In this season of giving and thinking of others while in the throes of a recession/depression, I am interested to know how you all did wrt the giftie giein'.
I bought new bicycles and skateboards for my kids and a nice set of pearl earrings for my wife. <insert pearl necklace joke here> My kids got me a bunch of sheet music for my electronic keyboard and my wife got me a Craftsman battery drill kit and workbench that cost way too damn much.
So... what did you give/get?

I found this Christmas to be something of a turning point for me (at the age of 33, incidentally). I used to look forward to getting presents, but now I mainly look forward to giving them, as is the man's way. My haul this year was rubbish, what with my mum's poor taste and my student girlfriend's poor bank balance, but it was still the best Christmas ever. I swear my girlfriend almost climaxed as she unwrapped this expensive and rather beautiful handbag that I got her, and I just felt so happy to see her so happy, and also rather pleased with myself for totally nailing her gifts this year. This kind of thing goes a long way, and I really need some brownie points seeing as I've been beating the shit out of her all year.
I think she's forgiven me though.

My favourite incoming gift has to be my Dancing Mogwai. Wanted a real one though. Also loved my beginners Japanese book.
I gave my dad a fishing game for his Wii, he loves it.
I gave my Girlfriend a ring - hence my poorness till February.
My sister got a bottle of Vodka, my mum a Filofax (pink).

i did not give or receive anything and i'm glad my family finally figured out not to get me anything. christmas annoys me but i'm happy i get off work for it. i spent christmas on the beach last year to get away, but i stuck around this year and it was actually a decent holiday for once.

Would YOU shoot an evil stink-eye to a person who is wearing a tri-cornered hat, holding a beer stein and within operating proximity of a radial arm saw? I'll have to send you a pic. I look more like Adam Ant now :(

I just got a new camera that I've been taking millions of pictures with lately. Coincidentally, if everything works out (it probably won't), the camera will play a big part in my next series of posts

a little bit, skrap. i'm not as good as i'd like to be, mostly due to lack of practice, but i've been fiddling... err, banjoing?... around again and remembering what fun it can be.
right now i'm rebuilding an old clawhammer/openback that my great-grandfather used to own to use as my camping/porch/don't care if it gets a little beat up machine. this is NOT as intimidating a project as a guitar by any means. calling it a machine is not far from the truth. a flathead screwdriver and an adjustable wrench and you're good to go. but it makes me happy.
i have a resonator as well, not an expensive thing, but one that sound pretty good for what i'm doing with it.

This is perhaps the deepest piece you've written. There's just not a lot of hand holding, is all.
Every word should be approached as if it was a twenty ton weight. Heavy, man. Heavy.

Gave tack shop gift cert and equestrian-themed jewelry and clothing, CDs, a guitar, books, board games, Gap and Hot Topic gift cards (nieces, sheesh), Swiss army knife, Scotch whiskey, t-shirts, cooking gadgets.
Got guitar strings, DVDs, and a band-autographed 1975 GD "Blues for Allah" record in a display frame. BfA is my favorite GD studio album. Cool as hell.
My present to me was a barely-functioning 1964 or 65 Gibson Falcon guitar amplifier and a downloaded wiring diagram. I'm worth it.
