On Saturday I am leaving the warm sunny tropical splendor of Florida yet again, this time heading for Denver for a weekish. It's business so I won't have a lot of time for seeing of sights, climbing of rocks, or bighorning of sheep. I will, however, have time to stop in a few boozaramas in order to purchase beer to bring back with me. I have a list already, consisting of:
Fat Tire
Now then. I would appreciate any input you hopaholics might care to have. I would like to fill my beercoffin with a number of different area brews to bring back and later sample by the pool at my home. I'm perfectly content to fill it with Fat Tire if necessary, but I know that you know there are better/other brands available that I should try if I haven't already.
Know this: if the brand has a commercial on national TV, I'm not interested in it. Local brews, locally or regionally distributed is what I'm after here. Even brewpubs that don't distribute, as I gotta have dinner someplace. I'll be happy to write reviews and credit the sources, toss out drunken +2s for good recommendations, whatever. I'm gonna buy Fat Tire, as I like it. I'll buy some of, or a selection of, what is suggested, and provide a pic of the brews in a review (via a link). And before you think of it: preemptive 'Naga, naga... nagonna buy Coors'.
Ready? Beer me!

I won't have a lot of time for seeing of sights, climbing of rocks, or bighorning of sheep.
Just as there is no spoon, there are no rocks of climbing size in Florida. It does not matter how much time you have. If you wait, they will never come.
I live in FL, what part are you visiting?
-----
I know. I live in FL too, you see. I was visiting CO and bringing beer from there back with me.

D_M_D - Great Divide sells in FL, so I've tried the two IPAs you mention. Both awesome. I'll make a point to get the others you've listed. Thanks.

Avery's Maharaja Imperial IPA is epic, and so is their Mephistopheles Imperial Stout.
Great Divide's best include their Titan IPA, Yeti Imperial Stout, Oak-Aged Yeti Imperial Stout, their Old Ruffian Barleywine, and their Hercules Imperial IPA.

Hamms used to come in barrel-shaped steel cans. Classy. My dad always had Schlitz. Someone's brewing it again, after 20 years or so. The advertising says "Only for adults over 55" or something like that.

My father drinks Hamms. He drinks other (better) beers but usually has some Hamms somewhere in his house.
To this day, I don't understand why.

BeforeEmily - When I was In the US Navy, a bud of mine paid $25 to have the Budweiser logo tat'd on his arm. Didn't make any sense to me then, still doesn't. I drank Michelob then. Obviously, I was young and foolish.

Saccy - Carlsburg's everywhere, brewed all over the planet. Thank you for that, British Empire.
BeforeEmily - www.stonebrew.com makes an assortment of fine hop sodas. Had the IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale. Won't pass up the op to have more types.
Bubba - would that the list were comprehensive. There're more independant brewers in LoDo than that list has for the whole State. That said, Oskar Blues and Dillon Dam are not brands I've tried. I shall hunt them down if at all possible. I am gratified for your enlightening me to them.

Had their Carlsburg brand in the Seychelles. Okaytastic. None of them are available in the US in their natual state.
===
Sri Lankan? Really? I had no idea. Can't get Carlsburg here at all, or just that the import is different? It was all over Ireland.

A few years ago I spent two weeks in Boulder. There's probably not any local brews I haven't had after that. It was during that stay that I got introduced to Fat Tire, much as Bubba deems it mediocre. One thing I can say about CO - they like to brew beer. Dunno why, as none of the ingredients grow well there, but it's apparently an area of convergence of the primaries: water, barley, yeast, and hops.
Even so: bring it. I wish to be educated.

If you want something new belgium go with 1554 (a black ale) instead of fat tire. Also I doubt it will be available but I like their winter ale.
For a good wheat I recommend Easy street wheat by Odells Brewing.
90 shilling is my favorite brown next to newcastle..it also is from Odells.
If you like stouts, great divides Yeti imperial stout is very good.
I am not a big fan of heavily hopped beers, although hazed and infused from Boulder Beer is popular.
For brewpubs if you can make it down to Boulder, the Southern Sun or Mountain Sun have some of my favorite brews in the world. If can only stay in Denver, the Breckenridge brewery is good.

I like beer. If you like a particular style/brand/model, tell me what it is. If I haven't had it and I can find it, I'll try it. Make your list as long as you like. I am not unwilling to purchase extra luggage.

lungfish - I'm not military or connected with it anymore, I'm a Forensic Engineer. There was a really cool 2x semi crash on I-8 near a few weeks ago and I'm investigating it. Beats having a real job.
*stops ignoring Bubba* Bubba - I like all kinds of beer, with all kinds of hop levels. I'm a homebrewer, for fuck's sake. Sam Adams is brewed by Falstaff and it's not even close to really hoppy. I'm not saying that the innumerable models of Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are bad, I'm saying I've had them. If you can let me know a brand in the Denver area that you recommend and that I've not sampled, I'll make room for it in my beercoffin. If all you've got is stuff I can get at my local store, I won't waste the room on the plane for it, I'll just buy it down the road. I'm not calling you names (OK, "idiot" is a name, so I'll take it back. You aren't an idiot. Happy?). Im saying "contribute please". I've been all over the planet and had literally thousands of brands of beer. I'm looking for new experiences here.

lungfish - I was in Gila Bend, and stayed at a hotel right at I-8 and US85, with all the truckers, Army types, and old rich Harley dudes. I did stop in the Space Age Cafe once and also frequently sampled the highly recommended Sofia's tacos.
Bubba2341 - you're telling me that mass-produced, nationally-distributed Sierra Nevada generibeer is better than Fat Tire? You're an idiot. *ignores Bubba from now on because he's clearly either fucking stupid or has no taste buds, or both*
++++++++++++++++++
Fine, Scrap, you obviously don't like hops. Fat Tire is drinkable, but that's about it. I like hoppy beers, like Sam Adams and SN Porter. Fine. Call me names if you wish, but New Belgium is distributed just as far as all of the Sierra Nevada beers. Or didn't you know that???????????

Good then. The Goldwater range is adjacent to Gila Bend, and I kinda had you pegged doing military contract stuff. I mean, why would anyone else go to Gila Bend, except for tacos, which I did not try.
To address this post, I'm pretty much stuck in my ways with beer. Pretty much nothing but Pilsner Urquell for me, which is heaven. I will advise that you never try a Russian stout called Rasputin. I tried it recently and thought it sucked. I think very few beers suck.
And I'm done. Carry on.

I did not know JGreening was in Denver, so no. Besides, any Ubercon that included me and JGreening could not be secret because it'd have it's own gravity and affect the orbit of the Moon.
I'd buy Oathmeal a protein shake if I met him, though.

For no good reason, I'm curious if you stayed at the hotel on the Goldwater Range. I stayed there a couple nights last month for work. There was a cute girl at the guard shack. Chicks with guns. Mmmmm. The chicken fried steak from the Space Restaurant is still sitting in my gut.

Almost everything New Belgium Brewery makes. Abbey Ale, Tripple, 1887, etc.
Everything Sierra Nevada brewery makes: Pale Ale, Stout, Porter.
