The entertainer Frank Sinatra died in Los Angeles of a heart attack aged 82 14th May 1998.
He died in the emergency room of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife Barbara, and other family at his bedside.
Sinatra has not been seen in public since a heart attack in January 1997, and had been in and out of the hospital several times since then sparking speculation and rumors of inoperable cancer and any other number of ailments.
Thought to be still born Sintra it seemed came out fighting from the start. A quick douse under the cold tap by his Grandfather and he was alive and kicking (literally). The only child of Italian immigrants.
Deciding early in life that he would follow in the footsteps of his hero Bing Crosby he dropped out of school and went a'singing and a'dancing.
Harry James discovered him working as an occasional waiter come singer at a restaurant in Englewood and decided that Frank would make the ideal lead singer for his band The Music Makers.
Developing his 'crooner' style throughout the early 40's he soon had an array of teenage fans and after a couple of band changes had a solo career in sight.
He recorded his first hit in 1939 although this wasn't ultimately released until 1943. In '46 he signed a contract with MGM and shelved singing for a stint in the acting sector, ultimately acting with the likes of Gene Kelly and staring in films such as The Manchurian Candidate and Guys and Dolls.
After signing for Capitol in 1953 he re-focused on his signing and hooked up with Nelson Riddle who would arrange such albums as Songs for Young Lovers, A Swingin' Affair, Come Fly With Me, Swing Easy, In the Wee Small Hours, and Songs for Swingin' Lovers.
Singing, acting and TV work were not his only forte when he proved himself as a businessman in 1961 setting up his own record label Reprise Records.
Retiring in 1971 Frank was only away from the scene for a few years as the 1973 release of Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back proved. Many sporadic TV and film appearances continued throughtout the remainder of the 70's and 80's
1988 saw the ugely successful Rat Pack reunion tour with Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin with Liza Minnelli replacing Martin after he pulled out.
Two album releases - Duets I and Duets II - saw the 90's off with his ultimate death of heart failure.

I was wondering why Sinatra hasn't been seen in public since this day in 1998.
Now I know.

You spell like old people fuck. :)
Sinatra didn't have the finest voice of any singer, but as a stylist he was almost unmatched.
