Yes creep, plyometrics come into it too. And the karate keeps me nimble. And as far as shaking hands goes, my father has been in the scrap-metal industry for 30 years, and although he's in his 50's, he has the grip of a bear. Resistance training is the only way to go to develop lean, efficient muscle muscle, as you have stated with several exercises.

I throw sandbags, hit the heavy bag, use plyometric workouts, and grapple with people bigger/stronger/faster than me. But I do it to be a better fighter. I'm pretty enough already. Beach muscle would do me no good.
Besides, have you ever shaken hands with an old man that's been doing masonry his whole life? It's like shaking hands with steel cables. That old man can rip your lat-blasting ass apart like loaf of fresh-baked French bread. That's far more respectable.

Muscle bulk is used to stop forceful impacts. Shim Bu kai karate is full of foreceful impact, however is also a method of teaching self defense / offense.
Ergo, i could kick the shit out of someone, take a few punches to the ribs, and come out smiling :)

D.H Mountain Bikes with a club, and <3 weights @ gym 10 hours a week. 4.5% bodyfat doesnt come naturally, as well as muscle bulk / definition.
