empty eyed skulls dripped red,
waxy residue of minutes passed
and the flame sputters with the
wind from an open window.
trumpets play from stereo speakers
while cigarettes and punk sticks burn
wisps of scent floating outside, and
the whole room smells so sweet.
a thrift-store suit and hand-stitched gown,
two outcasts dancing alone at home,
open a bottle of bourbon and chug,
drinking all your worries away.
as the hornman grows fanatic,
thup-thup-thup-tu-tu-tu-tu-thup-thup-thu,
inhibitions melt away like the
ice swan adorning the imaginary buffet.
hands and lips roam and caress until
the dance ends with ripped fabric until
the bed creaks underneath our weight.
the rest of the town is out tonite, dear,
and though we never opened a door
our spirits are soarin' with the rainclouds.
