opinions are definitely bad. especially for women.

i kid. I agree the themes are definitely very accessible and c.s. lewis is an avid christian so it shouldn't be all that surprising but those books are also pretty easy to read and enjoy without being overwhelmed by the themes.

I am not saying he wrote them with the Christianity as an allegory, I am saying I personally find that although suggested, the theme wasn't, for me, at all subtle. You can't argue that my brain saw the similarites and made a connection and refered back to this throughout the text, can you? I am not saying anything about why or how they were written, just voicing an opinion. Opinions are subjective and can't be wrong.

I win.

http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesArticle/Did-C-S-Lewis-Create-Narnia-as-an-Allegory-.id-3206.html

Orphelia, just in case you don't want to click the link, I'll give you the most relevant part of it:

"C.S. Lewis makes clear that he didn't write the Narnian Chronicles as a biblical allegory. But you may be asking: How can this be true given the obvious symbolism used throughout the series? In order to understand Lewis's side of the story, you need to understand the difference between allegory and something he called supposal."

Choose? The Christian themes are too self evident to ignore Hurty.

============

I'm not saying that they don't exist, I'm just saying that they're not specifically written as Christian books.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No, but they were certainly written with the themes in mind.

========

Are you being deliberately obtuse? Of course they were written with Christian themes in mind, but those are not the only themes which run through the book. You can choose whether to pay attention to the Christian themes and read them as an allegory, or you can choose not to. ARGH!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are actually calling me mentally slow?? (Yeah, I looked it up!)
My point, Hurty, is, that the theme are so in your bonkeyed face, you CAN'T ignore them! Lordy, I read them when I was 13 or something, and I got it straight away. You can't choose to ignore something so obvious. You can study them for different themes, but when you read them through it is impossible to not see it and there for think it! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

The Narnia tales are not religious.
---

Yes... Yes they are.

==========

There are a lot of Christian themes, but there are also elements of classical mythology, as well as stuff from fairy-tales. You can choose to read them as religious books designed to make Christianity more accessible to children (which many do), or you can read them purely as adventure stories.
