I needed red sox fans to keep this thing on the front page. Like Randy's ability to lay supine when threatened, it was my only defense.

MLB is a poorly run organization.. but that doesn't mean i don't love baseball.
and to you buttheads across the ocean, baseball is as dumb to you as cricket or soccer is to (most of) us..
such a stupid arguement.

I disagree. Bowling in cricket is much harder than pitching in baseball. There are factors you can't control, cracks in the ground and what not, whereas baseball is just chucking in a straight line.
what kind of idiot are you, cricket is nothing but throwing in a straight line at the ground. in baseball you cannot be successful if you don't put several inches of curve on even your fastball, classically the straightest pitch of them all. the best curveballs break 10-15 inches and the best sliders have 8-10 inches of wicked horizontal movement. not to mention these pitches are thrown at 70-100 miles per hour. and still the margin of error is so slim that no-hitters rarely happen. I hope an american rapes you with a wicket

Well done. You've managed to make a picture mean nothing to me but clicks and whistles, something I'd only previously experienced when I accidently visited the Guggenheim in New York.

i'm pretty sure that i'd only give up a couple hits against the Royals, myself.
and it's the RedSox.
and boshman is going to come in here and call me a bearfucker.
still, it's a baseball post and i need to support this fine sport and its fans against the heathen masses in every way i can. grudging +2. let's never talk about this again.

I got to see Buchholz throw his no-hitter last year, and that was a great night.
This kid's a real success story, coming back from cancer to close out the World Series and then tossing a gem like this. Good for him.

Also, I wish his middle name were Maurice.

Good for him. I'm glad sickboy did so well. After his rather rocky start to this season, I'm happy to see him pitch this well. Its a huge confidence boost for him and I hope he continues to play well.
I think I'm going to the game today to see Masterson pitch. I dont know why but I felt compelled to share that.

---------------------------
that seems to make the point that baseball is more skill based, less luck based. And if they are just chucking it in a straight line, shouldn't it be easier to hit, making the achievement all the greater?

So he chucked a ball well 50 odd times? Big deal, the highest number of consecutive maiden overs in cricket is 21 (126 balls without a run) which is more impressive I think.
_________________________
He threw it 130 times without a run.
So if a pitch = a ball, this is a greater accomplishment.
Also, there is a longer streak for most consecutive pitches without a hit and/or run too that spanned different games...Webb had a 47 inning streak, which is roughly 500-600 pitches without giving up a run.

i don't know how many pitches he threw, but over 9 innings it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to have thrown 120-140 pitches.
