This past weekend was the NAGA New England open. We went, learned a lot, had a lot of fun, sweated on each other, and risked our lives in a monsoon on the way home. Good times.

Auto +2 for anything combat related. I've been lacking on the kick boxing since my son was born, but this makes my hands twitch. And I've always liked fighting in a gi more than shorts, it seems that shots don't hurt as much and you get used to the feel of the gi when you throw properly.

In a spine crippling sort of way. The last time I saw that much ground action, was a couple of days ago in the storms when I was trying to wrestle a tarp to the floor. I got muddy,sweaty and slightly injured. I came up triumphant and felt like a man should. Sadly there was no one around to clap.

Because they were. There were over 600 competitors in the tournament and NAGA did an excellent job of running everyone through on 12 mats in a single (albeit very long) day. Pretty much anyone that was watching my matches was sitting next to the person taking these photos, hence...out of frame.
Plus there was a lot to take in. They were running the "Absolute" division which is the ultra-advanced, no weight class, king-of-the-mountain competition for a championship belt and $1000. Then there was the women's competition, which is pretty damn hot. And then you've got the usual array of mma hotties standing in booths in tiny shorts and too much makeup selling t-shirts, gear, and board shorts.

Juls - Yes, it involves booze. Booze and other natural organic lubricants.
JoeyG - +2 because Master Randall made a joke to me yesterday about "The Mexican Surfboard".
Genko - It's a recommended black belt for the academy's mma program. It means absolutely fuckall anywhere else because it's completely proprietary. However, I feel completely confident in my abilities to train combat sports athletes to win their chosen competitions.
Tim - There were no strikes allowed at the grappling tournament, but if you want to see me and/or my fighters compete in full-contact mma, there will be an opportunity at the end of May. I'll keep you posted.

Hey, the kids are the stars of the show. Jackie's been training with me for just over 2 months. She took home a bronze in a division of almost all boys. And Connor was a damn machine! He's been training with me lest than 2 months and he took gold in the beginner no-gi division, was going to take gold in the beginner gi division but they bumped him up to intermediate. He took silver in the intermediate and got bumped up again to advanced where he took another silver. I've never seen so much bling on a 9 year old.
Those kids made me proud as hell. Makes me feel like I actually know what I'm doing.
