The following is a compendium updating my previous review of webcomics. Many old classics are there, complete with the original description though a few have been updated, and the original list has been pruned of some of the more redundant (i.e. dead) comics. Again, if you know of any webcomics which are worth reading and which are not covered here, please share.
OLDER COMICS FROM THE LAST POST:
http://www.smbc-comics.com/
Still going strong, Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal delivers one to four panel shorts for cheap and quick fun. Recurring themes of satirical misogyny and failure.
http://www.licd.com/
Least I Could Do. A comic about a sexually promiscuous young man called Rayne Summers who has wacky adventures with his long suffering friends. This popular, long running comic has been through several incarnations. There is less sex, more 'wackiness' and product placement than ever before, but it is still funny.
http://www.questionablecontent.net/
Questionable Content. This one is written by 'indie' people about 'indie' people. The characters are, as a consequence, really rather loathsome but in spite of this the comic delivers some reasonable humour.
http://www.thenoobcomic.com/
The Noob. Ahh, The Noob. Possibly one of my favourite strips, this irreverent look at the MMORPG (massively multi-player online role playing game, such as World of Warcraft) phenomenon is packed full of homage's. The story arc paying respect to The Warriors may be one of the greatest story arcs of all time.
http://www.somethingpositive.net/
Something Positive. A semi-autobiographical comic about a cynical and depressed man, who wisecracks through the increasingly lame story arcs. If one can get past the risible plot and offensively obnoxious characters, there is some good humour to be mined here.
http://www.sluggy.com/
Sluggy Freelance. The archive is so big that reading it could be a punishment for children. It's average, updates regularly and can surprise with a sudden burst of quality.
http://catandgirl.com/index.php
Cat and Girl. A very pretentious webcomic about a girl and the anthromorphic cat she lives with. Jokes range from indie 'culture' to intellectual and cult icons. Makes use of pathos a lot, as well as satire and irony. I love it dearly, but then I am very pretentious.
http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php
Scary go Round. This webcomic is English and as such incredibly funny. Every single strip, from first to last, is charmingly mirthful. Managing to be both classy and original with updates as regular as clockwork. Magnificent.
http://overcompensating.com/ - This link is for both Overcompensating and WIGU.
WIGU (When I Grow Up). A zany story about a young boy and his wack adventures. As usual, the plot and characters is merely a vehicle for the author's considerable wit. I regard this comic as the American Scary Go Round as the quality of humour is on a par with it. Indeed, both Jeffrey Rowland and John Allison are good friends and freely admit to influencing one another's work.
Overcompensating. Jeffrey Rowlands diary comic. Good jokes, well worth a look.
http://www.qwantz.com/
Dinosaur Comics. The same panel every week, with different words. A unique webcomic that is both extremely funny and informative without being pretentious or repetitive. Truly, truly splendid. Apart from when it's really boring.
http://www.drmcninja.com/
Dr McNinja. Dude, seriously. How can you NOT want to read it? It's called Dr Mcninja for heavens sake. Seriously though, the artwork is top notch, the characters infinitely lovable and the humour of consistently high grade. It even updates regularly.
http://www.shortpacked.com/index.html
Shortpacked. A comic about toys. It's funny. No, really, it is. A tongue in cheek look at the obsessive hobby of toy collecting and the people who do it.
http://www.whiteninjacomics.com/
White Ninja Comics. A strip of absurdist humour. I sometimes worry it tries too hard, but it's generally very good. Now syndicated on Cracked.com.
http://www.robandelliot.cycomics.com/
Rob and Elliot. A light hearted comic about two friends. The updates have become sporadic, but increased in pace this year. The artwork has changed but there is little passion in the comic. I expect this will stop updating soon, but there is some good stuff in the archive.
http://www.digitalpimponline.com/strips.php?title=movie
Joe Loves Crappy Movies. Strip about a larger than life caricature of the author that passes commentary on movies, actors and other elements of movies. Very, very funny indeed. Also there are links to some other comics, the best of which is Matriculated Wednesdays which is also partially done by Joseph Dunn.
http://www.partiallyclips.com/
Partially Clips. Clip art strip with commentary over the top. Simple, but effective humour is a plus for this strip. Terribly designed website, and irregular updates let it down though.
http://www.butternutsquash.net/
Butternutsquash. I rarely level this sort of accusation at people providing free stuff, but the artists behind this comic are lazy. They should either do the damned comic or stop pretending to be back from hiatus and fuck off. My inarticulate rage from their inability to update stems from the fact that these Canadians are quite funny, in spite of their racial handicap, and have created some appealing characters. *update* The Canadians are back from hiatus but are no longer funny. Only read this if you are exceptionally bored.
http://recklessyouth.comicgen.com/
Reckless Youth. Essentially a story about a young loser who is, apparently, the son of God and the second coming. He battles demons, abuses his position and is a lovable idiot. Generally quite good (note the omission of the word 'very'), but irregular updates let it down. Incidentally, the other characters in the story steal the show, in spite of being poorly introduced so you don't really know who anyone ever really is. I dunno, there's a lot wrong with this comic but there's a lot right with it as well.
http://edgeknight.comicgen.com/
Edge the Devilhunter. A Manga with very good artwork that deals with issues of race and socialism. There are jokes but generally the pitch is quite dark. This is one of the few comics that includes any reference to rape and some panels are rather NSFW. Whilst this comic can be rather trite, George W Bush depicted as a giant cock-shaped demon, it's defiantly well worth a look. *update* The creator has decided to take the comic in a more light-hearted direction which eschews references to rape, social oppression and subversion in favour of cutesy artwork. Give it a few more months, see if they sort it out and then abandon.
http://www.go-girly.com/
Girly. Seen Cartoon Network recently? Well this is similar in many ways to the fare they put out today, only with Lesbians and stuff. I'm not really selling this one, am I? It's good, trust.
http://www.darkencomic.com/
Darken. Fantasy webcomic. Pretty average. Swords and sorcery and so on. Regular updates.
http://www.marilith.com/index.php
Marilith. A stylish webcomic about a curvaceous lady assassin. Very rare updates as the artist is probably spanking off to his own material in his mum's basement. He does draw a good shootout though.
http://www.penny-arcade.com/
Penny Arcade. A gamer webcomic. At it's inception it was a pile of wank and remained so for many years. Around 2006 it started to raise it's game and finally became the indominatable franchise it is today. The current output is quite funny.
http://www.pholph.com/
Jack. Now this is an unusual webcomic for many reasons. Firstly I must warn you that it is a furry webcomic and its explicit content is NSFW. It is about the afterlife; heaven, hell and purgatory. Jack, whom the comic is titled on, is the grim reaper and the embodiment of the sin of wrath. Many story arcs are his morose dealings with the recently deceased, many more are with the not so recently deceased in hell and some do not feature him at all. I must stress that in spite of the authors... funny habits, that this comic is extremely good. It is thought provoking and the jokes, when the comic is being comic, are funny. The updates are as regular as clockwork and there is a very, very large archive of existing material that is of high quality.
http://www.pandaxpress.com/
Panda Express. A cute webcomic about a robotic panda, an OTT British secret agent and a disco samurai. Original stories and very professional artwork. A small archive and a infrequent updates make this a snack sized experience, but it's worth it.
http://www.multiplexcomic.com/
Mutliplex. Yet another webcomic dealing with movies. Honestly it's rather tragic that these funny people can find no better inspiration for their art than the blasé pop culture institutions of cinema. That aside, this is a pleasant comic about staff at a movie theatre. Paradoxically the content suggests the author is highly anally retentative regarding 'great cinema' (don't worry, he's funny and not a cock. It's just reminiscent of Shortpacked in its obsessive attention to trivia), and yet at the same time the updates are sporadic. One can only wonder at the poor, monstrously pathetic creature that is both shackled by such high strung obsession and yet consumed with apathy. His psyche must be a cathedral of self loathing. Anyway, it's a good comic with nice characters and fun jokes. The website design is shit.
http://www.wanderingones.com/
Wandering Ones. If you like Scouts, Ray Mears and those old comics with heroic allied forces fighting the hated, "Achtung!" shouting, Nazis then this is for you. It's set in the future with Native American/special forces tribes fighting neo-Nazi imperialists. Need I say more?
http://www.sorethumbsonline.com/
Sore Thumbs. Absurd webcomic about games and politics. Differs from the vast horde of Penny Arcade clones by being well drawn, original and having variety. Just as well, because Penny Arcade was shite enough to begin with. This is a genuinely funny, unpretentious and charming comic with regular updates and an extensive archive.
http://goblinscomic.com/
Goblins. A D&D webcomic that looks at life through the eyes of the often put upon goblin. Good artwork, involving storyline and regular updates are distinctive positives, however there is constant reference made to Dungeons and Dragons rules which will provide an obstacle to those who know nothing about the hobby. The characters literally talk about difficulty scores and damage rolls so if you have issues with suspending your disbelief I recommend you avoid this comic. If you are comfortable with these concepts you will find here a very rewarding and appealing story.
http://www.realmofatland.com/
Realm of Atland (not Realm o' Fatland, sadly). A fantasy webcomic, revolving around epic adventurers it is nevertheless told with its tongue firmly in cheek. Much like the next comic:
http://www.lfgcomic.com/
Looking for Group. This webcomic is identical to Atland in almost every way. The only notable difference is that LFG is very much inspired by World of Warcraft. The jokes are the important thing though and both Atland and LFG deliver moderate to chortle-worthy humor.
http://www.megatokyo.com/
Mega Tokyo. An American Manga, set in a fictitious, OTT Tokyo. The comic revolves around Piro, an emotionally crippled otaku nerd who is based on the author, and Largo, another emotional cripple who is obsessed with "l33t" culture and who is based on the author's best mate. The comic is very well drawn and the story is a heart-warming tale of love and romance in a city symbolic of each characters obsessive hobbies, tendencies and views of the world.
http://www.afterstrife.com/
Afterstrife. The work of Ali Graham. Don't read it, it's rubbish.
http://outtherecomic.com/
Out There. A webcomic about a woman and the hitch-hiker she picks up. It's all quite innocent and is a lighthearted look at men, women and the relationships they have.
http://www.hyperdeathbabies.com/
Hyper Death Babies. A rather vulgar strip that appeals to my own vulgar tastes and will, no doubt, appeal to the vulgar of Ubersite as well.
http://www.thinkin-lincoln.com/
Thinkin' Lincoln. Similar in many ways to Dinosaur Comics, this strip does feature differing stuff in the panels. The jokes are top drawer stuff including great moments like a fight between Edison and Tesla, Darwin's beard with a beard with a beard entry in a beard contest and the ever mirthful banter between Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Many references to history, so you get to learn whilst you laugh.
NEW SHIT:
http://www.soulgeek.com/comics/jl/
Jump Leads. A sort of Red Dwarf/Sliders clone about two extra dimensional travellers. There's a sarky one and another one. It's still trying to find it's feet but good artwork and some robust storylines make me optimistic about it's future.
http://www.tweep.com/comic/
Tweep. A comic which bears a remarkable similarity to Questionable Content, but with a slightly different cultural approach. Basic sit-com set up. Average humour.
http://anderslovesmaria.reneengstrom.com/
Anders Loves Maria. Swedish webcomic, the protagonist is Anders; a self obsessed prick who is a an artist, celebrity and has an enormous penis. Maria is his pregnant girlfriend. Farcical adventures follow. Terrific.
http://www.drunkduck.com/Bad_Guy_High/
Bad Guy High. Outstanding superhero based webcomic. Both a tremendous parody and tribute to the heroes we're all (probably) familiar with. Usually updates promptly but occasionally has bouts of not updating as the author is a bit of a mess.
http://www.south20th.com/index.php
Bear & Kitten. An excellent piece of work which is extremely funny. The artist is too busy being screwed by her husband to update though.
http://betweenfailures.com/
Between Failures. A comic about a generic DVD/bookstore/something shop. It's still sort of gathering up steam but it's not too bad.
http://www.blipcomic.com/
Blip. Some convoluted story about celestial destiny or something. Not as good as the creator thinks it is. Not very funny and distinctly below average, but hey; the pussy is free but the crack costs money so what are you gonna do?
http://www.explosm.net/
Explosm. A small group of artists draw simple, unconnected, comics about a range of deplorable jokes. Good stuff.
http://www.davidcsimon.com/crimsondark/
Crimson Dark. Story about a bunch of privateers in space. Reminiscent of Firefly, but not as well written. Still good though; compelling characters and an intriguing storyline. Website is very poorly designed though.
http://www.cad-comic.com/comic.php
Ctrl+Alt+Delete. A gaming webcomic with a plot. Average stuff. S'alright. Updates regularly.
http://www.dominic-deegan.com/
Dominic Deegan - Oracle for Hire. This comic extraordinarily ghey. The themes, 'morals', characters, even the environments and plotlines are liberally soaked in Serious Gheyness. Still, it's consistent. Updates daily and features some decent artwork.
http://www.everydaydecay.com//index.php
Everyday Decay. Zombie webcomic looking at the domestic situation in a post pandemic scene. Just getting started but already it seems like the author has overpowered his protagonists. Still, it has potential.
http://flakypastry.runningwithpencils.com/index.php
Flaky Pastry. Comic strip about generic intellectual, generic 'chaotic neutral' character (featuring generic creativity/inventiveness) and generic tough woman. Remarkably generic plotlines take place in an inventive fantasy setting.
http://www.giantitp.com/index.html
Hosts 2 webcomics:
Order of the Stick: Insanely funny D&D based webcomic. Good story, solid humour, splendid characters and doesn't take itself at all seriously. Excellent.
Erfworld: A bit tricky to get your head around; but it is fundamentally a gaming webcomic about the weird world of freeform gaming. A fat bloke is sucked into a strange world which was almost created by him. He learns the rules and leads his side to victory, maybe? Still a bit odd. Made me think of that old cartoon about the bloke who is sucked into his Nintendo. Quite good.
http://herman.manateepower.com/
Herman the Manatee Gets Hit by a Boat. Heh, terrific.
http://strangesomeone.com/
Strange Someone. A bit new, don't yet know much about it. Reads like an American trying to write like Dylan Moran. Maybe it will get better somehow?
http://indavo.comicgenesis.com/
Indavo. Retro style comic about a wanderer from an advanced civilisation wandering around space solving problems and getting into mischief. Sort of like Dr. Who. The archive goes on for ages and if you can stomach the first few strips then you'll probably like it.
http://www.lackadaisycats.com/
Lackadaisy. Furry webcomic about the 1920s. Great artwork, great characters, excellent story. The only let downs are the updates, which are very sporadic, and the fact it's about anthromorphic cats.
http://www.lildepressedboy.com/
Lil Depressed Boy. A new webcomic that I've been observing. It's about, surprise, surprise, a depressed boy; rendered in a sack dummy style reminiscent of the dude who did that music video with the puppet and the car crash and the indie band a few years ago. Anyway, maybe it will be good?
http://www.misfile.com/
Misfile. Webcomic about transexualism for benders. Features cars, racing, teenage girls and angels. All a bit daft really.
http://nedroid.com/
Nedroid. Ah, Nedroid. One of the funniest, most charming, intelligent, brilliant, webcomics on the net. Considered to be one of the 'elite' webcomics, up there with XKCD, A Softer World, Dresden Codak and A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irrevocable. I cannot recommend this webcomic highly enough. Men should send Anthony Clark money, women should offer to host his genetic material.
http://www.noneedforbushido.com/
No Need for Bushido. Funny comic about Samurai. Good jokes and well put together, if generic, characters make for a fun read even though the plot is convoluted and boring. Excellent.
http://nobodyscores.loosenutstudio.com/
Nobody Scores. Well written, regular updates, high quality humour and consistency make this a thumping good read.
http://www.webcomicsnation.com/tylerpage/nb/series.php
Nothing Better. Generic 'university' webcomic. Deals with themes such as faith and that whole "finding yourself" thing. It's mostly awful, but there are some good moments.
http://www.mitchclem.com/mystupidlife/
My Stupid Life. Auto-biographical webcomic from Mitch Clem, author of Nothing Nice to Say, which lies to present Mitch as a good, witty, person. Seriously though it is quite funny.
http://www.octopuspie.com/
Octopus Pie. Good webcomic featuring strong jokes and interesting characters. Set in New York City (if I remember rightly), it follows the story of a disgruntled young woman and her peers through various adventures and situations. Very good and very human.
http://www.pennyandaggie.com/index.php
Penny and Aggie. Teen comic about a bunch of retards undergoing youth drama. Tripe, but hey, I watched That 70s Show so what the fuck, eh?
http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com/index.php
Pictures for Sad Children. Decent webcomic, following the story of Paul and Gary. Gary is a ghost. Paul isn't. Good jokes, depressing themes, strong storyline and no-nonsense artwork.
http://www.drunkduck.com/Purgatory/
Purgatory. 3D Webcomic about a prison colony, a group of mercenaries, an intergalactic empire and a conspiracy. A good plot and decent characters make this a lot better than it sounds.
http://www.junglestudio.com/roza/
Roza. Story about a young woman with a strange curse. An interesting and original story, for a webcomic.
http://www.drunkduck.com/Shades/
Shades. Superhero webcomic about former British superheroes being raised from their retirement to train new guys and fight old foes. Interesting stuff.
http://www.shanime.com/
The Peons. Odd webcomic about two underlings of the king of Antarctica. Also features lots of penguins. Very random and quite humorous.
http://www.moderntales.com/comics/shilongpang.php
Shi Long Pang. Webcomic about a Shaolin monk during the gunpowder age. Very interesting, great story, good artwork. Outstanding webcomic.
http://sorcery101.net/
Sorcery 101. Alright, so, this another fucking 'magic' webcomic. The website is atrociously designed and the content is a bit sub par. The story is well put together though, relatively speaking, but it seems like the author re-wrote the story long ago and has skipped out the beginning. It's okay I guess, a bit meandering and silly but it's not so bad really.
http://subculturecomic.com/wp/
Subculture. Generic 'comic nerds' webcomic. A heavily stuffed genre with so many dead comics and shite comics that I've only really listed this one. It's okay, quite funny sometimes.
http://nightgig.com/sweatshop/
The Errant Apprentice. Story about a knight who rides on a scooter and has a love interest and a journalist with him. Set in the 60's after more fucking magic is raised to launch some half-baked excuse for a plot... what is it with all the fucking magic in these stories? Whatever happened to just stabbing your problems in the face with a pen? Anyway, this is pretty good.
http://www.webcomicsnation.com/spike/Templar/series.php
Templar Arizona. Now THIS is a fucking comic. No hackneyed reliance on the cultural phenomenon of America losing it's faith or pop culture. No, this is all about a place called Templar Arizona where strange bohemian counter-cultural ideals are serious things. Read it, it's good.
http://horribleville.com/
Horribleville. Strangely obscene introspective webcomic that the creator uses to try to rationalise his own intense apathy and low self-esteem. Quite funny though.
http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/
The Dreamland Chronicles. Alright. So, there's this dude and he dreams and when he dreams he goes to a magical fucking land. He used to go there as a boy but, in a not unobvious Narnia rip off move, he can't remember it now that he's older. Shit ensues, not much hilarity though. It's colourful and an interesting bit of work. Updates regularly like clockwork, clearly has a thoroughly written idea.
http://www.lorestrome.com/index.htm
The Realm of Aegis. Classic age style fantasy romp featuring a kingdom of water and a kingdom of fire. It's actually a lot better than it sounds. Really good artwork, interesting characters and compelling plot.
http://www.thezombiehunters.com/index.php
The Zombie Hunters. Zombie themed webcomic. A small island of survivors sends infected but not yet dead scavengers into the ruins of civilisation for cans of beans and tampons.
http://truckbearingkibble.com/
Truck Bearing Kibble. Similar in many ways to SMBC. Just as funny, when it updates.
http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/
Thunderstruck. A fantasy/superhero webcomic. Centred around two sisters with strange abilities and an even more improbable past, the story takes in some intriguing elements. A good read.
http://www.wayfarersmoon.com/
Wayfarers Moon. Yet another fantasy webcomic with magic and shit. Good swashbuckling though.
http://wondermark.com/
Wondermark. Clip art style comic. Old Victorian style art repurposed to deliver all manner of satirical jokes. Amusing.
http://www.plasticfarm.com/
Plastic Farm. Oh boy, this is a doozy. A weirdly surreal webcomic built on the query of what is and is not real. Excellent writing, amazing artwork and fantastic characters. A real gem.
http://xkcd.com/
XKCD. A stick figure webcomic. Humorous website concerned with mathematics, technology, love and life. Superlative work and one of the finer comics out there.
http://www.asofterworld.com/
A Softer World. One of the classics. Photographs with words by Joey Corneau over them, a simple idea that is breathtakingly awesome. Excellent fun. Also of note is Overqualified, Joey's tongue in cheek job applications.
http://dresdencodak.com/
Dresden Codak. A more cerebral webcomic. Philosophy, physics and mathematics provide a backdrop for jaw dropping artwork and enchanting characters. The jokes are so funny that you may need surgery afterwards. If I gave ratings to these things then this would be 10 out of 10.
http://achewood.com/
Achewood. One of the greatest webcomics out there. Aside from the preoccupation with food and drink, this comic is astonishingly brilliant in every way. Stunningly hilarious and a monstrous archive will provide an extreme amount of mirth.
Welp, that's it for 2008. I'll revisit the listing next year for more intriguing webcomics. Again, if you have any suggestions that I missed then please let me know.

'Nerd' is still out there. You may think that the late nineties killed it off with your 'dork' and such. But it's still there. Biding it's time....

I wouldn't call myself a nerd. Nerd is really an 80's term for a geeky dork and I'm not really very geeky on account of my low education and inability to think without moving my lips.
I could probably qualify for dork status, but that isn't anything to be proud of. That'd be like being proud of having asthma.

This was nerdy. Extremely nerdy. nerdy in the way that I have this image in my head that when you meet people you give them the vulcan sign and tell them to live long and prosper.
Which is actually pretty cool. (In my head)

I've only skimmed this so far, but I'm assuming it's going to be a valuable resource for squelching boredom. Also, I love thinkin-lincoln, and also this:
http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/page/58
The only annoying thing about that site is that they don't have a first and last page button, only a newer and older comics button. The first page has been in the 50's for a while now, though, so typing /page/fifty-something (or the ever elusive sixty-something of the future) at the end of the url isn't all that difficult.

Good work, Bertram.
The author of SMBC also does http://www.captainexcelsior.com/ which has a plot and is moderately humourous, but can be a tad slow moving. I only check it every month or so. Other than the one you've got a pretty comprehensive list here and I would be quite perturbed to learn you check all of these daily, which I assume is not the case.
