Another armchair politician with a bunch of awful ideas that wouldn't fly on talk radio, much less in the real world? No, thanks! Stabkill and McCallum are enough.

"Welfare" is a substantial expense in this country. But while some wasteful welfare spending does exist, the vast majority of the funds in the welfare system are being spent efficiently. Of the few hundred billion dollars that go to unemployment, most of it is going to people that are not abusing the system. Almost all of it is going to people that are either unable to work or are trying to get work. We could drastically reform welfare and prevent leaches from abusing the system, but such plans to do so would cut into the pockets of people that are already suffering needlessly.

But all of this doesn't even matter when it comes to your proposals, since they don't even really save the country much money. They just kick more dirt on poor people. It's preposterous to suggest that your welfare reforms would even make a tiny dent in the nasty financial mess that has enveloped our country. You, sir, are an idiot.

The economy is fucked for a little while no matter what. If there are going to be any big changes that actually affect our economy, they are not going to have anything to do with welfare reform. Even if we completely eliminated unemployment benefits, welfare, and other government assistance, it would only save us a few hundred billion dollars, while leaving millions without food, shelter, or other basic necessities.

If we balanced our budget and pulled out of Iraq we would save more money than if we got rid of ALL welfare.

Like any surviving institution, it has a solid purpose. And like any surviving institution, it needs constant reformation.

---------

Exactly. There are plenty of holes in the system, because there are holes in all large institutions. But it is relatively efficient when compared to other government institutions that are bleeding more money at a faster rate. There is nothing wrong with welfare reform that trims the fat without sacrificing essential benefits. But converting our welfare system to something like what nitty suggested would not save us much money, and it would infringe on civil liberties and some pretty intimate personal freedoms.

All of our institutions should be constantly reformed to become more efficient. But singling out welfare as the culprit is so dumb.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, I don't disagree... but where are you getting your facts? What "other governemnt institutions" are you comparing Welfare to and how do you know the system is relatively efficient in comparison to it? Do you have facts? Figures? Reports published by reliable third parties? Are you an expert in the field? Do you at least have some conjecture or anecdotal evidence to add to your blanket statements?

The problem I have here is that you're calling Nitty out on partisan hackery, but you're doing exactly the same damned thing. Is getting out of the Iraq war going to magically resolve our economic situation? No. Is welfare reform going to be the magic wand? No. The one thing that is going to at least help going forward is if we can drop the bi-partisan act, sit down as people, and honestly review the fucking facts.

While I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment, you come off as a pompous cocksmith.

The vast majority of welfare funds are being spent efficiently?

Really?

Huh.

From whence are you getting this quasi-superlative data? An independent and reliable third-party source, perhaps? Perhaps you are paraphrasing some manner of socio-economic expert? Or maybe you're just pulling it from your partisan, self-righteous ass.

You see, Opie, I used to operate in the realm of social work. And I can tell you that it is corrupt. And that the numbers are often fudged. And that most of the best and the worst of what they say about it is all true. Like any surviving institution, it has a solid purpose. And like any surviving institution, it needs constant reformation.

Unfortunately, they never get the firm kick in the ass they need because there are people out there stupid and naive enough to assure us that 99.9999% of all social work is being done properly and above the board. In short, shut the fuck up.

Oh, and Jack would be pleased to know that I also have two cats, and they cost me some money every month. But honestly, to save money, I just skimp on cat food and let them go hungry on occasion. And I don't buy them new kitty litter very often. They are ankle-deep in their own shit by the time I change that box!

You know, I should've just admitted this in my post. I'm actually on welfare right now and using food stamps. I use all my food stamps legally. I don't sell them to anybody, and I only use them on food or other essentials. I will try to work when I am able to. I live frugally. Yes, I do get drunk and watch TV sometimes, but that's just how I unwind. It doesn't mean I'm a lowlife slob. TV dinners five nights a week? You betcha. But that's just how I roll. Occasionally I splurge and go out and get a nice steak dinner or something, but that's only once or twice a week.

I smoke cigarettes, too, but that's only a few hundred dollars a month in cost. Can I say that taxpayer dollars are going to pay for my cigarette habit? Yeah. But give me a break!

Life is great right now.

"It won't work!"

Why?

"Because it won't!"

Fine. Reason?

"Because: 1) For anyone not convicted of a crime, requiring a medical procedure is unconstitutional. 2) Three months to get citizenship? Currently it takes years for LEGAL immigrants to get citizenship. Unless you want to amend those laws. 3) Making someone's income/wealth a factor in whether someone is allowed to vote is also unconstitutional. 4) Illegal aliens are already ineligible for federal aid. So, of your five suggestions, one is already federal law, three are not currently legally feasible, and of those two will never be legally feasible."

I'm smarter than you poophead.

You're the champion of the argumentum ad hominem fallacy. You've even ruthlessly attacked people who's taste in music differs from your own.

You will probably never spark any kind of authentic debate here because of this.

Just because you say something is happening doesn't make it true. Reference your research material fuckhead or shut your fucking mouth.

So with this review, you're basically telling me that I'm relying on some kind of political dogma. But your review itself is completely dogmatic. You have no real points or argument. You just have insults and grandstanding. My post isn't complicated or long. You could respond to it very easily. You won't, because you only have idioms and arrogance.

Hey Jack, it's 26 degrees out today and I ran over a cat on the way to work. Now the little bastard has made a mess of everything. He mostly got scraped off the tire on the ashphalt, but I have frozen cat chunks stuck to the brakes and control arms. Do you have nay good tips for cleaning that crap off? I can go outside and take a photo if you want.
