This just gave me a giggle. Seriously, that much angst over someone on the internet being mean? The world isn't gonna miss that twat.

I'm making this a +1, next time just CCP the article.

And your judgment. You got Darwinism right, but misspelled believe and affecting. But at least you're aware of the problem.

Hilarious! We should have a contest here where people are paired up and they try to drive each other to suicide, using only words and pictures.

Just another case of kids not being able to distinguish between reality and the internet.

Here's my thoughts on the matter.

1) A 13 year old can be charged as an adult for murder in Missouri. Therefore, a 13 year old is an adult in Missouri. As all parties were adults, there is no real crime.

2) Lori Drew (the lady being slammed on this) did not do any of the following:
a. Set up the myspace account
b. Send the bulk of the messages through the myspace account
c. Send the message that the world would be better off without that ultra-late-term abortion
2.1) Why is she the only one charged?

3) The law being used to charge Lori Drew is being horribly applied. This is very not good for all of us, folks. Most of us didn't give our real names, cities, states, or zip codes at sign up. Technically, we could each be charged if we actually drove one of our own to suicide.
3.1) This is because a TOS for a website is essentially a contract between the site's owner and the user. Any violation of that TOS should be a civil matter. Making it criminal is a huge mistake.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You left out my personal favorite:

4) Lori Drew is being charged in California for something she did in Missouri to a girl in her neighborhood. I'm not saying she should get off the charges, I'm just saying it's stupid the way they are working this around.

That's like someone jumping out in front of a car to commit suicide, and then the family of that person trying to bring the driver of that car under charges in Michigan because the car was built in Detroit.

In the future all website servers will be located on ungoverned Islands so that people can't be prosecuted by the state the server is located in.

there's rarely a good reason to kill yourself. grief over death i can kind of understand, but it can't be sibling death or 90-year-old-parental death. spouse death after x years of marriage, with x being greater than 30 works. also, losing your family in a natural disaster/car crash/bombing fits.

persistent pain is probably the best reason. that would include migraines that never go away, drug-resident neuropathy.

myspace pain? eesh.

I'm very certain this won't go far, but Ms Drew will have her reputation (and her career, professional life, etc.) damaged for the rest of her life. I'm actually satisfied with that.

I agree what HTBD, she absolutely should not be brought up on criminal charges.

the one who set the account up probably IS an uber member. See someone dumb, weak, silly, brown, gay, or helpless? Attack them for your own entertainment, chronicle it, and then post it.

isn't that how uber works?

+1 for prompting some discussion below.

Fuck everyone involved. Especially the FBI and the US Attorneys who decided that this was a good idea.

As much as I want to say that the Drew woman is a right cunt, a pathetic excuse for a human preying on a child, a moron with no moral fiber or decency, which she is, I can't say that she should be held responsible for the death. The girl did, after all, kill herself in her parent's home.

Mom, Dad, where the hell were you?

And why weren't you watching those messages? Screening them? Etc.?

All in all, this entire story was ridiculous and shouldn't have happened in the first place. I have very little sympathy for any party involved.

If the parent's had been monitoring the myspace account closely then their daughter shouldn't have hung herself. The parents shouldn't have let the girl have a myspace in the first place. The woman being charged should not care if another girl is being mean to her daughter. The girl who killed herself probably shouldn't have been treated for ADD and depression as that's a phase all pre-teen and young teenage girls go through.

Everyone needs someone to blame because it's easier to point a finger than it is to admit you fucked up.
