Has anybody here ever served in the French foriegn legion?
What is the general outlook in Europe on people who do?
What other units can they be compared with internationally, in the terms of them being an "eliete" force?
Any other interesting tidbits on the subject would be welcome.

yeah, pretty much you need to be able to run 10 kilometres with ease, and you get abused more than a red headed foster child, you'll get deployed to any african shit hole that you might be needed in, you'll have to take orders from french officers who didn't have to go through the same training as you did, and you have to march frustratingly slow

it's a little known fact that the FFL usually sees more action than other 'elite' units in the world.

Generally new recruits turning up at the gates to join the Foreign Legion would be welcomed inside and greeted by the alluring smell of Garlic and Wine. Once the doors closed behind them they would be asked serveral times, in a language not of their own, if they wanted to join. Once they had placed their mark on a piece of parchment they would be stripped naked and paraded around in front of the other men in order to get them hot and bothered. They would then be subjected to an intense 8 hours rape session where the only words they would be allowed to utter is 'Oui' and 'Mange'.
They would then been seen as one of the lads and be free to use the on site Brothel whenever they pleased.
