Listen, idiots.

I've not been around this dump since before Thanksgiving.

Adam, Icarus, Hadley and a slough of other microbrained dipshits seem to think I'm behind a bunch of digital assbaggery involving redskies and who knows whatever else.

Here's the bottom line for all my fans out there -

Though I am in most ways superior to each and every last one of you, I do not wish any of you any harm at all and have no interest in defaming you or bringing your livelihood into question by smearing your information on this website.

What would I stand to gain from doing that, anyway? You all know everything about me - my name, employer, residence, etc.

So what the fuck kind of lapse in logic do you think I'm guilty of, if I'm bold enough to pick fights with dickheads who obviously have a sharper sword?

And those of you who think it's even POSSIBLE to relegate an e-mail message from gmail/hotmail/yahoo to a certain IP address or subnet, you're wrong. That information isn't made public without a subpoena (don't you think I've been through this bullshit before, Adam you thickheaded twit?).

If it's not coming from bretd9.at.gmail.com, it's not me. End of story.

So stop with the framing. Sure I'm an iconic asshole but I'm lovable.

And I make a mean friendship bracelet.

I've said this before, I'm training in a 4-year networking program. I wasn't interested in networking until last year, so I don't know these tricks.

My classes this term include basic networking where they cram simple information into our brains, like routed protocols, VLANS, subnetting and classless networks, configuration steps, etc. Next year we learn Linux and Win administration, database management, wireless systems, directory services/architect, and storage area networking. Since it is a 4 year program it has plenty of social science as well.

the last hop on a trace route is what route mapping programs and your website link uses. you will always see public routers, but once you get into more private territory you will never see echos from routers you aren't supposed to know exist.

you are right, ISPs *do* want to keep information private. and they do a great job at it. all i'm saying is that once you reach your technical limitations and hit a wall, it's time to pull out some other tools of the trade. what i mean by that exactly, i will leave up to your imagination.

==================================

Oh give me a hint, can properly configured ACLs snuff your method (if somebody sends you an email from work)?

====================================================================

ISPs already have ACLs in place to stop anyone from being able to map out their network or gain access to their network devices. you're thinking too hard about this. it's much simpler than that.

we're not talking about work email here. we're talking about someone at a residence. also, if someone sends you an email from work, you won't need to examine the header because the company name is in the email address. again, you're making something complicated that doesn't need to be complicated.

;)

People posting from home obviously have zero security towards deflecting probes like the ones you most likely use. On the other hand, if somebody sends you an email from work, the header will be more directly informative... it will have the company name, so very little research is needed.

win/win if I ever heard of one.

You rock

uhhh.... i'm talking about getting right down to a specific location. not a city's metro area, which encompasses millions of people in some cases. that tool will MAYBE tell you what city the person lives in. MAYBE being the key word here. if they live somewhere like the NYC, LA, Chicago area, you won't have much luck finding someone in an area that has millions of people.

nice try though. I'M HIDDEN101, BITCH!

==============================================================================

It's good enough for solving Blues Clues on Uber. Since there are only 21 active posters, I'll be damned if there are two users in the same city.

Interesting you can narrow down the specific person. I figured ISPs might want to keep that private.

it's obvious that oathy has zero knowledge of the internets. i don't think he even understands what a subnet is.

the network bits will tell you which ISP the IP belongs to, but that's about as far as it goes for anyone that isn't a serious h4x0r like me. you can narrow down a location with the host bits and it's actually fairly easy to do within a few minutes.

Why would you even be concerned with someone's subnet? It would be like trying to find someone's home address based purely on what room in the house they're sitting in.

uhhhh.... you ever heard of a mail header, dumbass? contained within one, there's this handy little tag (among others) called the X-Originating-IP tag. guess what it tells you, brain trust? you can actually get quite a bit of information from a mail header, slick. and all emails have them. all of them. there are ways to spoof these sorts of things, but you're not even close to being smart enough to do it.

the other night i dreamt that oathy and i were riding together in a John Deere combine. we were arguing about the proper way to harvest whatever crop was in the ground that we were trying to collect. finally he got so mad that he refused to speak anymore, crossed his arms, and held his breath until he turned blue and passed out.
