ADD: Not competing, but these bring out good short writing. So why not?

I came upon the City in a dream, fluttering down out of the clouds of myth. I felt as if a bird in a storm-tossed sky. Alighting in a barren garden, I grew aware of myself amid the warm and twinkling glow of lights in the windows of homes, palaces, and streetlamps.
Kitab al-Buldan they called me, a traveller from the Lands of Light, accepted amongst these whisper-quiet people. One who has seen all the lands there are to see. They dressed in brilliant colors, fabrics warm and exotic from distant lands beyond the Sunset.
Bells toll from the Temple, calling this accursed people to worship, to pray for mercy.
To pray that Time starts again.
Because they are trapped here, the sun no longer rises or sets. Far off, across the starlit fastness of the mountains, lies the Sunset land. A place where a glowering redness peeks above the far horizon. The white ships that set sail into adventure, seeking Light, never return.
So this people lives, their city crowned with a shining vault of stars, but they do not value it.
A cold wind blows constantly, moaning through the alleys empty of cats, swirling long-dead leaves in arcane patterns. Here, even the air wishes to escape the accursed city, bereft of the joys it once had.
My eyes grew heavy again, pulling me back to sleep. My last sight of the City was the sibilant shadow-children, ghost white faces upturned to watch me go; like broken reflections of the uncaring moon.
