Crazy Eights is a silly children's game, but actually it's still fun if you're drunk and stoned enough. My friends and I have been gradually adding our own rules over the years. What follows is a snapshot of the rules as they exist today.
CRAZY EIGHTS HOUSE RULES
(Updated 18 April 2008)
1. Players cut for deal. The player with the lowest card deals. Aces are high. Jokers are never lowest.
2. The player with the highest point total after the first hand shall be required to keep score for the duration of play, as well as keep track of who's turn it is to deal. The score of each hand must be recorded in a way that allows any player to easily audit the scorekeeper's work.
3. Deal 7 cards (see exception, Mojo Rule). The dealer may elect to deal 8 cards, instead. Turn the next card in the deck up (see L's Rule). The deck may consist of a single deck of cards, or it may include some or all of the cards from a second deck.
4. Each player must either discard one card or draw one card from the deck. Discard may be executed after drawing. Discard is always optional, but must follow suit or rank, with the exception of eights and Jokers (see special cards, below)
5. "ONE CARD" (or something to that effect) must be announced prior to discarding the penultimate card or before any other player points out that "ONE CARD" has not been announced. The penalty for failing to announce "ONE CARD" is to draw one additional card from the draw pile. There is no penalty for falsely accusing another player of failing to make the required announcement; the accused player shall immediately show that he has at least two cards in his hand.
5.1. (S's Addendum to Last Card Rule) If any player fails to announce "ONE CARD" (or something to that effect) and that player discards his last card and wins the hand without being caught, then the next card on the draw pile shall be turned over and that card included in the hands of all other players.
6. The hand is complete when a player has discarded all of their cards. Players accumulate points based on the cards they still have at the end of each hand. Point values are as follows:
2 - 9 face value
10, J, Q, K 10 points
Ace 20 points
Jack of clubs 50 points
Jack of diamonds -5 points
Joker doubles the other cards (see exception)
7. The game is complete when any player has accumulated 100 or more points (provisional: or if any player has less than zero points). The game winner is the player with the lowest score. Ties shall be broken in a sudden death hand which includes all players, not just the tied winners. The first player to discard all their cards in the sudden death hand wins the game.
Exception to point accumulation: if a player is stuck with a Joker at the end of a hand, and if the Joker causes the player's total game points to exceed 99, then that player's score is fixed at 99. Note that if the player has enough points in his hand to go over 99 without the Joker, then the exception does not apply.
Alternate game: each player starts with 100 chips. Instead of losers accumulating points, the winner of each hand collects chips equal to the number of points in the other players' hands. The game ends when one or more players cannot cover their losses; the game winner is the player with the most chips. Losers who end the game with fewer chips than the winner are not distinguished from losers who end the game in debt. Jokers cannot cause a player to lose the game: if a player cannot cover their losses because of a joker, then that player is simply required to give all their remaining chips to the hand winner and continue play without the benefit of any chips. Players may loan chips back and forth.
8. Special cards:
Eights are wild and may be played on any suit. The player discarding an eight may change the suit to their preference. If an eight is the first card up, the dealer selects the suit after reviewing their cards.
Aces cause the next player to lose their turn.
Twos cause the next player to pick up two cards and lose their turn.
Kings change the direction of play.
(S's pluck-out-a-card rule for two-handed play) Kings have a different effect for hands with only two players. Playing a king requires the opposing player (the Pluckee) to either play a Joker or another king, or to hold up his cards and allow the king-discarder (the Plucker) to pluck out one card at random. This plucked card must be left face down on the table until it can be discarded. The Pluckee takes his regular turn after being plucked. Note that playing another king turns the tables: the Pluckee becomes the Plucker, and the original Plucker becomes the Pluckee. Picking up the plucked card without discarding it is considered a fumble.
Jack of Clubs causes the next player to pick up 5 cards prior to taking his turn. Note that being hit with the Jack of Clubs does not exempt the victim from drawing an additional card if they cannot (or choose not to) discard.
Jack of Spades causes the next player to trade all their cards with the person who played the jack of spades. Note that players cannot "inherit" a fumble or a "last card" by trading cards.
Jack of Diamonds allows the next player to play whatever card they like.
Jack of Hearts requires the next player to lay all his cards face up on the table for one complete round of play.
Queen of Hearts requires all the other players (except the player who played the queen of hearts) to draw three cards. The queen of hearts can be nullified with a joker, but only by the next player.
Jokers nullify the previous card, and the next player must follow the card before the previous one. Jokers may be played on any card including Aces, Twos, or Kings. For example: if a player gets hit with a Two, the player may discard a Joker in lieu of picking up two cards. If a King is played, the player who would have gone next may play a Joker and play continues without changing direction. Note that when a Joker is played, the card before the nullified card does not have any special effect, for example a Two would not cause the next player to pick up or lose a turn. If a Joker is the first card up then another card must be turned over. In this case, the card turned over retains any special effects (if it is a Two, the next player must pick up two cards.) If a Joker is played by the first player in a hand (thereby nullifying the first card turned over), then another card must be turned over. In this case, the card turned over does NOT have any special effect. Similarly for after the deck has been reshuffled.
9. Collaboration between players is not allowed. The penalty for collaborating with another player is three additional cards, which must be drawn immediately from the draw pile. Collaboration shall be determined by majority vote among the non-involved players. Tie vote to be decided by the House.
10. (Fumble Rule) Any player who commits a fumble (who shall be designated a Fumbler) shall be required to draw one penalty card from the draw pile. A fumble is defined as the inadvertent exposure of one or more of a player's cards. Examples include (but are not limited to) playing out of turn, playing the wrong card, or accidentally dropping a card face up on the table or floor. The penalty card may not be played until after the Fumbler discards at least one other card. The penalty card may be looked at by the Fumbler, but must remain face down on the table until the Fumbler has discarded another card.
Special case of the Fumble Rule: Drawing a card out of turn shall also be considered a Fumble. In this case, the accidentally drawn card shall be considered the penalty card, and placed face down to the Fumbler's left until the Fumbler has discarded another card.
Additional special case of the Fumble Rule: Giving away the identity of a player's own card verbally shall be considered a verbal or inferred fumble, known as a Furble. Furbles often occur in conjunction with collaboration between players. In such cases, the Furbler shall be penalized for both collaborating and Furbling.
11. (L's Rule) The dealer, after dealing, shall turn the first card over for play prior to placing the deck on the table. Failure to do so shall result in a one card penalty for the dealer. In the event the first card is a Joker, then the dealer must also turn up the next card before placing the deck on the table.
12. (M's Rule) If a player discards the third "of a kind" in a row (the third King, for example, or the third Joker) then that player is required to draw one additional card from the draw pile. The same applies to the fourth and subsequent "of a kind" discards. Note that this rule does not apply if the third "of a kind" card is the player's last card (the hand is considered over at the moment of discard). Additionally, if the third "of a kind" card is the player's penultimate card, then the player is not required to announce, "Last card." This rule does not apply in the event the deck is reshuffled before the third card is played.
13. (Grabby Hand Rule, provisional) If a player picks up another player's cards, either accidentally or on purpose, then the total point value of those cards shall be added to the offending player's points at the end of the hand. In addition, the offending player shall miss their next turn.
14. (Mojo Rule) Any person who willfully destroys, damages, or defaces the rules shall be dealt 8 cards (instead of 7) at the start of each hand for the rest of the evening and subsequent morning.
15. The House has the final, irrevocable say on all disagreements, disputes, and interpretations of the rules.

i like your bong.
----------
It's a five-pounder, made of thick glass which has so far proved to be unbreakable. Unlike all of its predecessors.

Hmm, I'll admit card games are fun after a few brews.
But as a post, they just suck. But I'm sure you've already guessed that from the reviews.
