Your uncle raises you from birth. You have nobody else, but he is enough. He is wealthy. He is charming. But he has a dark side. Every day he tells you about his former friend. He spits on the ground when he says his name. He insults him in every way possible. No death would be too good for this person. When they were still children, they had had a falling out. It was over a woman. And your uncle tells you about how this one-time friend had run away rather than fight him. He was a coward. He was a disgrace. He was a loser. The only recourse your uncle had was to face the jokes of his fellow towns people"The cuckolded one." "The impotent one." He heard them all. So your uncle became more and more bitter over the years. He withdrew from his neighbors. He had no one else to call a friend but you, his nephew.
Then that former friend, that enemy, comes back into your uncle's life. Your uncle sends you to get him. Later, he asks you to harass him. Why? Because your uncle wants that fight he never got--a fight that will put those demons to rest.
But the coward won't fight. He won't do anything but cause your uncle distress by his very presence. Your uncle's hate for him becomes your hate. You feel every pain your uncle felt. You want this scum dead. You want him more the dead, you want him erased from history.
Then the storm comes.
Your uncle asks you to go out and search for hurt people. But you're scared. It's a hurricane. You refuse. Now he is calling you the coward. And in a twist you could have never expected he sides with the man he had sworn to hate up to his last breath.
When the storm ends you run off. Get drunk. Get angry. And go back to settle the score. You can't get your uncle's new friend. But maybe you can take a few shots at his student, a smart-ass who has done nothing but insult you and poke fun at your little town every day he's been there.
You get the first punch in. Start really creaming this kid. Then your uncle, the man you've loved and sided with all your life, does the unthinkable.
He spins the drum.

This leads me to a question: if you have something you really like, but it's starting to break, so you buy a new one, but it won't make its way to you for another week, and your old one gets stolen, are you mad about it?

I never gave that much thought but that was a dick move on the part of the uncle.
He made that kid all bitter and evil and instead of helping him forgive he roots for Daniel-san to kick his ass.
cock.
It's depressing that the movies I grew up with are now on AMC and all my music is classic rock.
RATT is not classic rock!!

From wikipedia (Not a reliable source for much)
Ralph George Macchio (born November 4, 1961)is an American actor with Italian ancestry. He is best remembered for his role as Daniel LaRusso in the Karate Kid series.
----------
He was 23 when he did the first movie! I really feel old. I agree, RATT is not classic rock...but that is what is on the classic rock station these days. Even the "Oldies station" changed and they play 60's and 70's music now instead of 40/50/60's.

You saw this on AMC too? I turned it off after the first 10 minutes. I call it "Karate Kid 1 bonus footage"

all the kk movies are ridiculous. in the first one, all of daniel's new friends abandon him because a black belt showed up and rearranged his face. none of those other pussies would have had the balls to stank up to zabka. he should have gotten some serious street cred for that.
Then, at the Halloween dance, zabka nearly beats daniel to death. He enjoys it so much he says, "i'll decide when he's had enough!" then a month later he thinks elbowing his knee in a tournament would be going to far. wha?
personally, the third is my favorite. daniel is old enough to be a dad, but he is playing a 19-year-old. he has a really fat ass, yet wears the tightest jeans known to man. he completely ignores the tea ceremony/wedding commitment pact he made with his japanese flame the summer before so he can have this weird relationship with the girl from teen witch. he joins forces with vader, a.k.a. terry silver. and in the final tournament he wins on a technicality after being manhandled the whole time.

That was almost Kafkaesque at first. I thought the ending was a little disappointing, though. The student came out of nowhere and I have no idea what "spin the drum" refers to. Something in the Karate Kid, I take it.
