I heard an interview on the radio with a cop before the torch run. He said he wasn't worried so much about the anti protestors as he was about the naked torch runners. He really didn't want to have to wrestle a naked man.

The Cultural Revolution and the cultural damage it wrought upon the entire PRC is generally condemned as a nationwide catastrophe, whose main instigators (in the PRC's view, the Gang of Four) have been brought to justice and whose reoccurrence is unthinkable in an increasingly modernized China.
China is never going to let Tibet go for strategis reasons, and they treat them better than the Dali Lama's church has (aside fromt hat whole cultural revolution).

isn't the china policy towards taiwan more important than what they do in tibet?
the hippies love to care about tibet because the buddists are all peaceful bald fat guys...and frankly, i care about them for that reason too. But taiwan is militaristic, angry, and on the verge of declaring independance, and probably going to be counting on the US and Japan as allies when china invades it when they do.
there's serious talk about how they're going to declare indepdnace at the opening ceremony. and china has vowed to invade the fuck out of them whenever and whereever they do it.
i'm more concerned about WW3 with china th an i am about beating up buddists.
because where will we get oru cheap labor from if we're at war with china?

Looked like a lovely day in sunny san fran, I'm not jealous or anything as I love the miserable cold shit we get over here in blighty.
My only thought on this 'Running the Torch' thing is that if they are going to change the route so radically and make everyone actually miss seeing the bloody thing, what is the point of running it in the first place? Why dont they do like they 'supposedly' did with the moon landing and fake it with nice background of sun and chinese flag waving loons?

Re: Cool looking Chinese flags, i was in Tien'anmen square over Christmas (not protesting) and near a massive structure callen Tien'anmen gate there is this overwhelming row of utterly GIGANTIC Chinese flags. In the midst of all the grandeur and spectacle, i swear to shit i almost saluted them.
