of course a random selection is likely to garner that sort of post. I think there WAS more gold but because there were more posters and more posts there was a lot of drivel too. as for the attention received by those posts... because there were more posts you either had to have something brilliant, be a recognized user or both in order to really get attention because there were more posts in a day than would fit on the front page so sometimes stuff would slide right down the page.
