Normally I go about my life without much concern for the random social interactions that occur with complete strangers on a daily basis. I take for granted the awkward nod when I almost run into someone on a sidewalk, the casual "Excuse me" when cutting through a line, the "Hello" from the associate working the counter of the business I am currently a patron of. These pieces of politness are offered to a complete stranger just as easily as they are forgotten.
A smile to fellow man.
A motorist slowing down and allowing you into the lane.
Holding the door open.
At the gates of commerce chivalry died today. As I walked into a mall this afternoon, I was followed by a man and his girlfriend. At the first set of doors I opened the door and allowed the two entrance. I was not even given a nod. At the second set of doors, the man opened the door and allowed it to close not only on his girlfriend, but also on me. As I opened the door I was struck by such a wave of emotion that I normally do not feel. I was not reciprocated by this man at the very basic of levels of human interaction. Not even a nod, a smile, a halfhearted "thanks".
Nothing.
I wondered, "Was he just having a bad day? Would he soon regret his actions?"
Than I realized what the problem was.
He was a nigger.

It didn't come across that way. In order for that to work, the reader would have to equate racism (and it's racism which you are employing in this case, not discrimination) with a lack of chivalry. But there's too big a gap between racism and chivalry for me to see the irony.
In addition, I think people who expect to be treated chivalrously--including those who expect their own chivalry to be reciprocated--are annoying.
Nevertheless, the last sentence took me by surprise and made me laugh.

Racism is the lowest form of humour in this case it just wasn't funny.
Perhaps some kind of misogynistic jab would have been more appropriate, either way you failed.
The first bit was quite enjoyable, though - in case you were feeling discouraged.

very poor set up.
but then not all together untrue.
At my school we have the obligatory push-buttons for handicapped access. Rather than strain their oh so precious muscles, many of the urban youth just push the button and WAIT for the door to open.
I guess though from an economically and educationally disadvantaged viewpoint it could be perceived that: "The magic doors are fucking cool and make me feel like royalty dog"
