A year or so ago I signed up with Sprint for cellular service. I received a black KRZR cell phone, which I thought was pretty cool, and a 2 year contract.
I promptly added the Super Mario Brothers theme song to my main ring tone and a host of other classic video game sounds. Galaga? Check. Moon Patrol? Check. Dig Dug? Check. Pac-man? Check. Vanguard? Check. You get the point as there were tons of songs.
The phone is decent, but I got my first bill and something was terribly wrong. I was charged for a bunch of KB of data transfer. I don't recall doing anything on the phone that would let this happen. I had to call and have the service shut off but not before the next month would find more transfers. WTF!? I didn't push jack shit and didn't download a god damned thing!
So then I start getting text messages from somebody. Tons of them. Of course, I'm charged an assload of money per call. What the flying fuck?! STOP TEXTING ME, MOFO! I shut of text services. What the hell else is going to happen to increase my bill?
The phone battery is now defective.
After several different issues, the local service started to suck real bad. No signal. A cell phone without a signal is like having a child but having no arms to backhand the little bastard when they piss you off.
Some guy named Will was offering to extend my contract for another 2 years for 10% off my bill. Fuck that noise. I told him that they should take back my phone if they can't guarantee this service issue would be fixed. He blabbed on about "tower repairs" and whatnot. It was obvious he knew it was a problem.
Sadly, the store was filled with many other unsuspecting stooges that were getting their own new phones.
This could not stand. The only thing I could do was threaten the guy and that's exactly what I did.
"You're in trouble, now." I shouted before yelling "Wizzzzzaaaard!" at the top of my lungs.
The people in the store all looked at me as if I was on drugs. Scowls, head shakes, and looks of pity. It was really embarrassing. I don't recommend that anyone ever attempt doing this.
And if you are wondering; No. A wizard did not appear, Einstein.

The service issue is often due to a slightly defective reciever, but it's not quite defective enough for them to take it back.
The texts were probably from some asshole named jake, because people with that kind of name do those kinds of things. You could have just blocked him, and explained it all to the phone company.
"Wizard!" only works if there's a picture near you, of the specific one you had in mind. You have to know his real name beforehand, and the truly hard part about it is, you have to believe harder than you belived in santa when you were four.

I recently got a new 'phone. It's the JapCo Super-Whamidyne Whizbang 5000 or some shit. I have service with the same company I previously had service with, but the new 'phone does the text/email/internet BS as well as just being a 'phone. I'm stuck with that service because it's the only one that functions at my house. My house is in the sticks and apparently in 1994, too. I paid the online sale price for it a) so I wouldn't have to be on a contract, and b) because the price jump for not having a contract was less than the contract termination fee.
The advantage in not having a contract is that you're a customer at your choice, not theirs. Makes them take your complaints a bit more seriously. I know you've already signed up and once you've yelled "WIZARD!" in a 'phone store you've forever yelled "WIZARD!" in a 'phone store, but perhaps when this contract is up you can invoke this little piece of magic lore to your advantage.
