This mosaic is the first I was commissioned to create but the second commission I've finished (Trakehner: http://www.ubersite.com/m/113847). While it took longer than i'd hoped or expected to complete it I hope that my clients feel like they got a steal when they recieve it.
I think the only thing I'd do different if i had this piece to do over again would be to keep a count of the pieces of glass that I used because I think there have to be several thousand on this piece. From edge to edge the frame is 30" with the main body of the glasswork being 27"

thanks all, as to how long something like this takes...
I drew three designs and submitted them to my buyer. They liked certain elements from each of those designs so I drew a fourth to incorporate those elements into one design. 4-5 hours.
glass selection 20 minutes
frame construction and finishing 2 hours.
glasswork, who knows. I didn't keep track. this has been on my dining room table for six months but thankfully my client is patient and gracious. I do know that the blue and mirrored sections around the outside took forever to complete because they were tedious intricate pieces of shit that i designed and imposed on myself. fucking tiny little pieces of glass.
grouting approx an hour to grout it and clean it all up.
