This is a directly quoted question and response from a recent McCain rally.

Woman at rally: I don't trust Obama. I have read about him and he's an Arab.

Sen. John McCain: No ma'am, no ma'am. He's a decent family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues. That's what this campaign is all about. He's not, thank you.

---------

I'm sorry, what? Obama is not an Arab, he's a decent family man and a citizen???

Why is John McCain not being called out by the people of the United States for this incredibly racist response to a stupid question? I mean, great, go ahead and try to set the record straight on Obama because the poll numbers indicate your constant attacking hasn't worked. That's fine. But since when does being Arab mean you're not a decent family man and not a citizen?

This whole Obama-is-a-muslim meme from this campaign has really sickened me. Not because of the accusation itself, but simply BECAUSE "So and so is a muslim" is considered an insult and something that would disqualify someone from higher office.

So much for America's promise of overcoming racial boundaries this election. We haven't cracked the glass ceiling, we've just shifted our definition of ethnic undesirables in a different direction.

C'mon people. I know that Al-Qaeda is bad.I know that Wahhabi Islam is a poison to the world. But so is fundamentalist Christianity as preached by folks like Falwell, so are the hard line Jews in Israel who want to wipe away the Palestinians.

And get your shit straight. "Al-Qaeda" is completely made up. http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

I don't think this is really the issue here. The real issue is what idiot gave that woman the microphone in the first place? She looked like a total headcase. She probably has more cats than friends or family, and she totally sounded like that woman from the video on collegehumor talking about how the government was secretly putting rainbows in the water supply.

But seriously, it really saddens me to see how American politics have come to this. granted, they've always been like this, because most people in this country are fools, but the McCain campaign dug their own graves on this one. It is partially due to some of the photos of Obama in a turbin when he was visiting Kenya that were put out by the media during the primaries, but no one was actually afraid of Obama before the attacks from the McCain campaign started. They're spreading lies and rumors and now are on the defensive when they've gotten out of hand. It is really pathetic when campaigning becomes more about attacking your opponent's charachter rather than actually discussing your own views.

Falwell is a piece of shit bigot, spewing hate and intolerance. and don't act like some christians don't commit acts of terrorism on behalf of their leaders. they may not do it on the same scale as muslim extremists, but they still do it. if you look at history, most of the fucked up shit that has happened was done in the name of religion- mostly islam and christianity.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually bud, falwell is a corpse, the only thing hes spewing is carrion vermin.

I do agree that a good chunk of the evil that is done in this world is done in the name of god who is supposedly totally against that behavior.

I will repeat myself.. you religious types are all fucking wackjobs.

My grandmother used to call me a porch monkey all the time when I was a kid because I'd sit on the porch and stare at my neighbors.

also, i'd like to again point out that many of us are wondering why McCain didn't respond differently by scolding the woman for being a racist. i mean, it was so blatantly racist that i actually gasped.

like i said before- i saw my grandmother say "aren't you little nigger kids cute" when handing out candy to black trick or treaters. again, i gasped. i said "grandma, that's incredibly racist". she doesn't hate black people. she's an old-timer that thinks that's just what you call black people. i had to explain to her that you don't call black kids "little niggers".

i'm not saying McCain is going around calling black people niggers, but i really got the feeling that he was being an undercover racist by the way he responded.

i was referring to the woman, not McCain.

so the terminology would still be "overtly". she was very straightforward about the fact that she was being a racist.

yeah this is such a big deal. he obviously meant that no arab can be a decent family man because he didn't explicitly say so.

=================================================================

i'm amazed that people are completely missing the point here.... when someone says something so overtly racist in public.... oh fuck it. i'm wasting my time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if you want to get down to it, it would be covert, not overt. overt would be if he called obama a dirty stinking muslim terrorist arab, whereas covert would be...whatever it is you think he did here.

its annoying, to me, that mccain's rallies are tantamount to high school pep rallies and that his supporters are such idiots, but it goes both ways. i was at my girlfriend's place a couple days ago watching an obama speech and her roommate came out and said (i'm not shitting you):

"i dont care if he is muslim, i like obama."

i responded by calling her a fucking idiot. like mccain, i imagine, i forgot that she was saying there was anything wrong with being muslim because her facts are so basically wrong. mccain cant just call somebody a fucking idiot a a rally; he tried to brush her off more civilly and now he's getting ripped to shreds (to degrees, i guess, since ubersite scuffles are hardly of any consequence in the big scheme of things).

Doodles, it seldom gets anymore idiot than you. Thanks for proving that beautifully with the muck you spewed out above, fuck face.

First, how does "decent and trust work better together than decent and Arab"? How, you bigot? Just because an individual happens to be Arab that automatically disqualifies them from being a decent person or human being? You are an ignorant fucking goon.

Next, you fail at your attempt to qualify McCain's remark that Obama is a citizen by positing that McCain equates citizen to NOT being Arab. How is this necessarily so? One of my best friends is Arab and she is a citizen...how are being a U.S. Citizen and an Arab mutually exclusive, you fuck?

God you're an otiose human being. There's a $10 word...I know you love 'em. Now go to dictionary.com and look it up so you can see how I feel about you. After you're done doing that, get thine country ass to to a library in a large city and read a fucking book.

GOOD GRIEF I hate racists.
---

Right.

Decent is more synonymous with trust than arab.

If something is 'trustworthy' it also is very likely to be 'decent'

You 'trust' people that are 'decent'

For razor to come to the conclusion that trustworthy = arab instead of trustworthy= decent is illogical.

Comprende?

Also from dictionary.com

Arab
-noun 1. a member of a Semitic people inhabiting Arabia and other countries of the Middle East.
2. a member of any Arabic-speaking people.

If you are a citizen of the United States you are NOT an arab. Literally. Like I previously stated.

You must have been confusing 'arab' and 'muslim'

S'ok though, I don't expect much more from slags such as yourself.

You know people don't use the word slag nearly enough.

Look man, I never said I agree with Falwell. The specific cited was things being blown up, and as much as Falwell is a delusional freak I don't think he has ever urged anyone to blow anything up. Do I agree with Falwell on ANYTHING? ANYTHING AT ALL? No. I think he's a fat, insane, profiteering, pampered fuck.

And IF Falwell DID urge his followers to blow shit up, I honestly think that instead of blindly obeying him it would work as a wake up call and they'd wonder why they wasted so much time following the guy. Well, there's always a few freaks, look at the Phelps family, but the vast (moral) majority would probably say, "Whoa, hold on a sec."

yeah this is such a big deal. he obviously meant that no arab can be a decent family man because he didn't explicitly say so.
=========================

For the record, I dont believe that, for all intents and purposes, McCain explicitly MEANT to be racist. However, what he said was racist in NATURE and was and IS interpreted as a racist or otherwise derogatory remark. Anyone taking that statement at face value (with an IQ above 60, that is) can see it as plain as day. Also, anyone taking that statement and applying context or using intuition to interpret it can give McCain the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure Obama did. Still, being a politician, he needs to make an attempt to exercise tact and grace if he's going to be successful. The media is, after all, a bitch.

First McCain informs her that she is incorrect about the trustworthiness as decent and trust work better together than decent and Arab.

Next he informs her that Obama is a citizen-meaning NOT an arab. Literally. To further the point he once again states that obama is not an arab.

=================================

After you're done doing that, get thine country ass to to a library in a large city and read a fucking book.

pretty much like you have to do when a child interrupts an adult conversation. you get back to talking when the child stfu either because you forced him to or he realizes it on his own seeing no one cares.

that's the only way of having a civil conversation, otherwise, as seen in the reviews below, it shoots in every direction and has little content.

maybe because unlike Canada, when we have a fucked up president, it can affect the rest of the world in negative ways. it's kind of a big deal. i know it's hard for a Canadian to understand.

oh so you're saying americans (over)react like this because they worry about the WORLD? lol, spare me. from what i seen, americans voters, like everyone else, worry about their own interest. taxes is one of the central issues, among world crucial issues like flag pins, abortion, gay marriage, pastors or stuff like that of course.

>>>of course most Americans are worried about themselves. a lot of people are inherently self-centered. big surprise... i don't care if you believe this or not, but i DO worry about the rest of the world. i don't want to see other people in other countries die needlessly because of our irresponsible government. wow... i almost sound like a human being. i better shut up.

i think the problem lies more in the fact that you have a two system party who when you think about it, have very little differences between each others ideologically. so your presidential elections look more like coronations than anything else, but the democratic process (more like a show) still takes place, with the media creating adversity and conflicts out of nothing. that's my perspective from up here anyway.

>>>yes, the democratic process still takes place. but when the party that i don't agree with is in power, things happen that i don't like.

and many canucks do get overly emotional about politics. they are what we call stupid people, the same kind of people that would yell out their uninformed opinons at a dinner table, while everybody looks at each other awkwardly in silence wondering who the hell invited them. but it just seems that even intelligent people get carried away in those retarded conversations in the US.

Jack as the calm, collected voice of reason--what a weird election!

My taxes might go up a little (35% to 39.6% on the amount over the margin), but I promise not to whine.

==================================================================

i won't whine, either. i've been paying over 50 grand in taxes the past three years. i'm ok with that. i'm not always happy with how the money is spent, but hey, the Rolling Stones said it best- you can't always get what you want. that's life. nobody ever tried to claim it was fair.

i honestly won't be pissed off if people like me that make a lot of money pay more in taxes. i think the middle class should be taxed less and i think rich people can afford to be taxed more.

i still can't figure out why people keep saying that Obama is going to raise taxes. he keeps saying he wants to cut taxes. there's probably only like 3 people on ubersite at the most that are in a tax bracket that might get it's taxes raised if Obama gets his way. guess what- i won't be crying for them because they make more money than me.

and no one said Falwell is a fucking terrorist. we're saying his ideology is the same. he's trying to fucking act like 3,000 people deserved to die just because some states want to allow gays to marry. and his followers go along with that notion. that's fucking dangerous as fuck.

My worthless two cents offered to this folly:

I'll support Obama before McCain (am still leaning towards Tom Waits, however), but I thought McCain responded rather admirably -- immediately and plausibly. I understand your underlying concerns, but, as somebody said below, it's not as though he had time to develop a well reasoned response. Rather, he *reacted* with a counter position. Better this than smiling and nodding approvingly and shouting "whoop whoop" or something.

skrapmetal, you're just totally wrong on all counts.

Here's CNN's 2006 breakdown of the vote by age, religion, income, etc.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/states/US/H/00/epolls.0.html
-----
Thanks for putting that up - it helps to make my point. Look at the numbers. The younger and poorer and non-whiter you are - all reasons regularly touted by innumerable groups as excuses for lack of education and and increased dependance on government assistance - the more likely you are to vote democrat in order to keep that cycle going.

Also, Fun Fact: Jimmy Carter ran and won the Presidency in 1976. 2006 election results are not relevant statistics as far as determining who put him in office.
==================================================================================

Skrap, to be fair I am sure Razor is referring to likely Obama supporters (not 1976 Carter supporters) and the 2006 election would be the best metric for that. And while you are right about income, note there was a trend for better educated, especially post-graduate educated persons, to vote Democrat.

I myself am a latte-sipping, Ph.D. educated, high tax-bracket person never expecting welfare type as are most of my friends, all for Obama. The only guy I personally know voting for McCain kills termites for a living and did not finish college (but he makes a good living at that).

I live within a stone's throw of Oakland. I see this shit every day. I talk to people -gasp! BLACK people- who are desperate for it to change. Until you live here it's YOU who doesn't know shit. I live in a neighborhood filled with hardworking Latinos and we are surrounded by black and white trash who just want freebies from the gov't.

I was talking to an older black woman on the train just yesterday... the train that was delayed because a black teenager got shot dead at the station 1 stop from ours. Her sister's kid is 16 years old, has already left school, doesn't want a job, expects to get welfare just like that, and the kid weighs 300lbs. I am not making this up. The woman said they just can't get through to this kid because the kid sees others of her generation getting by without lifting a finger because they get freebies. All the kid wants to do is watch TV and get drunk or stoned and fuck.* This cycle has to be stopped.

*Granted that's all most of us want to do, but we work all day and only indulge in the evening or on weekends.

Go ahead, reply with OH JACK STFU RACIST YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT!!!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Let's talk again in 2010.

-------------

I'm sure you've done the math with Obama's and McCain's respective budgets and come to a rational conclusion. You wouldn't just spout garbage that you hear from right-wing pundits, right?

I know you're just a simple man with simple beliefs and a simple cat fetish, but McCain's tax plan is pretty damn similar to Bush's, except McCain claims he will cut down on pork barrel spending, which accounts for a negligibly small portion of our national budget. Bush has increased our federal deficit by 50%. McCain hasn't mentioned one thing other than pork barrel projects that he is going to seriously cut out of the budget. So he's going to lower the government's income by a lot, maintain all of our major current expenditures, and somehow his tax plan makes more sense than Obama's?

McCain's healthcare plan is the biggest joke of all. Within a few years of its implementation, the government will be spending more money on healthcare while covering fewer people.

skrap, fine. Allow me to pick apart what you said point by point.

"WOW is that wrong. Dems are relying on the same voter block that Jimmy Carter did - lower and lower middle class young people and urban dwellers who get more from the government that they give to it and resent those who have more and therefore are considered "rich". Hardly an educated or informed group, they are really a group easily led by baseless rhetoric like that found in music lyrics, television shows, and Barack Obama's fantastic and unworkable promises."

Your point was that stupid uneducated, easily swayed people are voting for Obama. My numbers put that myth to rest.

"Jimmy carter got into office by promising to legalize marijuana, and it got him almost every vote from anyone under 21 who actually voted. He couldn't deliver on that promise, of course, because it was just an unworkable ploy to get votes, "

I don't even care about this, so I'm not going to bother to research it.

"just like what Obama's doing by promising you an electric car and no new taxes (aside: please note that he doesn't say he won't jack your existing tares through the roof, and he will, and that is a lie of omission)."

Obama has laid out his economic and energy policies very clearly and for everyone to see.

He has not promised anyone an electric car, that is pure hyperbole. What he has said is that he's going to invest in renewable energy as part of a comprehensive package that includes offshore drilling to ease and eventually remove America's dependence on fossil fuels.

Obama has not promised no new taxes. Instead, he's made it quite clear that he intends to remove tax breaks the wealthy are currently enjoying. So, the wealthy will pay more taxes under Obama while the average middle class family will enjoy a tax break.

"Think it through before you vote, and remember what Jimmy Carter and his Democrat spending did to the economy."

I have thought it through. And before you go on about Jimmy Carter and his Democrat spending and what it did to the American economy, why don't you go about explaining what the Republican economic policies have done to us.

To quote Lil Wayne in his "Misunderstood" song off of "Tha Carter III", who was quoting "this white guy" he apparently was listening to one day, "one in every one hundred Americans is locked up; one in every NINE BLACK AMERICANS is locked up" (emphasis added). We might want to look the other way and pretend like it's all in their heads, but the reality of the matter is that it's NOT in their heads. Oppression is real and CURRENT on the part of black Americans, regardless of whether we see it or want to see it or not.

============

I think you'll find a different line of reasoning when you look into the number of white felons locked up compared to black felons. While the numbers are still heavily skewed in favor of the blacks, more and more of them are locked up based upon misdemeanors.

Besides, it's a well documented fact that black people are lazy and would prefer to sell drugs as opposed to work a 9-5...and I'll be gone til' November.

*runs and hides*
=================
Wayne DID say imply they were locked up for misdemeanors, which is whack in and of itself. I just didn't quote that part, although now in retrospect, perhaps I should have. Would have made for a better argument. I've been convicted of a misdemeanor and I never got locked up. Why? 'Cause Sage is a good little Christian white girl raised by good little conservative, rich, white parents. Had I been black and from the ghetto raised by a single mom on welfare, my story might have been different. Speculation? Maybe. Truth? Probably. We'll never know, though, will we?

But of course, why are we bringing income into this? The original point was where educated people were placing their votes, and that's pretty clear.

I would say that regardless of the skin color that there are poor people, people in bad neighborhoods that never get out because they are told by those around them that they can't get out. I would also say that those saying that are saying it MORE because they never tried and are ashamed, or tried and failed and don't want it to be know or they are comfortable in the idea of abusing the welfare system that we have in our country.

I'm sorry but I can't find room in my brain to be accepting of anyone that says they can't do something, for this reason or that.

But at the core of your argument, if I strip it down you're saying its ok for a black man to vote for a black man just because he's a black man...this one time because you like him.

I can't get around that, I think its a double standard that I'm not accepting of because it means on the flipside to poor white man can vote for McCain because he's white...and that's scary because there are far more poor whites than poor blacks in this country and that means McCain wins...and even scarier that means Palin wins...and I don't want that.

=====================================================================

ok, let me try to clarify further. i'm not ok with people voting for someone based on the color of their skin. i am saying i understand why blacks would vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. i'm saying i'm ok with it happening this time because it helps the guy i want to vote for. i'm not saying i agree with it.

--

What a fuckin load. It's that kind of white guilt horseshit that sustains the welfare state supporting generations of uneducated blacks AND whites with no motivation.

Black leaders are the first ones asking that their people rise above that shit, but when you pigeonhole people and leave them no room for growth and then throw a little money at them to cover all of their basic needs (rent, food stamps, bus fare, etc.) EXCEPT getting high or drunk out of sheer skullfucking boredom you end with the Richmond district or Hunter's Point or Oakland (Oakland's murder rate this year topped 100, by the way).

Why stay in school past age 18? Who needs college or a job when all your shit is free? Except weed. Well, let's rip off that guy's ipod and sell it. Buy some weed. Yeah.

We need to cut back the freebies and give people (black and white freeloaders) a reason to get off of their asses, get jobs, and better themselves and their communities.
====================================
Freeloader, my ass.

I WENT to Jerry Falwell's college, aka Liberty University, and broke bread with him AND all his conservative, rich ass cronies.

I graduated with a BS in Accounting and I'm currently pursuing my MS in Accountancy from Liberty's Distance Learning program. Uneducated? Unaware of what white, baptist, conservatives are teaching/preaching (in the same pulpit)? I think not.

I'm VERY MUCH aware of the Republican way of life. My dad is a staunch Republican, and a rich one, mind you. Myself? I'm well off, although everything I have I've worked for my DAMN self.

I've studied BOTH platforms and I truly believe that Obama can get the job done better, point blank, period.

I agree that people should be more motivated and not be lazy (white AND black) and that welfare should be only for those people who are injured (this is disability, though) or COMPLETELY unable to work for whatever reason. There should be no freeloading and I dont think Obama's platform directly or indirectly supports that notion whatsoever.

That liberals agree with freeloaders is a stupid old argument used by stupid old right wingers, and it is, you guessed it, stupid and old. Get a new fucking argument, for fuck's sake.

additionally what a kid grows up to be....should not be based on the other people like him and what they do. Parents teach kids to be confident and that they can do great things and if they don't then they are a failure as a parent, regardless of their skin color.
=============
BTW, I agree with this sentiment, although I have to side with Hidden in the fact that maybe the REASON they're a failure as a parent is because blacks living in ghettos are conditioned by their environment and other social factors (AND SHEER HISTORY) to believe that they are nothing and will never amount to anything.

When I was growing up, my father told me that as a single parent of three, he looked UP to black women who were single mothers. Because not only as a woman, but as a BLACK woman, they had to survive many treacherous conditions imposed on them by white people and society and other "environmental factors" (to quote Hidden).

To quote Lil Wayne in his "Misunderstood" song off of "Tha Carter III", who was quoting "this white guy" he apparently was listening to one day, "one in every one hundred Americans is locked up; one in every NINE BLACK AMERICANS is locked up" (emphasis added). Oppression is real and CURRENT on the part of black Americans, regardless of whether we see it or want to see it or not.

As a result, blacks have become racist against white people. Who can blame them, really? They have been taught (by us) to believe that we believe that they are inferior, and therefore, we are looked upon as the enemy.

If they want to vote for Obama because he's 1/2 black and that's the SOLE reason they want to vote for him, fine. If KKK members want to vote for McCain simply because he's white, that's fine too. Shit...it's a fucking free country.

I think Hidden's point is that Obama, being a black, American man, understands the oppression imposed on black people. I'm pretty sure that it's safe to say that McCain neither understands nor supports the KKK, but they will vote for him anyway because that's their belief system.

Sweet Jesus. It's 'muhfuckin.'

As a counterpoint I have to say I too am appalled that the McCain camp is going for personal attacks, especially when (in my opinion) there is so much to attack regarding the issues.

I think this is the first election I can remember where I don't hate one or the other running for Prez. I disagree with quite a lot, but there is no hate or loathing.

I think Obama will get in. For all those who vote for him, don't come in here over the next 4 to 8 and bitch when April 15th rolls around.

....

it's pretty funny that Republicans are really relying on the racists and ignorant people so much while Democrats are relying on the educated and informed.

WOW is that wrong. Dems are relying on the same voter block that Jimmy Carter did - lower and lower middle class young people and urban dwellers who get more from the government that they give to it and resent those who have more and therefore are considered "rich". Hardly an educated or in
