The bee struggled across the table, lame, face down and in distress.
Initially that hadn't occurred to me. My first instinct was OMG A BEE, reflex action kicked in and I raised my beck's 730ml, hovering it over the threat and ready to smite.
"wait what's that, an ant. That bee is being ownd by an ant.."
Chris prattled on in the background, mixing with the cacophany of the late afternoon beergarden, his wife kicked me under the table and asked "how about her?", gesturing at the loud girl who she knew I wouldn't like, I smirked but was transfixed on the bee, and the ant dragging him off to dinner at ant town.
I placed the becks back on the table, wiped condensation beads of it and considered the bee's plight.
If I smote the ant the bee's a goner anwway, and if I crush them both everybody loses. Maybe if I just flick them gently with my finger all bets are off between them and it's game on again - that's seem somehow fair, the bee might get a bee ambulance or something..
Chis prattled on, his wife laughed at something Stuart had said, and I leant across the table and flicked the wrestling, intertwined insects with a finger.
They sailed about 15 metres and probably landed in somebody's beer. I blinked and felt awful, but somehow powerful.
Stength is relative ant, and unfair. Just ask the bee.

i'm not sure how. I procrastinated between eek scaredy-pants to being tormented by eco-system encroachment, and in a tiddly, beer-induced state elected - for all intents and purposes, to deliver a self-righteous, holier-than-thou, insect drop ball. So they most likely landed in someones beer and drowned, that person will probably shit bee and ant eggs and the larva that breach the poo will be better for it - stronger and poo hard, if anything I'm a fucking pushing the envelope biologist. I was just telling a story not trying to win a fucking laureate.
