The small city where I live is commonly voted one of the best places to live by one silly rag or another. It was recently voted in the top ten by Outside Magazine.

The latest local news has centered around the use of tasers by the local po-po department. I guess folks prefer to get shot. Check out this action video of a recent tasing of a local nut-job. Columbia is taser crazer and is, in my opinion, one of the top cities in the US in which to be tased.

They should have just let the stupid fucker drop to his death on I-70 instead of wasting all of their resources. If the fat fuck sues I hope they charge him for the cost to the city. I just can't believe the cop missed the fat fuck with his first shot. It's like Reno 911 around the old town lately. woohoo!!!

Well that explains some things about you FC3. You've pissed me off in the past by making some really unflattering remarks on here about midwesterners and how they speak and how they're hicks and all. The fact that you live in KC, a midwest city I like a lot by the way, explains some of your jaundiced views about the Midwest. Maybe you're not a native and never learned to appreciate us.

No. I'm a native. I will continue to make fun of Midwesterners, given as how I am one too and have been known to make fun of my own accent. I didn't say all Midwesterners are hicks and not all of them talk like uneducated yokels.
The ones who do however give me great joy by providing me with material.
There is something inherently hysterical about rednecks and hicks.

Missouri isn't really all that bad of a place. i love going to the Ozarks. it's just like how people say Jersey sucks but they don't really know anything about it. i wouldn't to live there because i don't exactly like the people there, but Jersey is close to NYC, has some beautiful areas, and has places like AC and Cape May. i used to work in Princeton a lot and although it's nice, i just can't relate to the people there.
anyway, Missouri is great if you like doing things outdoors like camping, fishing, boating, hiking, off-roading in Jeeps or dirtbikes or 4 wheelers. if you're more of a city person, Kansas City and St Louis are pretty sweet. i just bought a house in the St Louis area and i know i'm not going to regret leaving Chicago one bit.

I guess the moral of the story is that the Midwest is a big place and not monolithic. Considering that people from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Chicago, KC, Indianpolis, and the Missouri Ozarks might all consider themselves Midwestern. The tooth-per-head ratio is gonna vary quite a bit between some of those groups.

Ok, for whatever it's worth, here's my take (I'm a Missourian).
I've been to Columbia, Missouri. You can call it a college town (http://www.missouri.edu/) and it does have a bit of college town charm.
Meth? Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. I live in Kansas City, specifically Independence which is a 'burb, and we used to be the meth capital.
I generally tell people that if you're thinking of moving to the Midwest, try to move to a major city because otherwise you'll die of boredom.
I dunno. Missouri is ok, nice at times, infuriating and mind dulling at others.
But there are lots of hicks and rednecks to laugh at, so there's that. :)

Not to take anything away from Columbia, Mo. - I've never been there - but let's face it, it is in Missouri, how great can it be?
But those lists are complete horseshit.
For proof of that (for this particular list anyway) we need only look at the number 2 place on the list: Washington DC. That's hysterical. I've been there many times and place is a hellhole of crime, corruption, and broken city services. Unless you work for the Gov't and make A LOT of money, who the hell would want to live there?

Last summer, Outside said the top place to live was somewhere in Iowa. Needless to say, I haven't bought an issue since.

My town was recently designated one of the 'Classic towns of Greater Philadelphia designed to increase tourism in 11 communities deemed great places to live, work, and play.'
We get enough visitors..they can have at the shopping but I don't like having to fight for a seat in 'my' bars and restaurants.
