seen. hellraiser is scary unless your father woke you up every morning by stripping off pieces of your back and forming them into meat hats.

the fly was spooky when he got the fly face. before and after that its just gross.

When I was a kid though, Invasion of the Body Snatchers scared the bejezus out of me. I was terrified to go to sleep because that was when the pod people would get you, digest you, and then make a zombie-esque replica out of you.

Because I saw it when I was about 8, 'Night of the Living Dead' still scares the shit out of me. I was hugely disappointed when they released a colour version of the film and discovered that the badass black fellow was wearing a pale blue cardigan.

'Dark Water' (Japanese version, dunno if it's been remade yet) is also fucking terrifying. 'Pans Labyrinth' was also highly creepy and there are parts of the saddest film in the world, 'Come and See' that are truly fucked up and scary.

Watching 'The Descent' for the first time was kind of spooky, but mainly because of the claustrophobia element. It's better to watch that movie with women anyway because they're so scared that afterwards they are 90% more likely to blow you.
