Well, thanks to Oprah Fucking Winfrey, we have yet another freak show to enjoy, and it is the unveiling of the world's first pregnant man.
Now before you get all worked up and think, 'oh, here goes Jack, railing against anyone not exactly like him again,' bear with me, I'll be brief.
34 year old Thomas Beattie of Oregon is pregnant. This is the only way he and his wife will be able to have a child, as she had a hysterectomy. There are pictures of Beattie and ultrasound scans that leave no doubt he is pregnant. He and his wife of ten years really want the child, and it seems that they and the child will one day be a happy family.
I have no problem with that. In fact, I wish them the best. Anyone of any age, sex or background who finds love in this world is lucky. I won't begrudge anyone that joy.
What I do have a problem with, is the media reporting the story.
For starters, Thomas Beattie is not a man.
Tracy Lagondino was a Miss Hawaii Teen USA finalist who used to date men until she began to accept that she felt more masculine than feminine. She had minimal reconstructive surgery and hormone therapy and became Thomas Beattie.
As Thomas Beattie, he still has his ovaries, and one of his eggs was fertilized with donated sperm. Now the child is gestating in his womb.
I have no problem with what Beattie has done. If he's happy, great, and I have no problem granting him the courtesy of addressing him as Mr.
But let's be honest here. Thomas Beattie is not a man. He could have requested a cut, folded, rolled and stitched pseudo-penis, but instead he simply opted for breast surgery and hormone therapy. He has not changed the reproductive organs he was born with. He has ovaries and a womb and therefore is not a man.
Legally, in the eyes of the courts, he is a man, but then if I had the money and the time and the commitment to the cause I could probably have myself legally declared a russet potato.
Technically, Beattie is a pregnant woman, not the world's first pregnant man.
Why can't people just say that? Are we so politically correct that we have lost the ability to call a spade a spade?

No transsexual should ever be referred to as their chosen sex. You are not physically able to change your genetic information, and so if you were both with XY or XX, thus you stay until you die, defining you irrefutably as male or female, respectively. DO NOT KID YOURSELF.
This is a pregnant woman. SHE had surgery to make herself look more like a man. SHE still has all the bits. Even if SHE didn't, SHE would still be a woman by definition because her entire body is made up of cells whose 23rd chromosomes are XX.

I agree with your opinion that it's non-news, seeing as how she has ovaries, and even would grant her the novelty of addressing her as "sir" or "mr." even if nobody is being fooled in actuality. But for some reason, even though it affects me not one iota, I just have a problem with a woman participating successfully in a beauty pageant (fine) --> then deciding she needs to be a man (fine) --> then doubling back and getting pregnant while still being called a "man" (not fine). I guess the doctors already cleared it with her, but I'm curious as to how all that extra testosterone floating in her system would affect the growing parasite...

I see it from a different perspective. I would respect a person 1000x more for expressing who they feel they are, for as freakish and hard to accept as it may be, than I would if they hid in a body or a gender or societal role they don't feel they belong in. THAT would be living a real lie. A person's identity is not ultimately, exclusively defined by their genitals. I think it's much more potentially damaging to self and others to pretend you're something you're not on the inside, as opposed to out.

And there are a thousand reasons for parents not to accept their child's relationships, this would just be one of them. I used to pass by a bar on the way to work in the morning (the EARLY morning, I was on the west coast working market hours) and they would hang out by a bar that stayed open to serve them coffee while they tried turning a final few tricks before sunrise. Depressing shit, actually, seeing them up close like that whenever they tried to bum a smoke. Not depressing because of what they had chosen to be, but because of what they had chosen to do. You think you're tired and run down after a day at work? Imagine blowing guys all night. Imagine that was your job. Imagine blowing guys all night without a health plan. Scary.

Yes, Sac, you are wrong. Again, it's the honesty issue. Covering up a DUI or a minor run in with the cops as a kid is one thing. Posing as one sex when you ARE another is something else again. Of course I would be personally offended by it, and I bet most of the high and mighty liberal left of Uber would have the same reaction if one of THEIR children came home with a man posing as a woman or vice versa, despite the constant broadcasts proclaiming them models of tolerance.
