Soooo I'm new here. Been reading some posts here and there for a couple weeks, figured it couldn't hurt to throw my own up now and then, considering it couldn't possibly be worse than a lot of what I've already seen. Before I do anything substantive, though, could someone answer a few questions for me? There doesn't seem to be any sort of user guide on this site.
First, what exactly is an alter? If I understand correctly, it's a person who posts something and then logs on under different usernames for the purpose of commenting on their own material and boosting their own ratings. Is that about right?
Second, I notice that the ratings are whole numbers from -2 to 2. Is there a certain set of criteria in place for rating posts, or is the whole thing based on each reader's arbitrary whims?
Yeah, these are definitely n00b questions, but I've learned through my job that it's better to sound ignorant up front than to presume to know an answer and look like a massive fool when you turn out to be completely and totally wrong.
