I'm buying a gaming console this weekend and can't decide on either a Playstation 3 or an XBox 360. For those of you in the know, give me some advice!
(Don't worry, I already told myself to put down the game controller and get a life.)

PS3 has Blu-Ray, so it's a cheap way of getting a Blu-Ray player
Xbox has better games, though, and a better online community.
Either way, fret not, your virginity will remain intact.

Don't worry about the anti-console cocksuckers on here. They are just too old to embrace the modern media world.
It is 100% all about the PS3, following reasons....
1) Bluray - In 1/2 years games will be too big to fit on a DVD and Microshaft charges games developers by the disc, so when they take 2 DVDs the games are going to cost more / or be skimped on when it comes to development. I'm sure Sony won't be selling bluray technology to Microshaft.
2) They have just started to develop on PS3 and port over to X360, (has been the other way around until now) so games will have to have corners cut to accomodate the 360's lower performance and power.
3) Sony is a really good company, listens to it's users, updates with new, requested features regularly and supports quirky, interesting titles. Rather than Microshaft who pumps money by the millions into getting PS3 exclusive titles (read new Final Fantasy) and into getting sooner release dates etc.
4) Built far far better, you probably have 1 broken PS3 for at least every 100 Broken 360's. They're expensive but you get what you pay for.
5) Online is FREE! - Works a treat, PSN titles are awesome too.
6) Metal Gear Solid - nuff said.
7) It's a true media hub, can wirelessly connect to your PC and move files to and from, remote play on the PSP is awesome, old models have loads of card readers, 4 USB 2 ports, useful shit. Supports most music and movie files.
8) You can pick up a 500gb Hard disc for at for like £60 (GBP) and can drop it in and out of your PS3, rather than pay through the nose for Microshafts "special" 360 drive.
9) Wireless straight out of the box, no Microshaft add on's to buy.
10) Sixaxis controllers, now with rumble AND motion control - which is better than you'd think.
To sum it up, 360 is the best available now due to all the games available, but it's time is extremely limited, PS3 is totally future proof and the games industry knows it, the days of Xbox exclusives is almost over.
Plus the outlaying cost of the PS3 is more but it WILL last longer than any 360 and once you've paid a couple of years Xbox live subscription you will have paid the difference anyway.
Go PS3, for sure.

Using your Thompson Center Encore hunting pistol in .308 caliber, attempt to shoot yourself in the head through the XBox 360. Then, reload and attempt the same thing through the PS3. Whichever of the two does a better job of protecting you has earned the right to be in your entertainment system, and the other one may be returned as defective. HTH

Don't get all riled up because I demonstrated better literary skills and imagination in my response than did the poster in the post. If he wants to save up his allowance so he can buy a gaming system and stay in the living room (See? Didn't got for the obvious 'basement' reference there!) all week playing video games, he can go to it. If that's what you want to do too, feel free. I'm not saying I'm better than you or him because you and he choose to spend your time playing video games where you run about virtually shooting your friends. I just think that it's a waste of time is all. If you'd like to shoot your friends, try paintball. Same concept as the war games but you have the risk/reward of feeling/giving actual pain, there's no magic replenishment of ammunition or strength, and simply memorizing the terrain won't guarantee you a victory. More of a challenge? I think so. Helps you hone not only eye-hand skills but strategy, teamwork, and improvisation skills? Indeed. Good exercise? Absolutely. Ability to abuse your buddy after you've shot him in the facemask by saying "I just squeezed and unloaded right on your face!" in front of his girlfriend? Infinitely greater than a video game.

i have a ps3, though have played an xbox 360 also.
other than certain games etc, i can't see a major difference.
i just prefer ps3 i guess as i have always had ps and i stick to what i know best.
and most importantly, i know many others with ps3 so can play people i know which is the best thing.
if you get a ps3 mail me so i can add you. i kick ass at cod4.

PS3 for shiz. Bluray player + videogames. its a win win! Not to mention that online play is free and it has built in wifi. Just for online play and the wifi adaptor on the 360 it will run u about 100 bucks.
Also alot of companies have said that theyre gonna be designing their games for the ps3 rather than the 360, which means that the ports to the 360 arent going to be nearly as smooth.

My brother likes his XBox 360 because it allows him to nerd out on his headset with his friends while they have a group Call of Duty orgy.
I personally have no opinion, as I am a grown woman with no aptitude whatsoever for video games.
