While I'm not incredibly patriotic and all AMERICA KICKS ASS WHOOOOO, I do think that we need to appreciate our Veterans. To be in a war you have to sacrifice a kind of innocence that the rest of us get to enjoy. You lose that innocence knowing a kid or a woman was just killed as part of what you did, or seeing your friends get killed or injured.
Whether you are killed or you make it home, the affects of war are permanent. And even if you dont agree with the sham war we're in, you have to agree that being a soldier is something that deserves respect. So to all the soldiers from America and our allies, thank you, we appreciate you and are proud of you.
And to all the yahoos running around in Iraq in flip flops, and sweat pants with AK 47s, and all the people creating child soldiers in Africa and elsewhere, I don't care for you very and wont think twice if you die.
Today i saw W giving a speech about Veterans and at first i thought how he doesnt like Veterans very much, but then realized he must like them, look how many he's created in the last 5 years.

Yeah I think first Cav came in and replaced the 3rdID, 101st, and 82nd with the 1AD from Germany and parts of 4ID.

No, Iam, I didn't see any sand. We were attached to the 1st Calf back in '02, but they got stand down orders because we blew through the country into Baghdad. We were stuck in Lewis, but they moved us to Umatilla to stare at Igloos for a year.
When we got stand down orders, my original company mobilized to theatre, but I didn't go. I lost a couple of friends, but I've never been privy to how or when -exactly- it happened.

It's still yee-haw flag waving. :(

american are more likely to say stuff like "if it wasn't for US, the world would be speaking german or russian, fuck yeah" than honor the service of the actual veterans.

Or French! Can you imagine speaking French? What a shitty language.
*shifty glance*
*winks seductively*

One of the things i like in Australia is how on Armistice day we show our respect for every soldier that died for their country, regardless of if they are allies or not. Just in my lifetime did we start letting Turks (our enemies at our iconic battle of Gallipoli) march in our veteran's parades, and i thought it was a really nice statement about the universal experience of war.

That's cool.

Has America gotten to that stage yet or is it still yee-haw flagwaving?

Shit, that reminds me I gotta take my cats in for their shots.

When airplane is launched from the deck of a carrier, that's referred to as a "Cat Shot". Another Veteran's Day tie in right there.
