There is absolutely no question that the average person does best health-wise by consuming a mixed diet that is as fresh, and hopefully as unprocessed as possible.

This, from http://www.acu-cell.com/veg.html

If dairy, meat, fish, and poultry are excluded, one may become deficient in vitamin B12(important for nerve transmission and necessary for life), calcium (for strong bones, among other functions), iron (for blood), and zinc (for immunity and healing), just to name a few. As a result, it is what is included, rather than excluded, in our diets that counts.

This, from http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1548.html?CFID=3192826&CFTOKEN=29991573

Lean red meat is not only a good source of protein and energy, but also has benefits in avoiding heart disease.

This, from http://www.csiro.au/resources/ps8l.html

Some research has shown that having red meat less than twice a week can result in zinc deficiencies.

This, from http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/is-meat-good-or-bad-for-us-425192.html

...lean red meat is a nutrient dense food which is...perfectly suitable for people who are looking for a healthy balanced diet that helps control their weight.

BUT:

Although some may fear the nutritional hazards of a vegetarian diet, the fact is that vegetarians enjoy greater longevity, better health, and lower risks of cancer and certain chronic diseases. According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), "Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals."

This, from http://stanford.wellsphere.com/wellmix360/cons-of-vegetarianism

Though...

No vegetable has all the amino acids that the body doesn't make.

This, from http://www.drgourmet.com/askdrgourmet/vegatarianproscons.shtml

And...

The American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada have found a properly-planned vegetarian diet to satisfy the nutritional needs for all stages of life, and large-scale studies have shown vegetarianism to significantly lower risks of cancer, ischemic heart disease, and other fatal diseases.

This, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian

What do *I* think?

Meat tastes good.
Meat has shit in it I need to build muscle (more amino acid types than ANY veggie out there, creatine, heaps of protein, etc.)
Human beings are omnivores. We always have been.

Show me one successful professional athlete who is a Vegan. They don't exist. If they do, they're probably pro curlers or pro shuffleboard players.

Vegetarians almost always have this kind of strange, often unfounded and ill-contrived theory as to WHY they're vegetarians and often, their arguments are steeped in bullshit factoids writ by patchouli-wearing bloggers who JUST NEED A GOOD STEAK.

Lastly, I can kick everyone's ass and I eat meat. That should tell you something.

All of you 'vegans', 'vegetarians' and other meat-fearing bitches -- please take a shot at solving the below puzzle.

Most vegetarians are unhealthy because they eliminate meat from their diets, and yet, still refrain from eating well. Eating well is equally what you do eat and don't eat.

I eat very few things with ingredients, and when I do, the ingredients are always few and good. My diet consists mostly of raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, three eggs a day, and a small amount of fish every day. I eat a lot, and make sure I get more than enough protein, and take creatine in my protein shakes when I get back from the gym, because creatine is the only thing I need that I can't get more than enough of with a vegetarian diet.

I don't get sick, and unless I do too many recreational drugs and or stop sleeping, I always feel good, have never been to a doctor or hospital, and have no health problems.

My girlfriend has been miserably sick and unhealthy her whole life, and started eating almost the same diet as I do (except less carbs), and most of her problems she thought she would always have went away in a short period of time. She also doesn't feel well when she eats meat anymore.

As for people that eat meat, I really don't mind in the slightest, and I'm glad you enjoy it. It doesn't bother me if you bite into a big bloody steak in front of me, and if you want to kill baby seals and eat them, feel free. Now just don't be an asshole and get on my case because I don't want to eat what you do. And saying vegetarians are unhealthy because of the vegetarians that eat badly, is like saying people that eat meat are unhealthy because you all eat McDonald's.

Agreed, we need to eat meat. Look at our teeth, we have cutter AND mulchers... but we need to change the industry so there is less risk of disease for us and less suffering for the animals we feed upon. We CAN do it, we just need the right motivation.

Really bubba? I've been 'pwned' even though your entire argument hinges on a word being used incorrectly? Hell your entire argument is a word used in poor context.

I find it hillarious that when you're banned your alter persona is your niece. Not only do you choose to be 'female' but when you've been found out- and let's face it, we all knew it was you by that way you have of just sucknig the fun out of everything- you said you were your own niece.

Do you want to be your niece bubba?

Actually Doodles, when one speaks of evolution, it is obvious that they are encompassing the entire genus of "Homo."
---

There was no mention of evolution, just millions of years. Unless you meant adapted to mean evolve, but that had to do with the diet and not the 'humans' in question.

human is derived from the root 'homo', while in a literal sense, it can be used to describe the genus. However human directly implies the species homo sapien and with out any other context to imply otherwise earth meant modern man. Scientists normally refer to prior species as 'cousins'.

I eat a diet that humans have adapted to for millions of years.

The advent of agriculture, or the introduction of grains was marked by an overwhelming increase of obesity and auto-immune diseases that were all but non-existent in pre-agricultural humans.

Fact: 95% of the population will die from Auto-Immune Diseases (which was rare to non-existent before agriculture.)
Fact: The poorest countries, or those with the highest consumptions of grains are the fattest and least healthy.
Fact: Without the large consumption of fats found in meats, our brains and bodies would never have evolved.
Fact: The Inuits and some tribes of Aborigines who eat predominately meat/fat, share the lowest rates of heart disease, tooth decay, and cancer. Only when these peoples are introduced to agricultural based diets to their health deteriorate.
Fact: Low-Carb/Diet High in Animal Fat has no connection to Heart Disease. (Harvard Study, 2006)

6.1 Carl Lewis is probably one of fastest athletes in
the world. In 1991, he broke the world record for
100 meters in 9.86 seconds.

6.2: Edwin Moses
>From 1977 to 1987 he has achieved 122 victories in the 400 meter hurdles. His career included two Olympic gold medals, two world titles and four world records in his specialty. During this time he achieved a streak of 122 consecutive victories
6.3: Martina Navratilova.
She was the first tennis player to win Wimbledon nine times with six of those nine wins being consecutive. She broke the record for professional tennis titles of 74 in 1984 and since has achieved a total of 167 titles.
The vegetarian and vegan diets are perfectly compatible with sports activities including intense activities such as strength training or weight lifting. Since the vegan diet is high in carbohydrates which are needed to fuel the body, athletes are easily sustained with this type of nourishment.

6.4: Paavo Nurmi
Marathon runner Paavo Nurmi has achieved 20 world records and has won nine Olympic gold medals. In the 1924 Olympic Games held in Paris, he won the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters in the same evening with just one hour of rest between the two events.

We now know that not only does the human body require protein, but it also requires carbohydrates and fats to provide the necessary energy for the athlete. And in fact, glycogen in the muscles determines in great part the athlete's muscular resistance and the production of glycogen is related to the consumption of complex carbohydrates.

Vegetarians and vegans can satisfy their protein and nutritional requirments by simply increasing their caloric intake without any problem. On average, vegetarians obtain 12,5% of their calories from protein and vegans obtain 11%. For example, an 80 kg (176 lbs.) athlete who consumes 3600 calories daily in a vegetarian diet, would obtain 1.41g of protein per kilogram of body weight - more than enough for the majority of sportsmen. With a vegan diet, an athlete would obtain 1,2g of protein per kilogram of body weight - also sufficient the majority of sportsmen.
