Maths is teh hawt!

So I have taken two conjectures

----------------
Sir Walter Raleigh is perhaps best known for laying down his cloak in the mud for Queen Elizabeth I (though sadly this act of chivalry is probably a myth!) However, he also started a mathematical quest which to this day remains unsolved.

Sir Walter posed a simple question to his mathematical assistant, Thomas Harriot. How can I calculate the number of cannon balls in a stack? Harriot solved this problem without difficulty but started to wonder about a more general problem. What arrangement of the balls takes up the least space?

(apparently this is no longer 'conjecture' - http://www.math.pitt.edu/~thales/kepler98/

VERSUS...DUM DUM DUM....

Goldbach conjecture asserts that all positive even integers can be expressed as the sum of two primes. Two primes such that p+q=2n for n a positive integer are sometimes called a Goldbach partition (Oliveira e Silva).

Notice that there can be more than one Goldbach pair. The conjecture says only that there is at least one, and has nothing to say about whether there may be more.

example of Goldbach conjecture:

This is really a simple idea, as these few examples will show:

20 = 7 + 13
34 = 3 + 31
42 = 13 + 29
66 = 19 + 47
72 = 11 + 61
100 = 47 + 53

So what's so hard about that, you ask? Well, just try proving that it is true for ALL even whole numbers. Ever since Goldbach made this observation, mathematicians, professional and amateur alike, have tried to do that. But with no real success.

--------------------

My question, what one gives you the biggest hard on?

That's actually not that much of a mindfuck if you think about it. Series' give me a huge math hard on though. And things like e^(pi*i)+1. It's pretty amazing that e and pi can appear in so many different places in mathematics.

Ooo, wait! Fractions...

9 x 1/3 = 9/3 = 3
3 =/= 9

...further refined to 'positive integers'
---

Fractions don't exactly fit into the 'formula' as a fraction is essentially multiplying and the dividing and division was not included in said 'formula'

What would be more correct is that the solution of any integer multiplied by nine when separated into single digit will add to be the absolute value of nine or the absolute value of a multiple of nine.

If you multiply a number by 9, then add together the sum of the answer, you will always get 9!

Check it out: 9 x 4 = 36

3 + 6 = 9!

I spent a week trying to find a number that disproved this rule, but there isn't one. Even a mad long number:

45673 x 9 = 411057

4 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 5 + 7 = 18

1 + 8 = 9!

On the first one:
It is easily demonstrable that the least efficient storage arrangement for the cannon balls is a single line, so we first build a box large enough to contain all the cannon balls in a single line. Place all the cannon balls into the box and seal the top. Now is where we think outside the box. Outside the box, the cannon balls take up no space whatsoever. Therefore, the least amount of space the cannon balls can take up is zero. Everything's easy when you think outside the box.
