I don't post often because, quite frankly, I simply can't be assed to do so most of the time. However, I'm here today on important Uber business.

For those of you who are unaware, we here at Uber like to compile a horrendous encyclopedia of sorts composed of the hideous visages of those who, for unfathomable reasons, enjoy frequenting this place.

I guess it's that time of year to call out for any and all who are interested in being a part of Uber History to submit your most flattering camwhores.

On to better things. There are a few ways you can be included:
1.) The I Need Instant Gratification as Well as Inclusion in the Greater Project Method - Post a camwhore of your choosing on the front page. Appropriately title this as 'uberdirectory camwhore' or something of that nature so that I don't overlook it and have to hear you whine about it later.
2.) The Lazy Asshole Method - Link here to a post which includes a camwhore you'd like included.
3.) The Super Secret Method - email an image of your kind and lovely face to uberdirectory2008.at.gmail.com
The only people I'll bother tracking down images of are the MVA, so if you want to be included do one of those three things I listed above, eh.
That's the whole deal.
We'll let this stew for a few weeks and once everyone has had time to get a shot to me one way or the other, I'll start putting the whole thing together. Complete with fancy colour borders and exciting fonts. Look for it sometime in June.
Well, I'm bored with this, I got all the relevant info out there (I think) and I poked at Jack.

For consistency at the chosen speed you need to make sure the hurling mechanism (whatever you've got for that) doesn't slow down much when it engages and throws the ball of whatever weight the ball has. Mass is the key here. The mass of the hurling mechanism should be much greater than the mass of the heaviest ball. Torque=mass*angular acceleration. More mass=less slowing of the mechanism when the ball is launched=more consistent pitch speed.
To adjust the speed, you can do it with the motor directly or via an intermediate drive. If you're using a single phase 120VAC motor at about 2HP (and I think you are), you can probably use a frquency control to control the motor. They're not cheap. The motor's too big for a rheostat if you want it to last. The better way to do it is to use an intermediate drive with multiple ratios and adjust the ratio when you want to change speeds. Easy ways to do this: buy a junk benchtop drill press with a bad motor from a pawnshop or used tool place and rob the 5-ratio belt drive from the motor and spindle, or (if you can orient it vertically like the position it was desined to operate in) use the sprockets and derailleur from the crankset and rear wheel of a pawnshop mountain bike. Drill press is slower in speed changes but probably safer, more versatile, and more reliable. Bike gives you far wider/more sensitive and easier speed adjustment.
I'd like to see this machine once you've got it built. Sounds pretty cool.

i have a question for you. i'm building a pitching machine using an electric motor from an old chipper/shredder. i need something to govern the speed up or down for when i set it to pitch slowpitch softball/baseball/fastpict softball speeds and to hold the motor at that steady speed.
