The young kid from American Idol. YEAH I KNOW YOU HATE THAT FUCKING show and the way it's diluted music and yadda yadda yadda -2meifyouwantbutItoldyouwhatwascominginthetitle yadda. The performance is actually good - John Lennon's "Imagine."

against my better judgment, i clicked that link.
normally i don't give enough of a shit to -2 a post like this -- and i just loooked up and didn't do it yet so probably won't (even though it deserves it just because you thought that slaughter of this song was anything that resembles 'good') really making the opening statement of this now rather lengthy sentence pointless but i'm not deleting it anyway -- but THAT? was fucking atrocious.
i didn't listen to the whole thing. i got to maybe the third line, said 'what the fuck is this garbage?' and clicked back.
i'm not a fan of covers in general or that show at all. if you're going to cover a song, especially a song as famous as all that, you need to make it your own. JC was good at this. so is Tom Waits. but that kid? i'm not sure where to even begin...

it's like sending me to church to preach to the congregation about how jesus is the answer. i don't buy it, so i'd probably do a poor job of selling it, you know?
or maybe compare it to say, some sniper blowing a guys head off from some really great distance (i don't know what that would be as i've never been much into sniper...ing, but this is just for argumenst sake anyway) VS. a guy taking out the bad guy with a nuclear missile.
sure the mushroom cloud and utter annihilation of the enemy were pretty to see, but it lacked any grace or skill to do it that way. took away the subtle beauty of the thing and in the process created a lot of collateral damage...like how this kid ruined that fucking song by trying to showcase his nuclear weapon of a voice on it.
look, what i'm trying to say here is that i want to take up the sniper lifestyle and make that kid my first target.

I don't hate it because it's "mainstream teenage crap", I hate it because the singers on it genuinely suck ass. Otherwise, why would they be on American Idol? Do you see any GOOD singers who sign up?

I don't hate the show. I like seeing people cry when they're told the reality of their delusions.
Then again, the guitar won't play itself, so the show never stands a chance.
Also: Not watching the video. If I want to hear a good version of it, I'll listen to Lennon do it himself.
