I see woman at the school gates, fat with fat kids, and you kinda want to help them but Hidden is right in that people need to want to change themselves and have willpower and determination. Pills alone don't stop the rot.

My baby is kicking like crazy I can see my belly flinch as I glance at the keyboard. Ultra cool.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My friend (Who has a 2 year old son who KICKS ASS...I HATE kids...) called in to work the other day.
Her - "I won't be coming in today, I have to take my son to the doctor."
My retarded boss Matt - "(gurgled grunts)?"
Her - " Uh. I'll be in tomorrow, what time?"
Matt- "BabyKICK?!"
Her- "Uhm. Ok, well talk to you later.
Matt- "Baby...KICK?!"
Her - "Yeah....Bye."
Her son is 2, and has more vocabulary and sentence structure than him.
O yeah, my point was..."belly flinch" reminded me of this.
Babykick = people in post
Baby flinch = sweeeet.
YAY gonna rant:
My boyfriend's ex-wife has 3 kids, by 3 different men (all while legally married to my boyfriend, the father of the oldest child...). She lives in free housing. She receives food stamps. She is on medicaid. She gets subsidized utilities, for fuck's sake. She also receives child support from my boyfriend, and possibly from one of the other fathers. She is seriously obese, outweighing my fat ass by at least 100 lbs. As far as daycare- most places in the US do have childcare vouchers and programs like that, where the state pays for at least part of your childcare costs.
------------------------
Ever stop to think that she may be depressed and feel unable to try to work, maybe she has low self esteem and doesn't feel work worthy. I have always worked, even when financially it would have been better that I didn't, but I am as tough as old boots. not everyone is. i remember a lady who used my sons creche for the coffee morning session. She was incredibly fat and didn't work but you could see she was terribly unhappy with herself andher situation. I think she didn't know or how to ask for help, she had no confidence in herself, her determination and will had all but gone.
Very rarely have i ever seen or met anyone who is TRULY happy to be on welfare etc.
AND WTF is it with bad mothing people who have kids by more than one man?? I noticed a few comments below were '3 kids by 3 different fathers'. Are you all real?? I have three kids by two different dads, the first is dead and the second guy i am still with. Does it make me less of a person? Is it ALWAYS the mothers fault that sometimes relationships break down and the man WALKS away??
___________________________________________________
Orphelia- your situation is VERY different from the situation I was describing. In this case, she had all three kids, by three different fathers, WITHIN THREE YEARS, obviously none of the kids being multiples as they have different fathers. And again, all of this was while legally MARRIED. She couldn't even divorce my BF before she knocked out two more kids within 1.5 years from two different other men. As far as her being depressed because she got knocked up and can't keep her fucking legs closed- see if I give a shit! I have had sex many, many times, and only have one child because I'm intelligent enough to use condoms/nuvaring- I learned from my "mistake" (even though he's such a damn cute mistake...). I was "depressed" too- to the point where I had to be hospitalized and put on all sorts of fun meds. The thing is, though, that I took myself off the meds (bad side effects), kicked myself in the ass, and GOT OVER IT.
At one point, I will have two children by two different men, too- the father of my son abandoned me when he found out I was pregnant because I refused to get an abortion, but I do plan on having at least one kid with my boyfriend after we get married in 2-3 years. Lots of women have kids with different fathers due to death or divorce- but like I said, I was ranting against a woman who did it while legally married to one man who was not in prison and is still among the living.
damn, orphelia. no one was knocking you, girl. no one is talking about women who had a partner die and then have kids with another father. we are talking about women in the US who specifically get impregnated by whomever they can to get the welfare checks so they don't have to work. or the ones who are just extremely irresponsible about sex.
-----
Orphelia, I was talking about the kind of female Hidden described. I'm sorry for your loss.
-----------------
Sorry guys, but you wouldn't believe how small minded people are when they find out your kids don't all have the same father. Those people, I find though, are not worth knowing.
Two of my three kids were planned, and I am aware that this will be my last - unless i win the lottery in which case, I'd like to pop one out every year until it's impossible!
Do not be sorry for my loss, by the way. He died in prison at the hands of another inmate (he was charged with manslaughter of the death of another guy). He was a terrible man and his death was release for me and our son.
People are very quick to judge, myself included, it doesn't help that I can look really young and I do get comments from strangers. I will say, when he waas killed, it would have been very easy to slip into depression and just hide away from the world. But I chose to throw myself into raising my son and working to improve our life. It was tough but it has paid off as now I have a wonderful family, a nice house, a shit hot car.
there are times when I could have given my right arm to just slum it on welfare but I think my upbringing and own integrity made stick it out.
I see woman at the school gates, fat with fat kids, and you kinda want to help them but Hidden is right in that people need to want to change themselves and have willpower and determination. Pills alone don't stop the rot.
and i know what you mean about being depressed- i went through a period in my life where i was depressed for a few months. i layed in bed for a week without really eating and got to weak i couldn't walk. i didn't have a job, nor did i have the motivation to get one. i ran out of money. i would have been homeless if i hadn't had anyone to take me in at the time. but i'm tough as nails, so i picked myself up, dusted myself off, and got my ass back in the ring. now i have a very successful career and my life is going better than ever. and i'm happy.
i've found that when a person is down, they don't need sympathy. they need to be kicked while they are down. over and over again. hard. very hard. it will either toughen them up enough to fix themselves or they will just continue to be a loser. anyone can overcome their problems, no matter how bad they are, but they have to have the will to do it. not everyone has the will and is smart enough to be able to fix their problems. that's just a fact. in those cases, what can i say? i may sound like a dick, but fuck 'em.
without society's underachievers, who would make sure my french fries come out piping hot when i order them?
as the poster says, not everyone gets to be an astronaut. but the people that some of you look down on for being lazy are necessary. they have jobs in the service industry, for example. try to imagine a society without a service industry. i can; it's called Afghanistan. you want to live like that?
though the ones who just keep making babies to get more welfare money so they don't have to work should be rounded up and incinerated holocaust style.
These people disgust me. Granted, my son is on medicaid so that I can handle his appointments and such... but we do not have subsidized housing, food stamps, etc. I am also a full-time college student, and my boyfriend works 50 hr weeks at a construction firm.
The Ex gives her kids McDonalds/Wendy's literally once a day at least. Her excuse? It's sooo expensive! Yes, fresh food has become expensive, but she lives in the country, and there are tons of farm stands and such.. but they don't take her precious food stamps. So she goes to Wal-Mart and buys cans upon cans of crap.
I live in a "city" and don't have produce stands, but I still manage to give my son lots of fresh/canned/frozen veggies and fruits. I (gasp) use fresh meat to cook. We get fast food *maybe* once every 2-3 weeks.
I don't know where I was really going with this, but just because food is getting more expensive doesn't mean these deadbeat bitches have an excuse for this type of thing. Take your kids on a damn walk or something. Pity about not having a car, but I *really* doubt they don't know someone who could help them find rides... here, poor people make up networks and work on a barter system- you give me a ride and I'll pay for the gas, or you give me a ride and I'll clean your place once a week.
I'm not sure I get it. So they're fat, what difference would it make? I mean yeah, they're fed but it wouldn't exactlty be better if they were lying on their front yard with their ribs poking out and their skin coming off in huge lumps.
Unemployment in Ohio is, apparently, at around 6.5% and accelerating, up on a mere 5% last year. There's no public transport in America and I just don't see how they're going to get by without a car. I don't get why none of them have a car except the mother, but there it is.
Actually I don't get why none of them have a job. They're talking about this woman and her 6 sibilings AND their spouses AND their children. That's like, over 20 people. Perhaps it is just sloppy news reporting?
********************************
As a teen I did some intern work at the welfare dept. Some familes had been on welfare for generations. ALL of them not just a few. Each getting there own check producing more children so they could get more money, and O joy the teens could then get Preggers at 12 and keep it all going.
Berty - there is indeed public transport in the states. But sitting on a bus and walking a few blocks to get to it does not cancel out the bag of Cheetos, box of Hostess and 1 litre bottle of Coke she just consumed.
There has been a change in the economy of food though. Years ago fresh produce was less expensive then it's processed food counterparts. What brought about this shift in cost? When I was very little (20 years ago) in Europe it was more expensive to buy processed food but relatively cheap to go to the green grocer for a head of cabbage, carrots, parsnips, and potatoes for dinner with a very small piece of meat. Meat was the expensive part.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So true, Juls.
Twenty odd years ago, when I was a kid, process foods such as potato waffles, fish fingers etc were not luxury items as such but they were only consumed by the better off section of my school peers and certainly not to the extent they are consumed now.
My mum would take us to the green grocer exactly as you describe, then the butcher, the baker etc. Supermarkets have replaced this it is all convienence. I swear this is one of the key factors in obesity. laziness.
Yes it is easier to open an packet and put in the microwave for a few minutes. But chopping up some veg and browning some lean meat and bunging it in a slow cooker is not that more time consuming. I think some people just need to be educated.
i do find it ridiculous though that some people can't afford to buy a punnet of strawberries, grown in this country. Since when were strawberries a luxury??
Fresh out of highschool I moved about three hundred miles away from my parents and the rest of my family. I didn't move to attend college, just moved to try it on my own. Long story short; I was there for one year and when all the bills were paid and all other expenses were paid I was left with about $40 a month to eat off of. I didn't use any government help through this time, I had one meal a day. During the work week I would buy a burrito from a little Mexican lady that came by the warehouse I worked at. Weekends I would eat rice and fish. I went there weighing 165lbs and left at 130lbs so I don't see how these fatties are poor and huge. Most Americans have no idea how easy they have it, I wish the government would force the citizens in this country to work in order to get financial aid.
Let's say a family receives $500 in food stamps. If they bought fresh fruit, veggies, and whole grains, they'd run out of food stamps after 2 weeks. Maybe less.
That same $500 will keep the pantry stocked with loaves of white bread, peanut butter, Chef Boyarde, Capt'n Crunch, Twinkies, potato chips, Macaroni n' Cheese, 20 lbs. of potatos, pop, and other crap like that.
What do you think they're gonna buy? </leftist lib bleeding heart enabling>
HOWEVER!
I'm sorry, but people like these also perpetuate their own vicious cycle of poverty, obesity, and health problems.
I'm very familiar with these kinds of people. Here was a typical scenario.
Welfare mom with 3 children by 3 different men (2 of whom are in prision, 1 is nowhere to be found) comes into the hospital for a check-up for her and her 3 spawn. Mom is grossly obese (reference the photo in this post) and her young children are becoming obese themselves. The oldest one wheezes at physical excertion. She is on Medicaid, housing subsidies (Section 8), food stamps, and has probably been offered a "scholarship" for a vocational program.
She gladly accepts the Medicaid, housing subsidies, and food stamps but refuses the voc program, whining that "there ain't nobody to take care ah mah keds!"
Mom brings everyone to the lab so her kids can have a routine Hemoglobin & Hematocrit ran. While everyone is waiting their turn, mom reaches into her huge tote bag, and brings out Doritos, regualar (not diet) Coke, Zingers, candy, and McDonalds. She and the 3 kids stuff their faces. Mom tells kids that if they're good and cooperate with the nice lab lady (me), she'll take them for PIZZA HUT when they're done. Mom is talking, loudly, on her cell phone the whole time to 'Ashlai.'
Nice lab lady (me) is outraged, saddened, and disgusted as she draws blood from cheese crumb encrusted screaming children.
Nice lab lady completes her task, give the children some Spongebob stickers, and watches as the whole brood waddles out of the lab's waiting area, on their way to Pizza Hut.
If people like these would be penalized, rather than rewarded, for their lifestyles, believe me, there would be a whole lot LESS of them.
Berty--don't bother lecturing me. I know what I'm talking about. I worked with these people for many years.
And yes, meanwhile, elderly Mrs. Higgins can barely keep the heat on in the winter, eats tuna fish and cans of green beans, can't afford her heart medication, and thinks receiving Meals on Wheels would be a slice of heaven.
Fuck me, our system really is shit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh lord yes.
I did a stint as a counselor in a battered women's center through my early college years. The place was privately funded and pretty well set up. Women got free 2 bedroom apartments, set up in local jobs, and tuition paid to the community college, which was easily within walking distance. The housekeeper maintained a kitchen, so meals were free (if they wanted them), and there was an acre or so worth of organic gardens in the back, so it was stalked with a lot of fresh fruit and vegs. We also had a youth program, so it's not like they had to pay for daycare. The only rules were common sense. You had to show up for classes and work, keep your apartment clean, and no overnight male guests.
While there were some pretty notable success stories (one woman went on to become an MD), the amount of fail that remained was just amazing. First off, the women didn't use the kitchen. They spent the money from their jobs on Doritos, Cheetos, and Mac&Cheese. Starchy foods=obesity && Obesity!=energy. Which resulted in their not wanting to go to their jobs (on account of the jobs being 'entry level' and degrading(they would have rather been placed as CEO's)), or attend classes (on account of the professors hating them). To top it all off, there were at least five boyfriends - you know, the ones who landed them in the 'battered' shelter in the first place - who pretty much lived on premises.
The counselors were afraid of enforcing the rules as they were white and the clientele were largely black (or at least thought they were).
Fucked up system indeed. This is why I work with computers now, not humans.
What kills me is hearing about the old people struggling to make ends meet. We give financial aid to countries that think we are shit yet our old people need Meals on Wheels? Something wrong there.
-----------------
Whilst it IS cheaper to buy crap in this country than quality fresh produce, I have been in circumstances where I had to choose crap so both my son and I could eat or healthy food for my toddler but I had to go without. I went without often.
Also, it was impossible to get fat. I couldn't at the time, afford a car, so we walked everywhere. And I'd regularly take hm to the park, or the woods, just to get out of our freezing damp house.
My gran and he family were heavily rationed during the war, fresh and quality produce was scarce, but they didn't get fat, despite being poor in a food sense. they still ate a BALANCED diet and got exercise. Todays society is greedy and lazy. And I hate the idea of rewarding yourself or your children with sweets or takeaway meals. Disgusting.
There has been a change in the economy of food though. Years ago fresh produce was less expensive then it's processed food counterparts. What brought about this shift in cost? When I was very little (20 years ago) in Europe it was more expensive to buy processed food but relatively cheap to go to the green grocer for a head of cabbage, carrots, parsnips, and potatoes for dinner with a very small piece of meat. Meat was the expensive part.
------
I too agree with Grouchy Grouch here.
Gah! Too many years working healthcare = becoming an absolute bitch about this.
Yeah, cheap, starchy, processed foods are...well...cheap and so, people like these people tend to buy them.
Let's say a family receives $500 in food stamps. If they bought fresh fruit, veggies, and whole grains, they'd run out of food stamps after 2 weeks. Maybe less.
That same $500 will keep the pantry stocked with loaves of white bread, peanut butter, Chef Boyarde, Capt'n Crunch, Twinkies, potato chips, Macaroni n' Cheese, 20 lbs. of potatos, pop, and other crap like that.
What do you think they're gonna buy? </leftist lib bleeding heart enabling>
HOWEVER!
I'm sorry, but people like these also perpetuate their own vicious cycle of poverty, obesity, and health problems.
I'm very familiar with these kinds of people. Here was a typical scenario.
Welfare mom with 3 children by 3 different men (2 of whom are in prision, 1 is nowhere to be found) comes into the hospital for a check-up for her and her 3 spawn. Mom is grossly obese (reference the photo in this post) and her young children are becoming obese themselves. The oldest one wheezes at physical excertion. She is on Medicaid, housing subsidies (Section 8), food stamps, and has probably been offered a "scholarship" for a vocational program.
She gladly accepts the Medicaid, housing subsidies, and food stamps but refuses the voc program, whining that "there ain't nobody to take care ah mah keds!"
Mom brings everyone to the lab so her kids can have a routine Hemoglobin & Hematocrit ran. While everyone is waiting their turn, mom reaches into her huge tote bag, and brings out Doritos, regualar (not diet) Coke, Zingers, candy, and McDonalds. She and the 3 kids stuff their faces. Mom tells kids that if they're good and cooperate with the nice lab lady (me), she'll take them for PIZZA HUT when they're done. Mom is talking, loudly, on her cell phone the whole time to 'Ashlai.'
Nice lab lady (me) is outraged, saddened, and disgusted as she draws blood from cheese crumb encrusted screaming children.
Nice lab lady completes her task, give the children some Spongebob stickers, and watches as the whole brood waddles out of the lab's waiting area, on their way to Pizza Hut.
I'm not sure I get it. So they're fat, what difference would it make? I mean yeah, they're fed but it wouldn't exactlty be better if they were lying on their front yard with their ribs poking out and their skin coming off in huge lumps.
Unemployment in Ohio is, apparently, at around 6.5% and accelerating, up on a mere 5% last year. There's no public transport in America and I just don't see how they're going to get by without a car. I don't get why none of them have a car except the mother, but there it is.
Actually I don't get why none of them have a job. They're talking about this woman and her 6 sibilings AND their spouses AND their children. That's like, over 20 people. Perhaps it is just sloppy news reporting?
We need some sort of Darwinian mechanism for weeding people like that out. Think about it: not only are they a drain on society, they're fucking up the gene pool for future generations. Do we really want our grandchildren saddled with theirs?
Ah, you say, you've got it backwards. It's not nature that makes them that way, it's nurture. Society isn't the victim here--it's the culprit. It's our fault they are the way they are.
All right then, why doesn't everyone turn out like that? We all live in the same society. If it was really society's fault we'd all be like that.
But no, we don't all live in the same soc
