I can take comfort in knowing that even though this post might get -2nami'ed off the front page, it will still be indexed by the bigger search engines out there, which is half of the point here.
Most of you know I went to a military school for high school. I spent 5 years at Lyman Ward Military Academy, a 'Southern School of Distinction'. LWMA is still in business, and still accepting new students (or, 'cadets') for enrollment in the 2009-2010 school year.
The problem is, that shit goes on in that school that parents are not made aware of, AND the school attempts to cover up. I have seen these atrocities myself (as well as have written about them here on ubersite) and I have proof.
Hazing. Emotional abuse. Sexual assault. Drug use. Extortion. Organized beatings. Cadets pushed to the point of suicide.
All commonplace.
"But Oathy! What kind of proof? We need something more than first-hand testimonial!"
I hear you. That's why I have gone to the length of ripping the banned youtube videos of Lyman Ward Military Academy cadet hazing into a re-streamable format for easy hosting of Photobucket.
You see, I initially posted these videos on YouTube with hopes that, because it's an 'open forum', others might be educated about what actually goes on there.
But, the school found them and subpoenaed YouTube (I just received an e-mail from the administration this morning). Now the videos are gone.

I would like your HONEST opinion:
If you had a son of middle school age, and you thought that he could benefit from a disciplined, militarily modeled education at a school like Lyman Ward, would you send him there?
It's a yes or no questions. I don't want caveats. WOULD you send him there?
Oh and by the way, the tuition for each cadet is $15,995 for 9 months. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
I appreciate your evaluation. I would love nothing more than to see this post become a TRUE thorn in the side of this goddamned school, knowing what I know about Bart's refusal to pull posts or add them to his robots.txt file for omission from search engine indexes.

I've had a lot of abuse in my life, when I was about six my old man used to stage bare knuckles boxing matches with me at 3:30 in the morning after he came home from the bar, all through grade school and high school I got the shit kicked out of me by assholes, sometimes 4 or 5 guys at a time. But looking back on it, I wouldn't change any of that shit, because it's made me the person I am today. It was pretty bad at the time, and there's no way in hell I would wish that on anyone else, but at the same time, much like Proust, I've come to understand that those years of suffering and violence have been beneficial to my development as a human being, and have shaped me more then the times of tranquility ever could have. I don't regret it.
All that to say that physical abuse and hazing, while not great, are not the worst things in the world. Would I choose to send my kid to that school? No. But I might choose to go, if I thought that enduring that would give me something important.

I just watched the other clips, the "hazing" didn't seemt hat bad.
