Let's fuck our own mouths!
I have been really thinking lately is this place needs to be packaged up better. The bad can often times overwhelm the good and that needs to change.
See, I'm a creative director - and by nature I see the vast potential of harvesting this particular collection of nerds for some highly entertaining nuggets of e-gold.
Actually... first of all - Bart, if that is your real name, you >gotta< be on board for this.
We can talk more about this off-line - but I would prefer to keep most of it transparent because Ultimately this will be about many of the people following along.
Ubersite is a little notorious... at least in our own eyes it is. Right now there is a only a smattering of faithful nerds remaining and a weak crop of 'noobs' and shitty alters...but it has yielded some incredible talent in the past and some pretty high traffic over the years and a lot of those individuals are still circling the body.
Creating a showcase area of the best, brightest and most fucked up this site has to offer is the obvious evolution to bring some of those contributers back, and ultimately reward everyone for their continued enthusiastic participation.
---
There would, of course, be absolute Editor's prerogative over all aspects of the magazine.
Bart - you would continue to have FULL control over all aspects of Ubersite and both sites would continue purely at you discretion and be hosted on your servers.
As for the people who sign up to be part of this new site - the authors and contributers that attract the post attention... and continue to be the most popular will recieve the most money made from any advertising this new site brings in.
(We can work out the particulars later.)
Quality will improve, moral will go up and people will start getting laid again.
I think this directory approach to the "good stuff", as it were, will serve to revive the site. Beef up the search tool and organize the "best ofs" a little better. (Perhaps create some new, custom lists.)
Wouldn't it be cool to see a massive migration of all the highly entertaining writers, artists, philosophers, teachers, entertaining idiots, comedians, and general jackasses that have already established their relative greatness on Ubersite?
Package up some classic submissions. Create and develop new and cool content.
I think we should create an online magazine.
Uber:The Magazine - All material copyrighted by its respective copyright holder, duh.
Editorials written by members of Ubersite ®. Original Reports and presentations kick ass bits of irrelevant nothingness all wrapped up in an existential blanket of kick ass also provided by those same members.
A distilled version of Uber's awesome.
(Actual magazine structure, design and participation will be determined at a later date.)
Mechanics-wise this new site would be essentially the same as posting on uber - although this site should offer some more editing power as not everyone will want to participate in rawness that is uber - so it will have a little more slick design and functionality.
As this whole "getting paid" concept is reliant on traffic, and the attractiveness of the volume of traffic viewing the various pages of the magazine.
If the numbers are there - the advertisers will pay the money. And we can pick and choose who we want to deal with. Autonomously.
Personally I think we only go with cool brands - or book and movie releases, or major pharmaceutical companies that are pandering a relatively harmless product and are willing to pay us massive amounts of money. We might deal with them.
Yup, this is the free market, folks. We will whore ourselves out for the mighty dollar, but we can sure have some fun doing it. We have the tools to capitalize on our God-given strangeness and inner nerd.
Bottom line is that Ubersite will still remain pretty much the same...save a couple cosmetic additions and the key to this symbiotic relationship is all articles posted on Uber:TheMagazine - are also posted on Ubersite with full commenting and ranking available. That way the site will still get its guaranteed injection of quality - and remain quite open for the random compliment of idiocy only ubersite can provide.
There will be NO comments on the Magazine site.
There will, however, be a link to the Uber posting of the article - but all discussion of the article remains Uber terrain.
We will not willingly or knowingly break any laws - all submissions are subject to potential quarantine and immediate removal. Full disclosure of name, IP address and mother's maiden name, maybe even a credit card will be required registration, finger print, blood type and a note from someone who loves you.
*There will be a section that will have auto-submission contributors - those that are trusted and obviously entertaining who will insert their own particular offerings into a constant feed. Controversial, opinionated, obnoxious, crude, vile, disgusting, funny, painful people will all have access to this outlet - just so long as you don't do anything illegal and get arrested, it's game on - and should prove to be very funny.
---
Anyway... I just though I would share with all of you something that has been running through my head for a while.
I have already purchased the domain UberTheMagazine.com - I'm happy to hand that over to you, Bart, as part of a deal.
Deal is: I'm the creative director of this new Magazine - I get significant creative influence and at least a little bit of control. You and I can work out the financial particulars in private - if you are interested. I think we can rock it out.
But, as I mentioned, this is also dependent on the active participation of you people following along.
Oh, and I think we could use that little window you have kicking out yahoo word ads to advertise the very best this site has to offer... and you can still serve up the Yahoo Ads... but I have a feeling that advertising the magazine and other targeted kick ass advertising will pull in even more money for you - and it gives the rest of us the opportunity for a taste.
It could fail - miserably. I'm just spit-balling here. Seems like a good idea in my brain.
What do you people think?
Would you like to play along? Wanna help? Contribute? Suck ass? Have some ideas?
I'll see you below.
(My apologies in advance for any typos, grammatical fuck ups, perceived arrogance and at least some of the unnecessary verbiage.)

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.
So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

OK, Rob, here's the deal: If you get this idea flying and talk Bart into whatever your ideas are to boost Uber, I will give you plus twos for life.
Uber needs help and everyone knows it.
You and I have a failure to communicate. I don't hate you, and I don't believe you hate me. No one likes to be called stupid or an idiot. Remember my first paragraph.

Isn't this what bored at work is?
---
NEEDS MORE ZING.
Some of the shit the folks around here come up with is fucking fantastic... there has to be some tangible way to harness it for capitalistic good!
Bored at work doesn't have any fancy advertising on it ... which is cool.
I mean - lets face it, the bored at work faithful are AT FUCKING WORK. Fancy wouldn't fly.
The fact that it's mostly text based allows it to be visited rather covertly throughout the work day. Same with Uber.
I get that... see that is why I'm suggesting we create a new monster, that has zing potential.

You know, rob, i know you think that getting together with your little clique of Caulaincunt and Phagnum and ripping on me all the time is somehow hurting me, but the truth is, i love it!
You and your pathetic posse of cyber bullies think you get me down, but the truth is this ubersite thing is just one microsecond in a life that is otherwise a big awesome cake with awesome topping on it.
Also, the fact that you took the time out of YOUR life to write that review while i just continued doing what i do, which is working as the extremely successful creative assistant of a small creative company, means that i win even more! I'm that awesome.
So, you and your ring of allies can call me all the names under the sun but if you think it breaks through my massive wall of awesome you are very mistaken.
In fact, almost the opposite! I love coming on here to share in the collective idiocy that is ubersite. This microcosmic community of jackasses, pseudo-intellectuals and genuinely nice and funny people wouldn't be what it is without the collective idiocy of people like you.
I love to think of you, hunched over your little computer in wherever it is you live while i spent most of my day working as the creative director of a large creative company and hanging out with loads of friends.
You see, Ubersite is only a tiny part of my day. I actually have a lot of friends and just enjoy coming on here now and again, for about 2 minutes at a time when i have time off being the creative CEO of a massive, international multi-milllion dollar creative company.
You see, ubersite is not that important to me, but i love the collective idiocy of this group of outcasts, cool cats and people i can genuinely call my friends so, as you sit around pondering for hours what angry little message you're going to write to me next, i just sit back in my castle of awesome, coming on uber about 30 seconds a week and taking in all the attention that you lavish on me.
Oh, so you call me an attention whore, but aren't you a little guilty of that too, rob? In fact, aren't we all? When you see my next plan for "Uberbook", a social networking site based on uber that i've already proposed to bart in my capacity of God of the worlds largest ever creative corporation, i think you'll see that trolls like you just provide material for me and all my successful uber friends to sit back and laugh at while we chew awesome gum in Awesomeville.
So, while you think you are upsetting me, i actually love it when i log on once every 6 months for 5 seconds at a time and see all the attention.
So, to you, Caul, Sphagnum, and all the other haters. Thankyou!
And to the rest of Uber:
<3
Of course. :)

I honestly think you're missing the point of this site. And before you begin, yes I know...Uber is what each and every one of us make of it.
I understand the logic behind your "vision." As a Creative Director with a great deal of Interactive experience at a successful agency here in NY myself, I see what you're proposing, and in truth, it could theoretically work. What I think your missing here is a simple marketing 101 concept - the 40/40/20 rule - 40% of your sucess will come from marketing to the "right" target audience. And while a case could supposedly be made that you do have the right audience (ie, Ubersite users)...they're really not. You're talking generally to bored kids in their mid 20's who don't have enough responsibility or experience in their current jobs to be of true value to their employers - meaning they're not quite at the level career-wise, for Uber to be a waste of time for them yet...but that happens to most everyone here. Some would argue that the "Uber Elite" (or those that posted with frequency) have moved on. But truthfully, they haven't moved on because Uber is shit now, they've moved on because bigger, better things have begun to occupy their lives (homes, family, real job responsibility). This turnover is enevitable and always cyclical.
That being said...if your motive here was to garner hits, generate discussion and occupy a "boring" day, you've succeeded. However, if it was truly to rally the troops and gauge interest in what could (arguably) be a worthwhile endeavor, then again...wrong audience. The motivation isn't there.
Just my take.
this is what I meant to say but couldn't be arsed.

It's a decent idea in theory, that's why it gets tossed around every few years. Last time around I think it was an Ubersite book or something.
In practice, though, the idea doesn't work. People like the Internet because it's a two-way street: they get to read, but they also get to contribute their own content and hear what others think of it. Sites that don't provide the ability to at the very least, comment on postings, usually have readers that come and read and leave, not users that visit day after day and drive traffic ratings up. There are a few exceptions, notably ones like Maddox's site, but those sites tend to have old-media level professional content (read: it are good stuff on them sites), and quite frankly, the user base of Uber probably wouldn't be able to generate enough quality material to keep people coming back to this new site you're proposing.
If you do get it off the ground, though, I'll write for you and you can use a fifty two cent stamp to send me the forty three cents of advertizing revenue I'm entitled to.

AAAAaaaad Bubba shows, once again, why he is commonly regarded as one of the stupidest motherfuckers on this entire site.
Uber is what it is - the idea here it to create a showcase site that would either stand on it's own or prove to be a gateway site into the sludge that continues to be infested with utter retards like you.

What is your obsessed hounding on this post besides pulling my digital pigtails? Hmmm?
OMG THAT IS A BAD IDEA. OH SURE LIKE THAT WILL WORK. YOU ARE GOING TO DO THAT? AHAHAHA FAIL! ROLFUCK!
Grow up.
---------------
Yes. Childish and stupid.
Hounding? These replies take all of 30 seconds to write.
You say you want to hear what people think but you refuse to answer any serious questions about your idea, you especially won't answer them unless people sugar coat their skeptisism and legitimate concerns.
You have offered no substantial reasons why someone would be more attracted to or like ubermag more than here. You have offered no real reason why people would stay on ubermag once they knew about this site.
When challenged on those things you resort to name calling and rant about how "at least my stick is on the ice" and how you are contributing to the world. You go back and forth between saying it was just a quick idea to saying you spent hours brainstorming on it.
It is a stupid idea. All the little add-ons that you want to put on have been done before (some have been done before on this site). And it is childish to think that people here are going to fall all over themselves to let you run it because of your claims of internet marketing experience (which is very doubtful given how poorly though out this plan is).

You spend an awful lot of time replying things like:
'Just sayin'
'not that bothered'
'its just an idea'
'hey its no biggie'
and then arguing like a desperate lunatic tightly holding onto a dying vision.
You also, in a couple of cases, announced that YOU would be willing to make so-and-so editor in chief or suggesting Jack The Cat Fucker should be head honcho... it's pretty big of you to offer jobs to people for something that doesn't exists and even if it did there's no saying you'd even be in involved let alone in charge.
Rob, I like you... but here's the thing... I read this post and reviews straight through in one sitting (having visited the site for the first time since Monday)... and YOU SOUND DESPERATE. You have attacked everyone who disagrees with this idea or desperately clung onto any user (and I think I only count 2) who does agree or repeated the same argument over and over.
Random Uber user : 'Its a crap idea and it won't work'
Rob Berg : 'Hey man it's just an idea... i'm just shooting the breeze here...I know it needs some work man... but with my SKILZZ it'll work, just sayin' like'
Random Uber user 2 : 'This has been tried before and failed'
Rob Berg : 'Hey man it's just an idea... i'm just shooting the breeze here...I know it needs some work man... but with my SKILZZ it'll work, just sayin' like'
Random Uber User 3 : 'Its not new and we already have Bored at Work and look what happened to Uber.fm FFS'

there are other sites that do that, and i can tell you that the writers earn fucking nothing, and even then its not about 'quality' as such, but rather about those who socially network the most to encourage people to casually click on their post to inflate the hit counters.
i just dont think that business model is particularly successful, but who knows.
I, however, remain - due to habit and experience - skeptical. i will, however, offer whatever of my 'classic iddqd' (as you put it) posts that may be deemed worthy (with an edit and a polish of course), and whatever new stuff i still do think of but dont bother writing if this idea gets off the ground THIS time.

ok, engaging in yet another discussion about this fucking site...
this idea has come up in various incarnations a few times before.
ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. simple as that.
the consideration is a waste of time, it involves a lot of effort from a number of people, as well as the simultaneous cooperation from a number of others. give that 98.9472% of this site is comprised of arseholes, this spells doom for any concerted effort at creating an enterprise from the muckheap.
aside from these and other related issues, which could conceivably be overcome; there is a simple hard truth that you and others might have to accept:
quite simply, IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PAY FOR.
there are literally thousands of people around the world peddling shit like the 'best' of this site everyday for free, for internet celebrity or even less, for just the hell of it - and theyre doing it every damn minute of every damn day.
honestly, stick to your day job.
---
wow, cool.
I actually agree with your concerns, but I'm a little more optimistic than you about things in general and I think the percentage of assholes is significantly lower... yet still quite high.
But that is part of it's charm, no?
Look, I've said this before: if the volume of people increases and there is significant traffic - a well designed site with innovative and cool advertising opportunities will be very valuable.
I mean someone like you and your stockpile of posts - what would be the downside to migrating what you felt were you best posts to this new magazine site and becoming a featured contributer?
Then - lets just assume because of the high quality and marketing efforts put forth by the good people running the site (because it is in our best interests to see the traffic increase) they end up seeing some good rotation and you actually receive a payment on a semi-regular basis based on your percentage of traffic.

ok, engaging in yet another discussion about this fucking site...
this idea has come up in various incarnations a few times before.

Um, Pandora - I appreciate the input - and I am certainly glad you read what I put out there but I know full well Bart doesn't hold the copyright - but as he can unplug ubersite any time he wants that makes him the 'gatekeeper'.
The entire reason I am bringing this up in a public forum is to gauge the interest of the copyright holders to participate in something a little more formal.
...but gawd-damm I do like mah weed.

I get paid just fine I don't need this sort of addition.
Also...is Bart god? Does his opinion of this idea weigh heavier than anyone elses? If you thought this was such a good idea why not just do it...there is no one and nothing stopping you from making a site on your own and copying all the uber material you want.
---
Bart is the gate keeper of the Ubersite content. All material copyrighted by its respective copyright holder, duh.
---------------------------------
Motherfuck... THE WRITERS OF THE POSTS ARE THE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS, NOT BART!!! How can you be an artist and not understand this? I realize that copyright laws vary in different countries, but in the United States, any "intellectual property" that is created by an artist, writer, or whoever, is AUTOMATICALLY PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT LAW UPON CREATION, UNLESS THE CREATOR DECIDES TO PASS ON THE OWNERSHIP OF SAID PROPERTY TO ANOTHER PARTY. Bart does not own any of the material on this site unless it was sold or expressly given to him along with the copyright. WTF have you been smoking? Oh wait, here's a clue:

Yours, because you always generate controversy (and it's fun and easy to break your balls)...people like Simon, because I don't normally have the opportunity to encounter douchebags of such great magnitude (even funnier that he is utterly and completely unaware of this fact), Muddy, because he seems like the most down to earth "gets it" guy around, and Shlongy, because he's old school, from my hometown, and is consistently hilarious.
It's a decent idea, Rob. My guess is that you make very good money concepting ideas for appreciative clients. But I'd also guess that the vast majority of these clients aren't 26 year old kids doing tactical work for companies who are literally willing them to stop showing up houng over and begging them to actually begin applying themselves.
What I think your missing here is a simple marketing 101 concept - the 40/40/20 rule - 40% of your success will come from marketing to the "right" target audience.
---
I definitely see your points, and agree with most of them.
I guess I just find myself coming back to the idea that more people would appreciate the unique (and often fucked up) magic that is this website if it was packaged up in a different way. I understand what you mean when you say that 'Uber is shit' because I have seen the kind of stuff that was produced a few years ago - and one thing that still attracts people to the site is discovering those old gems and digging around the archives for other similar treasures.
But there is still some magic in this old hat... and people are posting great stuff all the time. Some of it is missed. (perhaps that can be another section - posts that deserve more attention?)
Besides, I think those people are still around - but like you said otherwise distracted with far more important things. This could be an opportunity to stoke up their own creative fires.
Of course, it might not - but I think it's worth the shot.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to make this comment... and I assure you this is not to garner 'hits' - I just get an idea in my head and tend to roll with it... a bit OCD and ADD.

discussion per se is a good thing.
I used the wrong word. Not being open to differing viewpoints/opinions isn't true discussion, it's just defending your idea.
if it's so brilliant, just do it. Like you said - you're spending the time on it anyhow - why not have something more to show for it than a few hits?
---
I'm not sure I am following your train of though Crystle.
I don't know where you get the impression I am not open to differing viewpoints/opinions. If anything I welcome then - encourage them... but I would just like them to be helpful and at least cordial. I don't think that is so unrealistic.
This is still Uber, of course, and one can't pass up some prime opportunities for a little grandstanding, and I do like my meaningless scraps.
As I read this back I DO have more to show for it than a few "hits" - I think more about it, my ideas are expressed, refined, other people are able to read over those ideas - form their own and (hopefully) add to them.
Caring about hits and ratings is silly - if you think I am actually concerned with either of them you are mistaken... but you wouldn't be the first.

instead of arguing, just do it. if it's viable, it'll work, if not, it'll flop. no discussion needed.
---
But Crystle, my dear, discussion is not a bad thing.
In order for this particular idea to work the way I see it at least a good chunk of the uber 'elite' will have to at least express some fleeting interest and Bart needs to be on board.
I have many ideas, and lots of things in the hopper - this one just happens to be the most interesting one I have had recently.
It is one thing for an idea to flop... but if I am going to invest time, resources, favors, money, and creative energy I want to see a little more enthusiasm and pledges of support.
If I don't, I'll move on to the next idea.no biggie - it's time I would have wasted anyway.

I don't know that it's a bad seed for an idea. You'd probably want to focus on differentiating it from ubersite proper; i.e. what does it do that ubersite doesn't? Right now, it sounds like a condensed sattelite version of uber; various editors picks sans comments (or comments only allowed by certain users perhaps). I could see this providing uber proper some extra hits, but would it be more than uber already gets on its own? And would it be something that's maintained regularly, or would it get a little initial participation boost, then peter out like uber.fm?
My suggestion would be to develop the idea and really focus on what would make it different from other sites. Maybe even slip cable from uber itself and do your own thing with the participation of a few of the willing you've drummed up around here. If you needed any coding help, I'd lend a hand.
---
Thank you sir.
Good advice indeed.
Perhaps I need to do up some initial design work on what I envision the site to be. It makes sense in my head, but it is probably not coming out that clear... plus who wants to slog through the usual combative bullshit that gets dumped on me just for being me.
I see this new site being VERY maintained - daily, in fact.
I see things like a section for the funniest picture I have ever seen right now (updated constantly... with an archive - I know some sites have been created on this concept, but for the magazine it would be a tiny little section.)
Maybe a Comment of the day? Post of the week? I see fun interactive polls and the sky is the limit when it comes to interactivity and functionality - we have all kinds of writers who show up here everyday - surely they can take some time to creatively fuel some zany shit for a site that will ultimately benefit their own online experience. Highlighting and showcasing the genius that spills out into this website every day... and I know it doesn't happen all the time but that is the magic of having the HISTORY of this site as a mine shaft.
I would love to get a group of interested uber contributers to give directed, organized commentary on the state of the world and the random weird stories that trickle in.
Everyone seems to like those "-2s that deserve +2 posts" - well we could have an ongoing section that highlights those.
Maybe this is something that is done outside of uber... but don't let it ever be said that I didn't give all of the people following along a chance to participate and contribute.
yeesh, I gotta get some work done.
Thanks man, I didn't realize how much I needed some positive feedback.

Putting your stick on the ice is one thing, but you're throwing it into the deep end of the lake with weights on.
I know there isn't a chance in the world that I'm irrelevant. I've got legions of fans, every one of them willing to die upon my command. I'm sure of it. Then again, as I've said before, my talent isn't on trial here. The fact that you can't come up with anything better is dissappointing.
You've still got your panties in a bunch because you lost an argument on the internet and I called you out on it. Here's some advice: Change your tampon, because you're bleeding everywhere.
Honestly, if you can't grow up about it, then I'll simply be done with you.

Rob, I'm being honest here and not nasty. This is futile at best, with people that don't really care to invest so much as 3 minutes on a post here why would anyone put effort there?

This is comedy gold. Simon saying "it's only a webpage" is like Russel Crowe giving anger management advice or the fat loser who spends 16+ hours a day on World of Warcraft handing out dating tips.

Rob, I'm being honest here and not nasty. This is futile at best, with people that don't really care to invest so much as 3 minutes on a post here why would anyone put effort there? If money is your incentive you are going to need something more to attract people than a talent laden e-zine (don't worry, no one has ever tried to do this).
Once again not being mean...this is slated for failure. Might I suggest that you go back to the drawing board and don't hatch some finger tapping diabolical plan for instant success, suggest yourself to be the "leader," and then present it to uber with hopeful expectations? If I may (once again not being mean) it seems that you are quite upset that no one is agreeing with you. So upset in fact that you've argued or tried to argue your point's validity with every single person that's commented here.
Are you too proud to admit defeat or flaw? Fuck, even an egotistical idol like myself can admit that.
That's it for me. I'll be taking another two weeks because of you.
---
I appreciate that Simon.
I readily admit this could be slated for disaster - but the drawing board is right here, in real time.
The talent is HERE. They are already published, and popular. But if I can't attract them with money - then there really is nothing more I can do is there? They already have internet infamy.
I am open to any and all ideas that will make this better. I think in order for this endeavor to be successful it needs someone to helm it - I nominated myself because I rock, but I KNOW other people out there who will make this better just through their participation.
I'm not that upset, of course it would be awesome if this was much better received, but this IS Ubersite, after all.
Perhaps the site has degenerated past the point where something like this could work.
Maybe it's a shit idea.

I have to add that I like uber because of the lack of gratuitous pictures and flash animation.
Being largely text based makes it easy to surf at work.
I absolutely wouldn't be in any way interested in a "magazine" version.
Also, Hadley would just break it - like pH.
---
I don't really think anything should be changed about Ubersite itself - the flash animation integration I am talking about has more to do with posting .swfs - there has to be some way of making that process better than launching a new window.
Maybe I'm wrong. (Heck, I probably am.)

See, the idea would be to aggressively expose a new audience to the magical bits of ubersite without all the riff raff scaring them away.
-----------------
You are still on about this?
I know it is tough for you top pull your head out of your ass and think like a grown up, but give it a try just for a minute.
1. How would you get all these people to become rabid readers of Ubermag? If you were to direct them from here, they wouldn't go.
2. If you come up with some magical scheme to get people to stop over on uber mag, what is going to stop them from coming here? Even if they don't want to comment nothing you have offered will be an improvement over the comments, especially if they have to look at a cluttered up addridden abortion of website.
But there I go again being a cranky fuck by not closing my eyes and pretending with a little hard work (babbling on the internet) and cooperation (sending <3's and thank you's to anyone who doesn't -2 this post, while ignoring any real questions) it will be a money maker.

See, the idea would be to aggressively expose a new audience to the magical bits of ubersite without all the riff raff scaring them away.
Of course most of us either enjoy the riff-raff - or ARE the riff-raff and don't see the point of a new symbiotic site - but the chaotic, random nature of this website annoys, intimidates and disgusts people every day. The magazine would serve as a sanitary(ish) gateway to the murky depths of uber.
Which is why it is vital to maintain that link... because in many ways Uber is what inspires those people to be funny, interesting and otherwise relevant.
The little talking heads of TTOM are fucking pure genius, but with out this site as context most of the humor is lost.
It's a delicate balance - but certainly not impossible to maintain - but it would be tricksy.

In case you missed it, this was talked about already, on a much less crappy scale.
You've also said this already. Quit talking about this place and actually write something. Something that DOESN'T have to do with this website.
I could have sworn you've said 85% of this already, and the 15 that you didn't cover, someone else already has.
---
I did miss it - one would think you might have more compelling and substantial commentary to offer if that was the case.
But you don't.
That's ok, you are little more than a deluded nerd with only marginal creative ability. It would be unlikely you would make much of an impact when competing with much more talented contributers, but you would likely be offered chance to prove yourself.
I might have said 85% of it before, I doubt it - but you have a bug up your ass for some reason and I can't be fucked to figure out why.
Piss off, meat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why waste my time with quality commentary when the intention of the commentary will be completely ignored.
Not counting this, the last five posts in some way involve this site. Under a search specific to your name, "Ubersite" comes up seven times under the subject line, and 13 times in the body. That's around 9% of your entire body of work here, not counting the other posts that involve this place without using the name of the website. A good portion of it is of substantially lower quality than I'd expect of someone of your supposed talents, of which I assume lack of practice is the reasoning behind it.
My creative ability isn't on trial here. It is on my posts, but not here. You're trying to equate my lack of entertainment with your posts as a failing on my part, when it is the responsibility of the writer to make something worthwhile.
It's not that I've got a bug up MY ass, it's that you're letting me down. You're becoming a gradual dissappointment, and aren't doing a damn thing to improve.
Get bent, supposed "artist."

Sure its a website.
But I don't see how this idea is flawed. There are holes in it - granted, and it certainly relies heavily on the cooperation of some pretty belligerent self-important nerds, but that is more of a challenge than a flaw.
There is TONNES of content already available to the authors that decide to sign up - simply leveraging past glory would keep interested readers occupied for hours - if not DAYS. Updating and adding to those stories and philosophies and general insanity would be optional - but wouldn't it be cool to know that the time you spent fucking around MIGHT be worth something extra?
I am not suggesting this is something that would end the need for people to work real jobs, but as a paid supplement? For time already wasted?
How can that be a bad thing?

Only sold to churches and small businesses.Lists, labels,

...will Bart make money on serving them up. I'm sure he does make some money but the people who come here are a little more savvy than that I hope you would agree.
Now - go over to a site like TMZ and just look at the integration of MASSIVE advertising that is done there. I'm not saying it needs to be to that extreme... but you can be sure the people who started that are making some serious money.
The money potential is there, trust me... but only if we get the talent on board.

Once again how the fuck is it a good idea (except for you since you would get paid for minimal work)?
There is no new content there.
They can get it here for free and comment with smaller ads.
Do you really think your gay little graphics will outweigh the use and viewing of comments?
Do you think they will attract a huge internet following?
How exactly do you think this will attract enough viewers to make enough money so it is attractive for posters to write "good" material more often?
I find it next to impossalbe that someone with any experience in marketing would spend hours brainstorming about this and then shit out, or more accurately (since it isn't original), regurgitate an idea this bad.

Meh. Doesn't this kinda go against the spirit of Ubersite? I'm just saying...
---
Perhaps. That is a good argument.
It's just when you look at magazine sites that exist out there - I think one powered by this dysfunctional community would be hilarious and vastly entertaining.
I just don't know. I just thought I'd fling some poo on the wall and see what stuck.

I can't say I feel strongly about it... I mean it's a good idea with some solid potential - but we are talking about accomplishing something on Ubersite here - my expectations are realistic even if I seem overly enthusiastic.
From this initial reaction it doesn't look like there is enough traction or interest at this stage so my attention is waning. Perhaps someone better with words will take up the cause one day - or maybe like a small turd falling down a mountain of shit this will slowly gather momentum.
Either way it's out there in the ethos now. We'll see what happens.

Uber:TheMagazine would be a separate entity - but still largely controlled and maintained by Bart.
Ubersite would remain the same - although I would suggest a little design update and some better flash implementation

I just came up with an idea on how to leverage it - it requires the participation of those people... but as Ubersite is his, and exists at his discretion his participation is absolute.
I am convinced the selling feature will be the people themselves... and there will always be that direct link to Ubersite from the magazine - so elevated traffic on that side will mean more people exposed to the shitbox that is Ubersite - causing more idiocy and increased creative energy leading to a resurgence of Ubersite.
Or nothing will happen and this was just an impractical suggestion. Meh.

No real reason as to why they think its a bad idea, just a general feeling that I'm an idiot.
Fair enough. This new site will require enthusiasm from the Uber'elite'. If there is interest and active participation then it will work.
My guess is it will be more like herding kittens... which is why I ruled out a larger democracy.
This NEEDS to have direction and someone making the decisions at the highest of levels... but it will be nothing without the talent.

How much functionality and usability frame work is really needed in a site where you can't leave comments?
I am really curious here, what percent of the profit do you think you would deserve for picking good posts and slapping a few graphics on the user tags? Why do you think people would continue to go to the magazine with big ads and no comments if they could come here? Why do you need these simple flaws pointed out to you.

You look at your already significant participation in ubersite as time well wasted and don't want the opportunity to get paid for past contributions.
Hey, as I said - this is only an idea. Bart could think this whole thing is stupid and just ignore it. It will fade away and perhaps nothing will come of it.
I'm not going to waste too much time on this, if there is traction - great. If not, c'est la vie.

So instead of using all that knowledge of strategic planning for interactive ventures and all the skill that allowed you to work along recognized brands to create something new unique, you want to piggy back on Bart's work and the contributions of Uberusers. You want to repackage it and have "creative control" so you can get name recognition for their work, without really doing anything.
I am glad you think stealing Bart's idea and the work of others is voluntary. As far as that downside, "I'm the creative director of this new Magazine - I get significant creative influence and at least a little bit of control." Why would people want to put an asshat like you in charge?
---
No no no, Creative control over the look and feel of the site. Authors would get full recognition for their own work - all page views will be recorded and rewarded.
My expertise will come in to play in creating the frame work, brainstorming and implementing the functionality and usability that will make the site interesting and intuitive. It's a new site, but powered by the people that myself and Bart feel are the funniest and most entertaining.
This is a business venture - it is being done in a transparent way. I'm not stealing anything, assface. That is why I made this post. This will only work with the willing participation of all interested parties.
Thing is, I don't think you have much to offer beside what you are doing right now. Your devil's advocacy can help illustrate any wholes or flaws in logic I am definitely going to have.
Which would actually make you quite valuable... even if you are really just trying to be a douche.

i just have other things to do than this site...even when wasting time at work my time on this specific site is minimal because frankly its lost its allure for me. I don't want the attention like I once did and the entertainment value isn't there.
Many of the people that used to contribute to this place an make it worthwhile have moved on and only stop in briefly to see if there is anything interesting.
The sites peak value has come and gone, sorry to say, and is now just a quick hit stop.
---
You are missing the bigger picture. I want to give those people a reason to stay. YOU should want to give them a reason to stay.
Of COURSE you have other things to do. Thinking this is all anyone does is shortsighted and naive.
Anyone who would be invited to contribute to the magazine will be a dynamic, talented, interesting individual who already has scads of kick ass posts.
Think of this as more of a "best of" site ... with any commenting being funneled back here.
New talent comes along, registers at Uber - proves themselves to be awesome - they become a contributer to the magazine and share in the ad revenue.
Ubersite would also become a farm team... along side whatever it is to the people that come here.
The more traffic the magazine side gets (and it can be mainstream because all content will be properly labled and filtered for it relative awesome) the more lucrative advertising will become to those businesses interested in targeting the sort of folks that are bored at work.

I'm talking about creating a new, enhanced 'distilled' version of the Uber goodness that we all know and love/hate.
Jesus, I would think someone like you would be at least mildly intrigued.
I mean any of you folks who are banned or lose and account and find yourselves desperate to come back certainly understand and appreciate the allure of this dump.
Hey, I'm just as happy to continue using Uberstie as a sandbox and things go on status quo - but I see the power in leveraging the chaotic goodness that is this website and it's vast collection of uber-tards to make everyone who participates in the new site some money.
It might not be much - and certainly not to start. But there is gold in them thar hills. I've seen it. I've contributed to it.
Just think of all the BAMF goodness that you could cherry pick if you become a contributing columist. Only the BEST of the stuff you have put up. Same basic format as Uber - but with more polish and zip.
I provide creative and strategic planning for interactive ventures. I have worked in advertising for over 6 years and have been a flash animator for over 10. I have worked with some of the most recognized brands in the world and along side some incredible talent.
I know people... this could be totally kick ass - and unique. Much like this site.
If there is no traction here - so be it. As I said, it's just an idea. But it will need to be championed by the talented, thoughtful, intelligent, genius types that power this place.

Also don't we already have Bored at Work?

And let's not forget UBER.FM, either.

I actually had to read that a few times before I caught that.
this is what happens when I glance at uber between writing about boresighted camera's for work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That happens to me all the time... Those pesky boresighted camera's.
It made me smile for the first time today though, so thanks.

Wait, you are seriously asking bart to let you take over his sight so you can do a little polishing on it and make money?

Giving ANYONE your eyeballs is foolish, indoninja, not just rob.

Rob Berg
http://www.ubersite.com/u/rob_berg
Dear Mr. Berg,
We appreciate you applying for the position of Total Fag.
We interviewed many applicants in the job search process and narrowed the field down to two : Yourself and 8bithero. Whilst you have many fag like qualities you are simply not as gay or faggy as 8bithero.
Thus we will not be offering you the position, but thank you for your interest.
In the future you could supply us with photos of you deepthroating random men (as 8bithero did) to show your dedication to your chosen lifestyle
If a need arises for us to contact you in the future, we will do so and you have our continued good wishes.
Very truly yours,
Ubersite

We appreciate you applying for the position of Editor in Chief of Ubersite.

Thus we will not be offering you the position, but thank you for your interest.
If a need arises for us to contact you in the future, we will do so and you have our continued good wishes.
Very truly yours,

Bargaining with Bart is pointless as is your idea presented here. There's more to life than this site but before you get all huffy and pissy....what would your idea accomplish? Everyone signs up, everyone gets paid based on traffic...you make 30¢, I make 15¢, and so on. It's not really worth it but give it a shot and I'd might consider it.
